2017 Kayla Owens drops 40
Kayla Owens isn't the first player in middle school to score 40 points in a game but to my knowledge she's the first that plays at a school, Kahla, that is a homophone for her first name, to score 40, I'll get back with you after I check with Guiness and I'm not talking about the book
Every time I've seen this young lady play, she's shown me something different and while she was still raw when I saw her for the first time almost a year ago, she showed rapid improvement at the Big State Flava Jam and was simply off the charts at the Young Guns Camp I covered last year
Owens is also the name of a popular sausage which is great because Kayla will be cooking this season!

2017 Owens cooking has Langham Creek in D-17
Kayla Owens has stepped onto center stage and made her presence felt early in her career and especiallyin District 17 for the Langham Creek Lobo's. Owens, along with Corrine and Caylinne Martin, gibe them a front-line averaging over six feet and has already put together some impressive victories, including a shocker against preseason favorite Cy Woods. When you throw in they've lost to Cy Fair and Cy Creek, this tells you why I say 17 is the toughest district in the area, remember analysts analyze
Standings
Tonight, they travel to Cy Falls,, Falls is currently a game ahead in what appears to be a six team race for four spots. I'll be at Cy Ranch who have a couple of freshmen of their own doing damage, Deauzya Richards and Arianna Whitfield. Ranch is currently tied for 1st with Cy Fair and they host Cy Woods who will try and tighten this thing up even more
Here's the schedule, if you click on page 2, nm, always double check and don't trip with me if it's the wrong time or site, I'm only good as the info in front of me

Owens Raw But ............
Triple D has some bright young stars that I had a chance to get a glimpse of during the Houston Insiders Basketball Classic. I had seen Marissa Banfield a couple of weeks earlier, two minutes was all I needed and although I had heard some great things about Erica Powell, I had to see for myself, I wasn't disappointed. With that being said, I also had hear about a 2017 player named Kayla Owens who is almost at the magic 6'0 number and with her athleticism right now, she will be assured of playing at the next level somewhere. I did my top five middle school players and although Owens didn't make, she may be there before it's all said and done, read more

Monsters show out at Cy Fair Evaluation Camp- Full Court Tip Sheet coming
I know they look innocent but trust me, you do not want to deal with these young ladies on the court. Kayla Owens, Chasity Patterson and Deauzya Richards all made the Full Court Tip Sheet coming up, along with Marissa Banfield from the 2017 class however there were others in attendance at the camp who will have their names in the bright lights before I'm done.
I saw it in Patterson and Richards as I sort of stumbled on both, Patterson just leaving elementary school to attend a North Shore game and her dad was kind enough to let me watch her do a few drills in before the game started.
Richards has always been an innovator, on and off the court, and although she may not have invented the pose, she brought it mainstream and has never looked back on or off the court
This picture tickled me as I saw Banfield surrounded by these big girls and I was tickled even more after actually seeing her play but I can't really take credit for Owens because Marissa;s dad suggested I take a peek at a tournament
What can I say about Owens, hey they named the school after her right? Stay tuned

Clear Springs vs Langham Creek Regional preview
Langham Creek has surprised many people, I'm not one of them because when I watched Briley Perkins and Dyani Robinson start as freshmen last season, the heat they brought on both ends and the maturity they showed off the top as well as the desire, well I knew they would be in the hunt with GPR Texas Top 20 player Kayla Owens, who was out last season with a knee injury
Owens had a 3 for all in the quarterfinals dropping 4 and a couple of more were in and out but the stuff this young lady has done over the years since I first saw her in the 7th grade has been amazing. Add Dezi White and Mariel Wade to the equation and this starting 5 is solid with players that can score and defend
They got here for the first time in, well forever I believe but I'm not 100% sure as they knocked off TABC #14 Hightower and #6 Seven Lakes so to be honest, you can't really count them out against #2 Clear Springs, or can you?
Tasharian Robinson and Sierra Cheatham have been on my radar since the 7th grade, wait Robinson was in the 6th grade playing up and I simply knew that they were going to be D1 players, well as well as Owens, at a very young age.
The Chargers love to bring heat on defense, that's been their style forever and that old saying "if you can't stand the heat" is one of the main reasons their ranked #2 in the state.
Talented '18 PG Dymond Gladney has simply gotten better each year, one more time folks, "the game starts at the one" and her ability to run a team as well as set teammates up is among the best in the state plus she can take over a game offensively if needed. Add the much improved JaNay Redic to the equation and game one should be exciting

