Patin explodes for Lady Trojans #PrimeTimeNationals

Rayven Patin is a 2018 name that you'll be hearing a lot about me, well you already have if you're paying attention and mark my word, national evaluators will be playing catch up as well. Patin is a hard to handle PG that can score and her intensity on both ends is one of the reasons why the New Orleans Lady Trojans made a very nice showing at Prime Time Nationals

Another reason was the explosive scoring from Arianna Cooks, off the dribble, she's hard to handle and in the open court, she's simply a highlight waiting to happen. She's beginning to master the floater, it looks pretty darn good right now but her name is one I've mentioned several times and

Patin and Cooks aren't the only ones that caught my eye. Reagan Crawford is already 6'0, that's the magic number coaches contact me about over and over and with her upside, she's going to be a terror. Kaylor Coleman showed BEAST mentality in the paint on both ends as she rebounds and goes to the rim with authority. Kalin Smith loves playing the passing lanes and I love watching players that understand how to do it. She was somewhat of a silent assassin as well as Mya Phillips and Trimell Hooper

I talk to Coach Patin all of the time, I understood his philosophy when I met him at the John Lucas All Star Weekend event and to be truly honest I couldn't wait to see these young ladies in action and I was not disappointed and I certainly look forward to watching these young ladies progress

2018 Rayven Patin added to Under The Radar list

I saw a lot of exciting players competing during John Lucas All Star Weekend and many of them were point guards who actually made the Tip Sheet. Rayven Patin didn't make the Tip Sheet primarily because she had obligations on day one and couldn't play, yes she's a high academic student as well, which trickled over to her operating at point guard for the Baton Rouge Lady Tigers. Smart and steady, setting her teammates up and getting hers in the flow was my initial summary however she showed she could turn it on when needed.

I've added the future Cabrini HS in New Orleans player to my "Under The Radar" list and let me say this, this 5'4 guard has even begun to scratch the potential I see in her because always remember "it's not where you start, it's where you finish" and by the times it's all said and done, she will be among the names you'll be reading a lot

I'll catch Patin March 8th and 9th at the John Lucas 60/60 Combine in Duncanville and you'll be getting a progression report

'18 Patin getting it done in a big way at Cabrini HS #UnderTheRadar

Sometimes I have to go tribal based on the mixture of whatever is going into my head and when you can look into a players eyes and see the heart and will to win, well that's what I saw in Rayven Patin @ra__yyy when I first caught her as a guest player in New Orleans. I've caught her at a couple of camps,, 60/60 done at Cabrini 40/40 and when you add that up along with the fact she was going against some of the top 2018 guards in the country, I'm 100/100 on the fact that she can hold her own with anyone

Fast forward to Prime Time Nationals where she did what I love seeing point guards do, made her teammates better and took over when she needed to and I mean TOOK OVER. It's no surprise that she's getting it done in high school as her team is ranked among the top in the state and a lot of that has to do with one of the most explosive freshmen in the country

2018 Louisiana prospect Patin ready for #PrimeTimeNationals

Ravin Patin has already blown me away with her game after only a couple of sightings. Patin is in town with her New Orleans Lady Trojans teammates and the Under The Radar star will have my eyes wide open as I catch her and fellow Under The Radar Star Tia Tolbert (Sports Prep) on Saturday as bracket play begins in the 8th grade division

'18 Rayven Patin shows shirt says it all #UnderTheRadar

This is one of those players I caught before HS, saw a couple of minutes and was sold, hey two things, it doesn't me long and I AIN'T never been wrong but in spite of my brokjen grammar, you're hear to find out about talent and Rayven Patin is one of the top PGs in the class of 2018, I ain't just talking about crossing that state line to where my peeps from

Patin will take her high powered offensive game to Lebanon, TN for the "Real Deal in the Ville"  for both the July 8-9  and 10-12 sessions, trust me on this young lady !!!!!!

