MVP Joyce Kennerson heads to NCAA Tournament proving #sizedoesntmatter

I lost a friend of over 40 years and was somewhat out of the loop last weekend however I knew TSU had won the SWAC Tournament but I didn't realize the specifics until speaking with Lady Houston Phenoms head coach and director Derrick Johnson on the performance of former of one of his former players,  GPR Under The Radar Joyce Kennerson. Kennerson was simply amazing when I first saw her, I guess going into her sophomore season at Port Arthur Memorial, and this young lady showed me even then that she had the heart, desire and talent to not only play at the next level but play D1 basketball at the next level and play a major role on her team at that level, because when you have the attributes she possessed at an early age, it all ties in with "the game starts at the one"

Coach DJ and SWAC Tourney MVP Joyce Kennerson

Several college coaches  mentioned size as a factor on why they weren't recruiting her along the way or what someone else said she couldn't do however my response has and always will be is that  I don't really care what others say or think regarding an evaluation of a player I'm telling you about simply because most of these kids, especially in the Houston area, have been seen by me countless times and I look for two things, progression over the years as well as upside and Kennerson kept working on whatever she needed to add to her game and her desire to be the best she could be and prove naysayers wrong told me that she wasn't done and helping lead her team to the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore is huge no matter how you wanna spin it.

She averaged 18 ppg during the season and over 25 ppg in the SWAC Tournament on her way to winning the tourney MVP and as I look back at some of the articles I wrote on her along the way, I truly get misty eyed at her just simply always getting the job done no matter what and on top of that, she still has a couple of more seasons left, so one more time, a special S/O to this outstanding young lady who happens to be a very talented basketball player and congratulations Joyce, I'm certainly proud of you, not only for what you've done on the court but for also making me look like a genius

Kennerson and Harris blowing up at next level #GPRUnderTheRadar no more

There are few things more pleasurable to me than saying I told you so, especially in this mess of girl's basketball and some may not like what I say or write, it doesn't matter because I will always say what I think regardless of who likes it and what Joyce Kennerson ( Texas Southern)  and Jasmyne Harris (U of H) are doing in college has me beaming from ear to ear and for a couple of kids who were basically " Under The Radar" nationally,  well not mine because I'd been talking about them before they were even high school stars, make no mistakes I'm a GENIUS at spotting talent early and the hundreds of players I've been right about, including my own daughter .......

Last season was simply a blast for Kennerson as she helped lead TSU to the NCAA Tournament going completely off  winning MVP honors and I recall a college coach saying she was too small to play for them, my response was SIZE DON'T MATTER if you can play but ironically that same coach called me a week later saying "someone" had referred another PG and I told him, that girl is smaller than Joyce, just lose my number coach, he also lost his job based on the other kid but anyway I respect others opinions but I know what I'm talking about and Kennerson is leading the nation in scoring NCAA scoring leaders read more

What can I say about Jasmyne Harris as she has simply outdone herself for the Cougars. The straw that stirs the drink, the glue that holds it together, the player I called a "can't miss" is on target and what she's doing on center stage was already predetermined a long time ago. Smooth as silk, size and athleticism yet relatively unknown, that is unless you grasped what I had been saying years ago, was just named ESPN Player Of The Week and you know it's amazing how time has flown and I've watched the game change right before my eyes, so much nonsense popping up year after year but always remember, it's not what you do, it's who you do it against as well as who's watching you do it and hopefully they know what they're looking at  ESPN article

#UnderTheRadar Joyce Kennerson receives another offer

I've always enjoyed watching Joyce Kennerson and even though I can't take credit for saying I knew she was legit before high school, well that's only because I hadn't seen her but the Port Arthur Memorial senior has simply been amazing and even more so this season as I've caught several of her breathtaking performances. Since the Aldine Tournament, she has been scoring over 20 ppg and probably around 30 in at least 10 games not to mention the numerous or close to triple doubles she's had as well as being one of the states top long ball shooters

Kennerson has offers on the table and she just received another from North Texas last night

"UNTRecruitingNewz @UNTSportsNewz · 3h3 hours ago

Kennerson explodes in Port Arthur Memorial win #AldineTournament

Joyce Kennerson opened up the game of the day between Port Arthur Memorial and Clear Springs with a three and throughout the evening she did a little bit of everything. That drive through rain and traffic from Deer Park had me drowsy but talk about a double dose of B-12, this game had it. One thing I know about Clear Springs is that they are capable of making runs and and won't quit but PAM was a little too much. Despite Kennerson dropping five threes, four from bta and an and one, Jakeria Ford took over in the second half and watching these two on a couple of plays where Kennerson made no looks was definitely an adrenaline boost. Here's the good news, the Aldine Bracket has already been updated and you can see it under that link below

