Clear Springs vs Manvel on Friday is not supposed to be a pool play game and it very well could be te championship game. How about Duncanville vs The Woodlands on Thursday? All four of these teams could conceivably be #1 seeds in their respective pools and I'm sure that Bellaire will have something to say about that as well before it's all said and done but right now, these are five of the top teams in the state, all are undefeated and only one will leave without a blemish on their record however it's possible, though unlikely, they all could have a loss. If you don't understand the last part, check with me and I'll put it on paper, class is in session and I'm moving along
Favorites to win it
1. Duncanville-Ariel Atkins and Tasia Foman are both among my GPR Texas Top 20 for 2014, they are both legitimate players who are capable of going off against anyone at anytime and when you throw in Kiara Perry (SMU) who showed she could play all five positions over the summer, they could leave here unblemished as well as defending last seasons championship
2.Manvel-Brianna Turner and Jordan Hosey are among the top players in their respective class nationally, Turner #1 for 2014 while Hosey is a 2015. The addition of the Rangie Bessard gives them an imposing front line not seen by many
3. Clear Springs-Brooke McCarty is also ranked among the top 2014 players nationally and we all know the game starts at the one and she is "The Chosen One" however Springs could pop both Manvel and Duncanville and here's why. The back court pressure the Chargers administer can create headaches for many teams, plus when you have kids that know and play their roles the way they do, this could be interesting. Courtney Latham (Tulane) and Jo Lira (Lamar) have already sealed their deal while "Under the Radar" Kaylin Roher showed she could "light em up" against the best of them when McCarty was out some of last season
4. Bellaire- AJ Alexander (TCU) has been "The Real Deal" since forever or at least the first time I saw her. Lulu McKinney has stepped up and relished under the spotlight with the departure of their outstanding 2012 players however from what I'm jearing, the move-in will make a big difference
5.The Woodlands-Kelsey Lang (Texas) beefed up last year and is showing she can carry a team after The Woodlands also lost some outstanding players from last season. Nicole Iademarco and Kristin Mahoney compliment Lang as the Highlanders have put together some impressive wins so far. Bench play will be crucial, Katie Burke is still adjusting to varsity however she will be a major factor before she graduates. Thursday night, either The Woodlands or Duncanville will have a loss, well at least one