Jones makes Monster Class even scarier at 40/40
Kayla Jones boxing out Kayla Owens, priceless as the the two freshmen BCS players to be gave me a lift at the John Lucas 40/40 camp. I'm already working on my next Photoshop photo for Owens, this one will have her placing a nickle on the top of the backboard but until then, enjoy Jones on the latest Tip Sheet

Owens slams one in game
I can't find the picture I took of Kayla Owens above the rim and someone suggested that the picture was Photoshopped and with my quick witted response I shot back "If I had time for that you'd see less typos" but anyway I'm told last night it happened, the 2017 star from Langham Creek dunked in a game and the video is coming but for now, check out what I've said about her so far

DFW Elite Swiftly arrive at #TXSpringInv
Alexis Morris and Breah Powell were called one of if not the most dominant club back-court before it's all said and done.. Arianna Whitfield and Alexandria Crain have showed that they can actually take over when needed while Stephanie Jackson has complimented the others as well and all are guards.
Deauzya Richards blinded me more with her talent than the orange shoes she was wearing the first time I saw her as she has simply continued to rise to whatever occasion, btw, I have a pair just like those. Richards, Zarielle Green and Kayla Owens are similar players in size however each brings their own uniqueness to the club. Richards has shown the ability to play multiple positions quite well at the next level, Owens sometimes appears to have wings as she simply soars while Green, well that's the right color because as the baby of the bunch, she's going to be hard to contain once everything is said and done

Cy Fair youngstas growing up fast
When you have Charli Collier, Laura Daulton and Kayla Owens on the floor, expect the paint to be controlled. Arianna Whitfield and Rachel Tapps, or Jasmine Smith and Leah Silva or any mixture including Madison Schenck, Ariel Starks, Sierrra Cheatum or Alyce Fields and when you bundle everything together, you have a recipe destined for success. Collier, Smith and Fields are all in MS, Collier has already committed to Texas so with me saying that, you should have the picture, if not, check out the Tip Sheet yet again on Collier, read more
Tapps, one of the top defenders in the state, and Schenck, a six footer that can also shoot the three, are a couple of my Under The Radar players that I'm looking forward to seeing them explode real soon. Owens has BCS offers on the table, she plays above the rim whether I Photoshop the picture or not and if you're playing against her and don't recognize her, ask to see bottom of her shoe, now should have that picture
Whitfield, Starks and Silva can fill it up, Cheatum is more of a slasher while Daulton and Fields simply have the potential to overpower you with their massive frames, something Collier has mastered. Smith is running the one against the big girls and with that never quit attitude, she will excel at the end

Langham Creek loses Owens but nucleus is intact
This is a tough class going on and year after year it gets harder and harder but as happy as I am to see 2017 leave, several players, especially those I started covering on MS sort of tears me up to see them leave. Kayla Owens is one of those players and as she heads on to UCLA, I just have to take my hat off to the young lady who simply expanded her game to become one of the most dominant players in not only area but Texas
Langham Creek will be in good hands with that sensational sophomore duo of Dyani Robinson and Briley Perkins as well as junior wing Dezi White who is "out of sight". Throw in Mariel Wade, some incoming freshmen and players moving up and the Lobos ain't done yet after reaching their first regional semis

Owens will be smoking at Texas Invitaional
I've several calls and texts asking me if I doctored the photo showing Kayla Owens around the rim and my sarcastic response was "yes, I Photo-shopped it made the rim lower"
No nickname pops in my head, so I don't what Ill be calling her but the most important thing is that colleges will be calling and in droves. I'll be at the Texas Invitational this weekend and my suggestion is to get on these DFW Swift players early because, well because.
They will be only a few of probably hundreds of players that can and will play at the next level. Tiny won't be in attendance but this is one TI you don't want to miss