'15 Kennerson's numbers don't lie #UnderTheRadar

I've had a chance to watch some talented players come through the area and I'm talking about players that were among the best at every position so believe me, I know where the bar has been set. Joyce Kennerson has shown me something new every year and her explosiveness has simply gone through the roof and I'm talking about both ends. Kennerson has been averaging in the high twenties since December with numerous triple doubles or close to them in fact she's been putting up more points than minutes played in some of her district games

Speaking of district, her Port Arthur Memorial team faces North Shore in their second district match-up, the Mustangs won the first one easily however Kennerson scored 18 in that loss. The unsigned senior will always be ready and play through whatever, no matter if they're 20 up or 20 down, she's going to bring it

Under The Radar Kennerson still on fire after MVP performance

Two things before I through this blow ya mind numbers at you, size don't matter with a hashtag and it's not what you do, it's who you do it against so with that being said, the electrifying senior from Port Arthur Memorial, Joyce Kennerson, went on an absolute tear this past weekend as she was one steal shy of averaging a triple double , 28 ppg, 14 apg and 9.7 spg and for her efforts, she was named MVP YMBL Tournament

Kennerson scored last night i Port Arthur Memorial's loss to Westside, another Top 20 battle and here is the  BOX

Unsigned Kennerson 12Star Athlete Of The Week

I know I just did something on Port Arthur Memorial's Joyce Kennerson
@shegetsbuckets_  but here you get to see a little bit more of what she can do on the court and how she breaks it down to you off the court but peep this on what Coach Henry said "she has quickness out of this world and it cause a lot of problems for opposing teams" and he's on the money because she certainly has been creating problems for defenders since the first time I saw her

Seeing is believing and Kennerson's "go hard or go home" comment shows you her mentality and when I do my #sizedontmatter Hall Of Fame list, she'll definitely be on it and with a smile

Carter and Kennerson #sizedontmatter #UnderTheRadar

Kryshona Carter

Kryshona Carter and Joyce Kennerson are two of the best unsigned guards in the state, they've proved it both on the club circuit playing against some of the top players in the country and in high school as both are making their presence felt. Carter plays for Cedar Ridge, one of the states top teams and she simply went off at the Texas Invitational a couple of weeks ago putting up numbers galore and averaging double digits for the tournament

Kennerson is the show stealing point guard for Port Arthur Memorial, one of the areas top squads and I had a chance to catch her numerous times in the Aldine Invitational where she simply went off. One game she drops 5 of or 6 six threes finishing with over 30, another double digits in both points and assists and then another double-double of points and steals

Both of these talented young ladies have been added to the GPR 2015 Under The Radar list, more on them will be coming including video

Cy Fair Invitational added to events

Joyce Kennerson stepped up to the plate over the summer and although I spelled her name incorrectly numerous, you can always count on me spelling it correctly at least once. Kennerson explodes off the dribble just like she did at the John Lucas Camp and I'll be seeing her, along with BCS bound Jasmine Butler and Brenisha Coleman who at 6'2, won't be hiding much longer at the Last Call

The 2015 GPR Texas Super 60 trio will also be some of the players I'll be looking to see how much they improved next year at the Cy Fair Invitational, April 19-20

Remember to ALWAYS check the EVENTS tab

Kennerson and Ford won't have you bored at GHI

Joyce Kennerson and Jakeira Ford form quite a duo for Port Arthur Memorial and guess what, they will be at Jack Yates next weekend at the inaugural Greater Houston Invitational. Both are coming off of super summers and solid performances at The Last Run, in fact Ford made a tipster

Clear Springs vs Port Arthur Memorial round 2

I've always been partial to smaller guards simple because #sizedontmatter baby and Joyce Kennerson (TSU commit) leaves here knowing that she is in the GPR SDM Hall of Fame. Kennerson has been a tear since the Aldine Tournament and she dropping threes from everywhere against Port Arthur Memorial helped them beat Clear Springs in the opening round in one of the best games of the season and I am TRULY sorry I won't see this one