Louisiana and Mississippi from #JLE6060

The Louisiana group of  Brionne Woods, Brooklyn Mitchell, Dynah Jones, Kyla Duncan and Giordin Johnson from Elevate New Orleans  needed no introduction after they caught my attention in a big way during  John Lucas All Star Weekend in New Orleans. Kourtney Weber wasn't on hand at "The Combine" however I got a pretty good look at the other warriors because that's simply what they were in The Big Easy. Weber and Jones made the Tip Sheet from that. Jones is multi-talented at either the one or two and her ability to finish with contact is exciting

Woods showed her agility and athleticism in the full court one on one drills, I was already loving how she and Duncan were just insane in the paint, not only in New Orleans but at the John Lucas 60/60 Combine. Both are strong in the paint and have huge upsides, which means their good but they're going to be better. Johnson was a speedster that created problems on defense in New Orleans however she hurt her head and didn't get to show me everything. She still hasn't but she showed me enough to know she can handle the ball and score, she has plenty of tools at her disposal. Mitchell ran out of gas in New Orleans the last game as they played shorthanded but she stayed fueled up this go round. She simply [plays the game one way, doesn't back down and, well just check the tip sheet

Rayven Patin is sandwiched between her club teammates Kaylin Smith and Kaylor Coleman, Smith is from Mississippi while Patin and Coleman reside in Louisiana. I loved Smith's and Coleman's upside, they grasped what was being taught and actually used it during the games and this will take them a long way.Smith showed she could handle the ball under pressure while Coleman finished well under pressure. Patin shows me something different every chance I see her, her ability to push the ball in transition, run a team, defend on the perimeter were all among the best over the weekend and she made the Tip Sheet

Excellanxt Greer is also from Mississippi and the 7th grader was excellent in many of the drills . I love young players that understand the game and Greer definitely falls into that category. That first step is a killer and she can dribble and finish under pressure and she also sees the floor. She plays good defense and  recovers well if she misses the steal. Nice floater and pull-up jumper and as young as she is..........

Patin ready for #PrimeTimeNationals

I caught Rayven Patin on day two of the John Lucas All Star Weekend and I haven't stopped looking at her since. The explosive 2018 point guard is ready to do some damage at Prime Time Nationals with her New Orleans Lady Trojans club team and I'll be on hand to see the young Under The Radar star who is gaining national attention as I type

Surrounding states bring heat #4040JohnLucas

Several talented players were on hand at The Combine from a variety of states, same as last season and a couple of states that surrounded Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, definitely brought something to the table. I've gone on and on about 2018 Rayven Patin, she's a GPR Under The Radar player you'll be hearing plenty of over the years but and here's some of the articles I've done on the talented prospect read more

KALIA ANDERSON

Patin wasn't alone as three other Louisiana players made their presence felt including a couple of 5'10 forwards, Bethany Hudspeth and Jaden Towner, who not only did a good job rebounding on both ends but they also showed they could score. 2017 guard Kalia Anderson has a lot of symbols by her name and the summary is that she not only can create for herself but for her teammates as she does a good job scoring either by attacking the rim or just shooting from the outside but her ability to see the floor was among the top guards

RAIJA TODD

Arkansas was represented by a couple of players that I had ironically not only seen before and but also written about. Raija Todd is legit, she's a 2018 with a very bright future and her ability to score multiple ways is simply uncanny

Brogan Jones is the other young player from Arkansas, she's a 2016 and standing a tad over 6'1, I guess the biggest thing she's added is more confidence as she commands the ball down low from her teammates and unlike my mail, consistently delivers

Patin and Collins continue to battle #4040JohnLucas as they await Tip Sheets

When people tell me I take good pictures, I tell them I take a lot of pictures and some come out okay because that's the way it is. Some say I'm a good writer, well I'm a good storyteller and sometimes I drift into typo-land plus I might use words I make up to suit me or hip hop, plus I use ain't a lot and even though I know it's wrong, I ain't gonna stop because I don't want to. Some even say I know talent and I would have to agree with that statement because when I call it, you need to be attention and I'm talking on and off the court because evaluate more than just GBB. One thing I do know is these 2018 guards, Rayven Patin and Tyler Collins, are absolute beasts and they've picked back up where they left off in the 60/60 so that plus 40/40 means they're acing it, top that!!!!

