'18 Ghavidel already a Champion

Katlyn Ghavidel has been doing some amazing things for quite some time and after setting numerous made three point records along the way, her freshman season at Boerne Champion will create lots of interest. Ghavidel's smoothness on the court didn't happen over night, neither did an abundance of weapons she's added to her offensive arsenal since playing with the South Texas Hoyas however what this Under The Radar star continues to show is growth and progression and watching her catch and shoot, with accuracy, from long range is simply something to see.

Ghavidel already breaking records

'18 Katlyn Ghavidel knows how much I enjoy watching her, hey the young lady falls under the  "basketball player" category and not just someone playing basketball. I've watched her do amazing things at an early age, in fact as a seventh grader she shattered the school scoring record for both boys and girls and this year she's on course to shatter her own record

Ghavidel sprained her ankle last week during a game back home in San Antonio and almost didn't make it to the Hoop A Holics Camp but told her mom she didn't want to disappoint me, which simply blew me away for two reasons, she was still performing amazing feats through the drills and scrimmages, if you haven't seen her shoot the ball, just remember the name and by wanting to play despite being hurt because I was looking forward to seeing her. I'm still blown away, more to come

Under The Radar Tip Sheet #CyFairFallClassic #TheLastRun

REAGAN HEUN

I had a chance to catch up with some of the Girlz Prep Report Under The Radar players over the past weekend and one thing I have always been about and always will be about is progression and this group definitely continue to show just that

2015

Torrie Thompson -5'8 guard- Clear Lake HS (Pearland Hawks) Thompson is a scoring machine, she's hard on both ends and she showed e another plus as she played on a severely sprained ankle. That doesn't matter, she averaged double digits for the event including a 25 point outburst

Tess Clark-5'10 guard-John Cooper HS (Pearland Hawks) Left hander that can score with either along with her size is one plus while her physicality on both ends is another. Played hard on both ends and made some things happen

2016

Brittany Panetti -6'3 post-Tomkins HS (Pearland Hawks) Panetti's versatility continues to be one of her biggest assets as she not only can score in the paint but stretch the defense by facing the basket and score mid to long range. Can she play the 4, yes she can, no if ands or butts

2017

Marissa Banfield- 5'6 point guard-Westbury Christian HS-Simply a gets the job done player that has an IQ worthy of Basketball Mensa status. She handled the pressure with ease and her ability to see the floor, thread the needle for easy baskets, along with being able to take over offensively, almost made me want to go back and pay

Jade Le-Blanc Ernest-5'7 guard- CHSA (Pearland Hawks)-Leblanc's steady improvement on both ends continue to amaze e and although she too wasn't 100%, you would never know. Played great defense and came up with big baskets during crunch time

KHATLYN GHAVIDEL

2018

Khatlyn Ghavidel-5'7 guard-Boerne Champion HS ( SA Finest Diamond)- I always say you have to be able to do more than shoot the three and Ghavidel continues to elevate her game in other areas. She found ways to not only get to the line but showed more aggressiveness on both ends but her ability to knock the long ones down are already among the top players in the state

Reagan Heun-5'9 guard-New Braunfuels HS (SA Finest Red)- Big guards that can shoot are a hot commodity for the next level yet Huen also has added some muscle to her game and fro what I saw she will be overpowering many guards offensively over the years. She's also showing several intangibles that don't come up in the box score which is always a plus

'18 Ghavidel helping keep tradition going for Hoyas

The South Texas Hoyas just keep me on my toes with an array of talented players on multiple teams. Brittany Rodgers just made the Tip Sheet from the Cy Fair Invitational and still has me wondering how in the world she made one shot in particular but moving up this weekend to play in the PSB event held in Georgia are three other young players who are familiar with GPR Tip Sheets as they've been featured multiple times.