Jakeria Ford took over in the second half but Clear Springs has always brought heat and no matter what the temperature is on the outside Friday night at Channelview HS at 6pm, Tasharian Robinson, Sierra Cheatham and crew will be coming at yall

GPR Texas 2015 being updated

The John Lucas 40/40 wrap is complete but I'm still on the #grind doing what I do. I'm in the process of doing more reevaluations on the 2015 players, Joyce Kennerson and Brenisha Coleman definitely continue to improve since watching them earlier in the club season and I can't wait to see them during the season, but they aren't the only ones as we're looking at another great class of solid players throughout the state

Remember I don't care about who wins or loses, I watch a lot of basketball, wait I also watch a lot of bad basketball to find talented players so just because your daughter scores 20 plus or your team beats some by 50, ALWAYS remember this, "it's not what you do, it's who you do it against" because I'm about to go drop 30 on someone and..........., nm

Cy Fair Nike 15U have a plenty that are about to pop on the scene

I just did a story on Brooke Jolivet, Gabby Stanton and Charlotte Hodges so when I check out the Cy Fair Book Camp, no Stanton and Jolivet was nursing a minor sprain. No problem, I've seen them emerge as legitimate next level players over the season and I'm sure they're ready for everyone else to see that. Hodges also was one that had emerged however she's taken it even farther as her three point shooting was simply off the charts last Friday night and when you hear off the charts, please observe Jasmine Butler who is one of the top players in the state. Hannah Hopkins is coming along nicely and she'll be available for limited play but just put a star by her name for now and remember I told you so

Jayla Calhoun and Anecia Wilkerson give then yet more long and athletic wings who, like Butler, are able to do a variety of things. Kirsten Kramer is a player that can fill it up and the addition of Destiny Navarro gives them yet another long ball threat. She, along with speedster Joyce Kennerson are the additions I hadn't seen but Brenshia Coleman isn't new to me at all and her upside is one of the areas best and when you formulate that into her being 6'1 with probably a 6'2 wingspan and can jump like she's 6'3, uh oh!

Who's the Mack ain't only Phenomenal player #TAMUCamp

I told 2015 Kayla Mack this was the first picture I had of her smiling, keep in mind I caught this young lady back in the 8th grade, but she quickly corrected me that it was the second picture I had with her smiling, I already knew that but I love players that pay attention and she does on off the court, read more

Mack's game has become more deadlier than ever and she's among the top mid and long range shooters I've watched this season and she was one of the reasons the Lady Houston Phenoms went 5-0 over the weekend

Mack wasn't the only reason, this team is loaded and even though it's still hard to get Jasmyne Harris to smile, she's putting plenty of smiles on college coaches faces as she is simply of the best 2016 prospects in the state, well so is Jakeria Ford and those two, along with Joyce Kennerson, one of the top 2015 guards in Texas, all made the East vs West All Star squad.

Remember that commercial, when EF Hutton talks, people listen, yeah I know what eventually happened but I tweeted when I'm adamant about something, just take the gift and this is a "MUST SEE" July stop

#TXInvitational and #AldineTournament today I think

When you go for close to triple double against one of my top teams in the area, well I need to catch Joyce Kennerson again today, it's just that simple. I saw Port Arthur Memorial earlier, I knew they were missing players including JK and since the drive up I-10 is rather long, I need to catch as much of them as possible

With that being said, I'll start at Texas Invitational then catch Atascocita vs Westfield 4pm at Macarthur for around three quarters then head to Aldine Davis to see PAM vs Tomball. Tomorrow, it's me at Wheeler all day longggggggg

2015 GPR Under The Radar players ready for playoffs

I started promoting Texas basketball over a decade ago for the simple reason that I was out on the circuit and I knew the talent here was just as good as it was across the country so no matter what anyone else tells you or what you think you believe, I got the ball rolling and I also have documentation to prove it, that always helps.  With that being said, there will always be kids who are not can’t miss players that fall “Under The Radar” for a number of reasons and the 2015 players I have listed will all play a huge role in how far their teams go in the playoffs so here I’ll be bring you something on these players to close out the week

Deja Hughes (North Shore)
Unique Finley (Hightower)
Aeriel Holiday (Bellaire)
Kimi Cartern (Barbers Hill)
Kryshona Carter (Cedar Ridge)
Joyce Kennerson (Port Arthur Memorial)