Tip Sheets coming on both!!!!

Rayven Patin makes #JLE6060 Tip Sheet

I knew she was good when I saw her in New Orleans but  ten minutes into "The Combine" Patin simply blew me away with that quick first step and it appears #AutoAwesome liked her as well as she was captured twice

John Lucas 60/60 Combine warms up Bob Knight Fieldhouse on opening day

The good thing about camps is that younger players can gauge themselves against other players across the state. I've always promoted players going out and see other talent because you may be the best on your school team, in your district or even city, but Texas is a very big state. With that being said, when you attend an event ran by John Lucas, rest assured you'll be measured against talented players from across the country. Tyler Collins and Taylor Sutton came all the way from Georgia, Oregon had 15 players, Alaska, Washington, Louisiana, Colorado, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana all had multiple players attending and the talent was definitely mind boggling at times

The young ladies from Elevate New Orleans blew me away at John Lucas All Star Weekend three weeks ago and this time they were minus Kourtney Weber, but nothing has changed, they are legit and even more than I thought

Kalin Smith and Kaylor Coleman have Rayven Patin sandwiched. Both showed a lot of potential and the 2018 Under The Radar Patin already had sold me on her having next level potential during the same All Star Weekend event however from what I saw today, her potential will take her way up the ladder. I'll bring you more on the out of state young ladies, they all were impressive and the memory of Sutton going behind her back with the ball, while in the air, and somehow reversing the ball back for a backhanded lay-up will be forever embedded in my mind

Stay tuned, clocks move up and I'll be moving out

2015 Rice Camp featuring several stars

I charged up multiple batteries for a reason, first of all 2019 standout Reagan Montgomery is making the trip down for the Rice Camp which starts at 10am today as she along with several other stars that are ready to showcase their skills. 2016 Angela Wadley, 2017 Laura Daulton and 2018 are among others who will be in attendance as well as 2018 Rayven Patin who is rolling in here from Louisiana, Patin is one of the top point guards in Louisiana, all classes,  so be ready

2015 Rice Camp '18 Tip Sheet

Rayven Patin

I don't like cliches or broad statements or just about anything else simply because it normally doesn't apply on this side of the game and one in particular, the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores truly use to irritate me so why did I post it, I don't know, I guess over the years it's had some merit because making the transition from middle school to high school takes some a little longer than others and some really do explode that second season in high school but then again many have already blown up

Rayven Patin-I saw this young lady two seasons ago and after a couple of passes through traffic and some ballhandling under pressure, I asked her dad could she shoot it. Next time around, that question was answered but her explosiveness simply is icing on the cake because the game starts with the one

D'Asia Collins- when you have the mentality this young lady had before she was 10, there was no doubt she was going to be running a team. Over the years she's gotten stronger andf her range longer but she loves setting teammates up for gimmes

Destini Whitehead-off the top I saw her applying pressure on D, that's a good sign but her energy level stayed the same all day, that's a better sign. She scores multiple ways and had a knack for being around the ball

Jada Peacock- her name alone on a roster caught my eye three years ago and I've her continue to get better every season. She can score under pressure and is one of those players that wants to take the "clutch" shot and unlike my mail carrier she delivers at the right time

JoAnn Taylor- in the 7th grade, I saw her just blow by defenders at will, that first step, that body control, that ability to score taking contact showed me a lot but that improved outside shooting has shown me even more as she's hard to handle

Maniya Powell- she probably thought I was crazy asking her what her name was several times but she just excelled so many different ways that I just had to make sure. Scored and defended in various settings and made things happen

Toni Cuellar- I saw something i her three years ago as she wouldn't back down against older and stronger girls. A couple of growth spurts later, she's turned several corners as a talented scorer and rebounder who creates well from any spot

Maci "Bombs Away" Ray- when you come from a family of talented basketball players and you're the baby, more times than not you're going to be doing some very impressive things and this young lady's name has been floating around since she was I guess 3 or 4 so yes, her name preceded her. She is one of the best shooters in her class, midrange, long range home on the range, she simply gets it done