#TAMUCamp closes with a bang in East vs West game
COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Talk about closing the camp out with a bang is exactly how this seasons Elite Team Camp went in Aggieland and I was happy I made the trip for a number of reasons. I got a chance to spend time with my daughter, it's hard to believe it's been over three years since she played her last game there, I had a chance to see some players I might not see again in July and I had a chance to see many stars of future I hadn't seen before including Sydney Crockett and Peyton Tennison from Arkansas as well as Kiki Hannah and Tandra King from Oklahoma. All were impressive including a young lady I've seen numerous times from Oklahoma, Jonah Johnson who put on one of the best offensive performances I've seen in a half in, well ever
Chennedy Carter showed out, no surprise there, as well as the Richardson duo of Dorian Branch and Arleighsha McElroy who may be rolling to Austin next season. Kayla Wells, DiDi Richards and Kayla Owens keep proving how smart I am as far as evaluating talent, they along with Carter are among the top 2017 players in the world while Natasha Mack simply went off and has turned into not just scary on defense but a nightmare period. Those three "size don't matter guards", Joyce Kennerson, Angela Harris and Jalen Richard-Harris simply help put on shows doing plenty of acrobatic stuff that I love to see and as I said before, there was no cable in Reed Arena but plenty of TV as Tatum Veitenheimer and Paris Netherly are a couple of 2018 players that will make immediate impacts next season and when you talk about impacts, Jakeria Ford and Jasmyne Harris make them just about every-time they're on the floor

2015 Texas A&M ELITE Camp top performers
![]() |
| Lexi Gordon & Tatum Veitenheimer |
COLLEGE STATTION, Texas – The Texas A&M Elite Camp continues
to attract some of the top talent not only from Texas but across the country and
reading the list of players that participated was something like a Who’s Who of
heavy hitters with bright resumes and options on where they may attend.
Arguably one of the top point guards in Texas, Jaelyn Richard-Harris was on
hand as well as her club teammate Jasmine Williams who helped lead Cy Woods to
the state title. Cate Reece was also in attendance, she played on that same Cy
Woods team had a big hand in their success, not to mention she’s pone of the
top 2018 players in Texas.
Speaking of state, the run that Kianna and Brianna Suber
helped lead Rudder to the semi’s was amazing, they were in attendance while
fellow 2017 Aeriel Starks who went completely off in the regional semis as well
as another 2017 Marissa Banfield, one of the top points in Texas for that 2017
class put on a show as she helped Westbury Christian make a run to the finals
in their classification in TAPPS.
Also in attendance was Oklahoma’s own Jonah Johnson, I’ve played around with the “ JJ and DYNOMITE” phrase multiple ways so that should give you picture and icing on the cake had to be Natalie Chou, a young lady I saw that was destined for greatness while she was in the 8th grade playing in Prime Time Nationals, she made the USA Team last season.

Katy ISD Tournament second eight
I haven't seen Ellison, I know a Madison Hattix-Covington but I see a Kaleana listed with the same last name so we'll see on that as they open up against Ridge Point while Cinco Ranch tangles with Eisenhower. I've seen glimpses of both Langham Creek and their Oak Ridge opponent. Langham also has one of the states top freshmen in Deziree White along with one of the top sophomores, Kayla Owens however I would be totally surprised if Atascocita isn't playing in their second tournament semifinal. The Taz has already won the Aldine ISD Tournament and with their double-double twin towers of Hannah Hopkins and Anacia Wilkinson ready to do damage, they're going to be hard to contain as they open it up with Katy

Six teams still in 17-5A hunt
I'll never forget somehow capturing a photo of young Kayla Owens over the rim in the summer and someone suggesting I had Photoshopped the pic which was humorous to say the least. The talented freshman's addition has her team, Langham Creek, over the rim as well this season as they are in a position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008 I believe
Tonight they travel to Cy Woods who is currently in a three way tie for second (6-2) with Cy Ranch and Cy Creek while undefeated and in the drivers seat for first place Cy Fair (8-0)hosts Jersey Village.Cy Ranch hosts Cy Springs while Cy Creek battles Cy Falls at the Berry Center, Falls and Langham are tied for fifth place (5-3)

Alexis The Great helps GTE mobilize the nets at #HSHT
Alexis Morris, Chasity Patterson and DiDi Richards are all game changers which means you are going to have to keep changing your game plan to stop them in the not so distant future. All three are from the Houston area, all three are LEGITIMATE BCS players and none of them have played one minute of high school ball. The killing part about it is another 2017 player, Kayla Owens, is almost ready to dunk on somebody without me having to Photoshop a picture and before it's over, well..........
Morris excelled this weekend as she suited up for her old team and her presence on the floor had fans not believing me when I said how old she was which is cool but anyway, check out the quick hitter

Area major upset
Caylinne Martin goes off for 17 as Langham Creek defeats Pearland on the road by 10. Pearland is ranked #8 by TABC and also high by SIMMIE. Pearland lost by 20 plus at Langham last season at made to the area F-4 so one more time, it ain't where you start it's where you finish, but the addition of Kayla Owens to Langham Creek probably solidifies District 17 as the areas toughest district. Biggest upset of the night coming up next, well not really because, well you'll see
