Ganon Baker's Take

I know this is supposed to be for GBB, however what Ganon wrote symbolizes what I see is crossing over. It's sad, but it's also true

Shooting For Fourth in 20-5A

Let's face it, HISD GBB isn't that competitive if you take Bellaire, Westside and Madison out of the equation. That's the way is, plain and simple and it appears it will stay that way. Mind you, there are good players on various teams throughout the district but the powerhouses have been those three, Madison is the only one that has gone to state out of the three, went 10 years without losing a district game and continues to pull off upsets against the Dynamic Duo here and there. That "Duo" being Bellaire and Westside who have both made it to the Regional Finals twice in the last 5 years, which is no easy task.
I had a chance to see three teams that will be fighting it out for that final spot, here are some pics

WESTBURY VS WESTSIDE

LAMAR VS CHAVEZ

Ashley Mc Queen has been out all season for Lamar, however there's a possibility she may return, which would give the Redskins a boost

UNSIGNED SENIORS & MAX PREPS

THE NEXT LEVEL

If you have a player or know of one that didn't sign early and you feel they can play at the next level, please email me at girlzprepreport@yahoo.com. Under the SUBJECT, please put the kids name, position and height and in the body I need the HS information, including school address, coaches email, district they play in, along with accomplishments the player(s) have received. Club information would also be helpful, including websites. This is for any kid, anywhere, not just the Houston area.

Also, it would help to have rosters along with number uploaded to Maxpreps.com, this would save a lot of time and energy. Any help is appreciated

Katy @ Hastings

The "Under The Spotlight" game was supposed to feature Westside @ Atascocita on the GPR website however that game was moved up and due to prior commitments, I couldn't make it. I did get a chance to peek in at Katy and Hastings, both teams having a common denominator in defeating Dulles by one point.

Dulles, btw, finished as consolation runner-up in the Ft Bend Tournament and I wanted to see this new look Hastings team since Marla Brumfield took over as head coach. I had no idea Hastings former coach, Bob Wall had stepped down, just as Doug Lechtenberger did at Dulles. These are two of the finest gentlemen I've encountered since my involvement and several great memories are forever embedded in my mind.

Marla Brumfield has played at every level. Her first taste of stardom came as a player for Elsik, well she was a star even before that, then she went on to play for Rice and later in the WNBA

Throughout the years, the Alief district has always had athletic kids and nothing has changed. Darian Page is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

Kibriyaa Roach-Caines provides that extra spark

Shanice Porter has great hands and finishes well

It will be interesting to see if either team can make the playoffs, both have uphill battles in front of them

On a senior dominated team, the future may be in the hands of sophomore Chelsea Oguagha

Courtney Cox is Katy's leading rebounder

Marley Brown is the leading scorer for Katy

Megan Jackman dropped a couple of deep ones in the first half for the Tigers

Husker Classic-HBU vs UMKC

In case you missed me talking about talented kids coming up, remember this name, Bernesha Peters. I have seen many of these kids grow up before my eyes and wind up playing at the next level and I expect this young lady to join the ranks one day as well

Speaking of watching grow up, Raquel Jones and Princess Jeanmard were highlights waiting to happen.

These were two of the stars for HBU tonight. Former Crosby star Tia Jackson scored 12 points while another Elsik great, Destini Texada scored 9 in the first half

. In a game that had 15 kids from Texas between the two teams on the rosters, 26 when you include both games, that shows something about the state having kids playing at the next level. Joselyn Pugh (32) from Plano

Carrloton's Kim Nezianya

Simone Bridges from Murphy by way of Plano East

Dayon Hall-Jones from Dallas

Jamie Spriggs from Navasoto

Kaycie Boyles (55) from Lubbock

If you had to defend this kid, chances are you remember her. Peyton Adamson from Rockwall was one of the top three point shooters, in the country! As a senior, she averaged over 29 ppg and was fourth in the country with 125 from bta!