Deja Kelly, only a 2020, yet already has me thing a serious MDAA contender. Sophia Ramos, a 2018 who has made one of the most tremendous jumps over the course of two seasons than any player I've seen, let's me know she's been definitely working because I see the progression. Then there is Katlyn Ghavidel, another sharpshooter from San Antonio who almost brought me to tears when she attended the Pass Tha Ball Camp back in December despite her ankle being the size of an orange telling me she didn't want to disappoint me., well that will never happen because even at the camp, she simply brought it

Ghavidel is definitely Under The Radar nationally, colleges in Texas know about her and if they don't don't they most certainly will because this catch and shoot artist launches shots from spots so deep that you might need a radar to know exactly where she is on the court. What truly impressed me is the fact that even though she's one of the top long ball shooters in the state, that wasn't enough and she's taking players off the dribble and scoring with contact not to mention  playing solid perimeter defense

2018 Ghavidel ready for action in #CFInvite

Sharpshooter Katlyn Ghavidel showed me she was going to be deadly from bta the first time I saw her what seems like a lifetime ago however as I think about how short of a period it's actually been, I've watched this young lady in a variety of settings, from camps to playing for the South Texas Hoyas and each time, I've seen something extra. This season, the Under The Radar guard has added not only taking defenders off the dribble and finishing with a little flair and contact, her defense has improved and when you're this young, there is no telling how high up the D1 list she can go

One thing is for sure, I will keep you posted and trust me, Ghavidel is going to be a name you won't forget

'18 Ghavidel torching nets off the top #UnderTheRadar

I love watching young kids that can shoot the three and freshman Katlyn Ghavidel   could always do that but what I love even more is when they develop even more, like the ability to catch and shoot, take defenders off the dribble or that ever so important midrange game. The kid was a D1 lock almost immediately however what she's doing at Boerne Champion isn't anything surprising to me as she's one of the states top scorers and the top freshmen scorer at just under 19 ppg

STATS

Whoa, I already know what some of you might start thinking and remember "it's not what you do it's who you do it against" so let's just take a look back and what I've seen her do

'18 Ghavidel opens up HS career in a big way

Katlyn Ghavidel has already shown me she is more than just a next level player and the GPR Under The Radar star has been putting up numbers from long range since the first day I laid eyes on her. Ghavidel opened up her career at Boerne Champion in a huge way scoring 23 points which included 3/5 from bta and adding 4 steals. The additional 14 points she scored lets you know she can put inn the basket multiple ways

'18 Katlyn Ghavidel #UnderTheRadar no more

The first time I saw Katlyn Ghavidel, there was no question about her ability to shoot the long ball, I think she dropped 7 or 8 the first time I saw her and over the course of the next three seasons, that became somewhat of a norm, keep in mind she hadn't even entered high school yet

Fast forward to high school, as a freshman, she averaged almost 20 ppg and made over 100 three pointers, this year almost mirrors last season as far as ppg but she dropped her 100th 3 in her first 22 games and also went over the 1000 point mark for her career

Under The Radar Sharpshooter Ghavidel ready for #TAMUCamp

Kaitlyn Ghavidel might be Under The Radar now but  she definitely won't be for long as you may need radar sometimes to catch where she's launching them from. Hey, she hasn't even made her first HS three yet the 2018 standout has already shattered MS records

Ghavidel is one of over 100 players I'll get a chance to take a first or yet another look at on Saturday

San Antonio brings sharpshooters to "Young Guns"

I love this picture because it has Katlyn Ghavidel (2018) followed by Megan Valdez (2017). Let's see both are guards, both are from San Antonio and both are 5'4. Oh yeah, both can fill it up, fast and I mean real fast. My first look at Ghavidel showed me she could create and knock down shots under tough defensive pressure and at that age, that's a big plus.