2017 Lady Houston Phenoms are ready for action

JOYCE KENNERSON & JASMYNE HARRIS

It seems like only yesterday I took this picture however it wasn't yet all I can say is that I had a pretty good idea I was on the money about several of these players that came through the Lady Houston Phenom pipeline and back in 2012, this is what I said about for stars Shannon Jones (HBU) and Jasmyne Harris (U of H) read more

Please don't tell me how many times I've been right, conversation would drain my battery but on another note, another exciting group is ready for the challenge

Texas Elite Phenoms win #Hoopfest WNBA Blue

Anytime I get to pat myself on the back I'm going to jump on it and although it wasn't four score and seven years ago, well it wasn't even four years ago but I told you about this team read more

I love those little siminisms and my saying "the hunted shall be the hunter" as well as "team of the future" and topped off with "some of the best young talent" and all I can say is either you listen and absorb because I truly know what I'm talking about and colleges  if you ain't subscribing you ain't trying  read more

Jakeria Ford, Alyssa Okeone and Jasmyne Harris are the foundation that has been in place the longest and are, let me hashtag it, #D1LOCKS and you can throw the key away, yeah I've used that line but it sounds so good. Ford's upside is amazing, she doesn't realize how good she can be while Okeone has developed into one of the states top players above the magic number, she's 6'2 with a long wingspan, but can score facing the basket and from the wing off the dribble and Harris, well let me SIM it up like this, she's 5'9 and plays above the rim but read the Tip Sheet

Tip Sheet on Jasmyne Harris

Losing Joyce Kennerson was a void that needed to be filled however Kyler Wyatt brinbgs so much energy on both ends plus can score, three ball included has helped the transition. Ford, Harris, Alanna Spencer and Katie Owen also can shoot the long ball, I called Alanna " Spencer for Hire" and although yall might not catch some of this but with the magic of Google you can get it. Owen might wind up being the X factor on this squad before it's all said and done, sort of like a silent assassin waiting and you talk about waiting, Makeedah Collins has been waiting her turn for a minute and the effort she brings in the paint on both ends will spell relief. Poised beyond her years, freshman Dymond Gladney has shown before it's all said and done she could be "flawless" as the tools are there and the valuable experience she's getting from being "in the heat" will show that it's going hard to melt a Dymond, yeah that was priceless

Joyce Kennerson seals deal as she commits

Joyce Kenenrson falls under several categories and although I called her "Under The Radar" over and over, she's one of those players that simply wasn't because even though a number labeled she fell under "Size Don't Matter" really didn't apply either because she's one of those other types of players I love talking about and that's throwback who simply don't care who you are, she's going to come at you and as talented as she is, one thing you can't teach is heart and the will to succeed. She stands anywhere from 5'3 to 5'5 but plays many inches taller, she's one of the most electrifying scorers in the state and her commitment to TSU shows that people took notice. Several D1 offers were on the table and after sending out some more info this weekend, schools from all over the country wanted to know who this young lady was but she decided on the Tigers and I asked the Port Arthur Memorial star why TSU and this is what her response was.

"I picked TSU because of EDUCATION most of all along with the fan base of the school because when it's time for the games the fans be right there hyping them up. My relatives are also there, it’s closer to where my family lives and I know for a fact it's the school I will graduate from"

Gulf Coast Classic featuring Under The Radar stars

When I look at this picture I only think about how time has flied as I remember a five or six year old Kimi Carter dribbling and shooting as she watched her older sisters play and I just wonder where the time has gone. Carter is a unique situation as she is one of the leaders in many categories for Barbers Hill and that is she has a chance to close out her career with a state run, something she opened it up with as a freshman for the Eagles. Barbers Hill has lost only two games, Cy Woods and Westside however both are 6A schools while the Eagles are one of the best in 5A, well the state period. Carter is one of the best finishers with both hands, can shoot the long ball and defend and that's what she'll be doing as they seem to be on a collision course with Katy Taylor in the semi's

On the top side of the bracket, the explosive Joyce Kennerson has been on a tear all season averaging close to a triple double for Port Arthur Memorial and after watching her drop five threes in a row in the Aldine Invitational in a matter of minutes, that sort of sums up what I mean by explosiveness. Port Arthur Memorial appears to be headed to semi final match-up against  a very tough Dekaney team, Barbers Hill, Dekaney and Port Arthur Memorial are among the GPR Area Top 15 and Katy Taylor definitely has the mix to pull off an upset so this should be interesting to say the least

Check out the brackets on my EVENTS TAB