Other talented sophomores to be I caught a glimpse of  were Elise Shauf, Kaitlin Wykoff, Kyla Justice and Meredith Marcum

'18 Patin ready for 40/40 plus

I'll never forget catching Rayven Patin on day 2 when I covered John Lucas All Star Weekend in New Orleans and after see her throw a couple of passes, I knew something was definitely up and as usual I was correct. The Under The Radar star was one of the standouts at Lucas 60/60 as well as Prime Time Nationals with her New Orleans Lady Trojans squad and the future Cabrini HS star, trust me, will be on hand for the 40/40 as the countdown continues

'18 Patin adds finishing touch to Cabrini win

I've talked Rayven Patin's explosiveness over and over and once again, she simply finds a way to do something to amaze me

'18 Patin shows game starts at the one #GPRUnderThrRadar

Even before I caught Rayven Patin at Cabrini HS,  I knew this young lady had "star" written all over her. She was only a 7th grader and my seeing her happened almost by luck but when you see point guards [playing against older competitive girls and not get flustered, well you're on to something and when this player is running the most important position on the court, PG, and setting her teammates up for easy baskets, well you keep your eye on that "something" but when the line and she starts to simply take over, then you know you're looking at "something special" Check out the video below, she'll be at Deep South April 20-23 and Heart of Texas April 28-30, so will I and when you see the New Orleans Lady Trojans PG in action, I'm sure you'll say "he told me so" cause Iwon't let you forget

Countdown to John Lucas' 60/60 Combine

I saw Rayven Patin a few weeks ago and I'll see her again this coming weekend at the 60/60 in Duncanville. The 2018 Patin is one of the highlights you'll be hearing about from yet another great event I'll be covering this weekend

'18 Patin shows game starts at the one #GPRUnderTheRadar

The first time I saw Rayven Patin I knew she was going to be AWESOME on the court and with the photo below, Google thinks she's #AutoAwesome. The talented 2018 guard helps open up Super 64 before heading to Battle at the Boro with the New Orleans Lady Trojans however along the way, that deceptive first step, high basketball IQ and ability to run a team and take over when needed has raised the eyebrows of many college coaches so far and I guess her high academics and test scores don't hurt

What also doesn't hurt is her ability to play one and two, both good enough for the next level and I'm talking D1. Here's a look at her in motion and click on the link for a little more

New Orleans Lady Trojans make impressive showing at U of H Camp

Okay let me see, Ebony Robinson, Tamea Adams, Kalin Smith, Rayven Patin, Haili Duncan, Kaylor Coleman and Mya Phillips were on hand in Houston this weekend for the Cougars Camp and although I missed Saturday, I saw enough Sunday to get an idea. I already knew about Patin, she blew me away a couple of years ago just by making a couple of passes and since then, I've had a chance to watch this young lady in different settings  read more

With the exception of  Robinson, Adams and Duncan, all of these young ladies showed me something a last seasons Prime Time Nationals as they made a deep run to the E8 if I'm not mistaken but I'm definitely not mistaken about this squad having some talent and a couple of others who didn't make the trip, Arianna Cooks and Reagan Crawford help give this squad that extra boost to go along with what I saw at the camp and that includes Smith's improvement of creating and pulling up for

2015 Rice Camp All Star team

Laura Daulton & Marissa Banfield

HOUSTON, Texas- I had a chance to formally meet the staff at Rice University, I met Rice head coach Tina Langley years ago when my daughter was still in high school and it’s ironic that she’s now assistant coach under Coach Langley.  I’ve seen assistant coaches Josh Hutchinson and Angie Nelp on the circuit but never had a chance to really talk to them so this was a definitely a blast for me.  Alexis Popelar (Director of Operations) and I met over a year ago when she was with Northwestern State so it was great catching up and I’ll be seeing a lot of them all once the season starts. One thing I did see at the Women’s Basketball Camp yesterday at Tudor was an enormous amount of players capable of playing at the next level and I’ll start off with the All Star team since I’m somewhat pressed for time and I’ll throw you some Tip Sheets later including an Under The Radar segment