Valdez has already made the big girls site after several amazing shooting performances I witnessed at the Big Tyme Fall Finish, read more. This kid can score in bunches and I remember leaving to get a bottle a water, all of 45 seconds and being told I had missed three threes

'18 Katlyn Ghavidel changing lyrics of "This Girl Is On Fire"

GPR Under The Radar star Katlynn Ghavidel knows how to open defenses up with those long range bombs and she also knows how to open up her high school career. She not only made an All Tournament team in the first week of the season but after five games she's eclipsed 100 points good enough to be among the Top 5 scorers in Texas 5-A but lets jump back to the opening sentence. Her long range bombs, 22 so far, on just 42 attempts, let me help you out, that's over 50% in the early going and if she continues at the rate, she'll pass the century mark with ease

Ghavidel ready to light it up at Hoop A Holics Camp Dec 15 in Duncanville

Many fans love three point shooters, I love three point shooters that can do multiple things, especially when they catch and shoot and put it on the floor to score. Okay I'll tell you why, one it keeps the defense honest and it gives you more leverage as far as options to play at the next level. 2018 Katlyn Ghavidel happens to be one of those types of players as she's already shown she one of the states top long ball threats in not her class, but when she enters high school next season, period

Records will fall, trust me on that but also trust me when I say that she adds even more firepower to the star studded Hoop A Holics Camp coming up on Sunday, December 15 in Duncanville. It's been cold in that area but the weather is already feeling the heat coming from the upcoming camp as ice is falling. How good are you? Test yourself against some of the top players in your class this Sunday

Young Hoyas show what I needed early Sunday at #cyfairinvite

I truly enjoy watching the younger players develop into stars of the future, it's good for the game, it's good for state but even more importantly, it's good for me to say I told you so. Katlyn Ghavidel and Deja Kellyare still ahead of schedule, I already knew that from the last time I saw them but I really wanted to take a more in depth look at their team, I guess I was having a premonition about emails coming

Who else impressed me, well basically the whole team as Coach T has quite a young group of players that have more than a shot at the next level. Breyah Richardson is long and athletic and at 5'10 showed she could also hit the mid-range jumper. The same could be said for Victoria Hall who also ran the floor and attacked well

Sophia Ramos gives them yet another three point shooter to go along with Ghavidel and Kelly and once she went hard to the basket and took a Tyson hit, yet finished and completed the and one, symbols galore were by her name.

This is a very good mixture of young talent, Patricia Patterson does what I love to see players do and that's anticipate well. That in itself lead to numerous easy buckets for the 5'10 player as she handled the ball extremely well in the open court. Sheila Alexander-Smith was an absolute beast on the boards as SAS was sending an SOS that the paint belonged to her

Hoyas look #AutoAwesome in #TAMUCamp All Star Game

Yes Deja Kelly is only to the 7th grade and she was the baby of the babies from the South Texas Hoyas that played in the North South All Star game. Joining her were club teammates Sophia Ramos and Katlyn Ghavidel, a couple of 2018 players you'll be hearing about in HS next season
Another club teammate on hand in the big game was Megan Valdez who  is a 2017 you should already know about after helping lead her Brennan HS team to state last season and they're going to be in a position to make another run. The HS kids will be noticed and I'll throw some MS stuff about Deja when I make a surprise visit to try and catch them all playing

2018 "Young Guns" colorful on & off the court

Zarielle Green

With two Whites, a Green and a Peacock, this 2018 group of future stars definitely left a lasting impression and as they get closer to that transformation stage of playing in high school within the next two years, these young ladies were solid from top to bottom as any other group I've witnessed in a camp setting. Although I saw some for the first time, I've seen a few many times before and watching Zarielle Green turn yet another corner tells me she is going to be a  "BigTyme" playa in the not so distant future. Although these seventh graders below are on my GPR Watch List, many of them will move up to yet another list once the summer ends and that one is called my GPR Rising Stars.

2018's mix it up with big girls at Cy Fair Evaluation Camp

Many 8th graders had a chance to mix it up with the HS girls at the Cy Fair Evaluation Camp and to say many held their own would be an understatement. Eliecia Lartigue showed me fire and desire back in the third grade and like the song, I was pretty sure she'd be a hit as well and she's on course. Cydney Rivera isn't just Cienna's little sister anymore, nor will Stephanie Gregory be labeled as Sentreal's or Mikayla Schenck being Madison's. I heard about Macy Ray and Tia Tolbert was injured when I tried to catch her, okay I liked what I saw and you're on the radar, as well as Carlen Diaz, Angel Flipp, Catherine Reese and Alyce Fields.

Jasmine Smith made the Full Court Tip sheet, so did Charli Collier who still has my head spinning on that crossover but one thing I like from all is improvement from the ones I've seen over and over and over. Sophia Ramos and Katlyn Ghavidel were just in New Orleans lighting up Alario playing in their age group, nothing changed here as they were confident and ready to mix it in with the older players

I can't emphasize how much I enjoy watching young, talented ball players who listen, comprehend and absorb what's being taught. This will take them  a long way, trust me

South Texas Hoyas Gray and Blue show what's up at #TXSpringInv

Let's see, on the Gray team you have 2016 Janik Alexander Smith, simply operating like a fine tuned machine game after game, 2018 Katlyn Ghavidel who is going to set some three point records and 2020 Deja Kelly who is, well do some big things along the way, real big. I've seen the Hoyas probably more over the last few months than I have the previous years combined and both team have a little bit of everything. Sophia Ramos and Victoria Hall showed the could shoot the three, Zhazza Brown was knocking them down from everywhere and Patricia Patterson just elevated over opponents for buckets and rebound. Daeja Lewis  showed great athleticism on both ends and I knew when I saw Dominique DeHoyos attack, I had seen her recently and I did. She was on Poth's state semifinal team and she can get wherever she wants on the floor and finish

Don't fret, much of the same on the Blue team as well and when you talk about setting three point records, HS get ready for Megan Valdez next season. Valdez has added more to her game every time I watch and she and Jade Brady were hitting the long ball just every time I looked up. Arysia Porter and Ashia McCluarin both showed they could handle the ball and finish well, Porter also saw the floor well no to mention she came up with several huge steals. Skyla Reyna did some damage in paint and Brittany Rodgers just keeps improving in every aspect of the game and with her strength, she will be a force. Already a force is Claudia Curtis who has a nice pull up jumper which was consistent, no to mention she anticipated and rebounded extremely well

Kelly and Alexander Smith made Tip Sheets from both Full Court and GPR

South Texas Hoyas pull Tip Sheet trifecta at #AllStarWeekend

There are few things I like more than watching "good" basketball games, especially smart young players who comprehend the game. Nothing irks me more than watching older players not doing simple things, especially watching a ball lobbed from one end of the floor to the next and decide to defend after the player catches it, sometimes the ball seems hangs long enough for me to rush and get hot dog and make it back, hey I'm telling you how it seems

None of that applies to this young and talented South Texas Hoyas team who simply blow me away whether I'm watching them during camps or this past weekend when they captured their second consecutive John Lucas All Star Weekend  title. Khatlyn Ghavidel, Ta'Niya Jackson and De'Ja Kelly made the Tip Sheet this go round but they all will be on one or more throughout the season, trust me and all I can say is this, #HaveIBeenWrongYet

#Hoyaswhat at March Fest

The South Texas Hoyas are one of those San Antonio teams that I have to check out every chance I get because one thing is always for certain, there will be a number of players that can do a variety of things which equates to the next level, so remember that formula.

One formula you may want to figure out is how in the world can you stop Kaitlyn Ghavidel because this young lady is one of the best long ball shooters in the state, I know she hit five in one game this past weekend, and she's not even in high school.

At the BigTyme Camp, this is what I said about her  read more

Before you question me, I said the same thing about Minta Spears ability to stroke it from bta almost 10 years ago while she was in elementary school and we all know\how that turned out!
