The Big Three Plus

I mentioned Klein Forest's dramatic turnaround last season was due to the tremendous threesome of Gray, Parker and Scott all freshmen who made a name for themselves.

One 2014 player you may not know much about is Jeliah Preston who is ready to step out of the shadows and fill it up from anywhere on the court. Already known as a gifted shooter from "bta", Preston has taken it to another level, something she and her young teammates plan on as they attempt to make a run.

To make that run, remember the game starts at the ONE and after stepping into the starting role of PG for KF last season, a more confident Desiree Davis plans on leading them even further, along with adding more bling in the trophy case. Davis is blessed with something other than height that you can't teach, speed. She is also one of the most explosive guards in the city and if you need 100% from a player on both ends, count on DD. Losing senior Keylantra Taylor in the middle, who will be suiting up for Dillard next season, will be a big blow however Klein Forest will be in the hunt.

The Talent Keeps Coming

With the success of Phi Slamma Jamma, Texas became a hotbed for recruiters looking at unknown talent on the boy's side. It took almost 25 years for many to realize there were girl's that could go in and change programs right off the bat and from what I'm seeing that trend still continues. I've mentioned the Fastbreakers have some of the top young talent in the city, however it doesn't stop there as I see the Class of 2015 on down with future stars in the making.

The Texas Warriors, Cut The Nets and Fort Bend Express join the Fastbreakers for that 2015 class of soon to be freshmen who will be impact players off the top

Entertainment at it's best, these young kids will be the ones we are talking about in the not so distant future, so enjoy the ride, it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon

Dillingham Returns

Last season, Klein Collins started out with a bang, one of their biggest wins was over eventual State Champion Irving Macarthur and many believed they had a chance to make it as far as the Regional Final 4, however a first round loss to The Woodlands ended that dream. They were operating with one of the best scoring duos in the area, Veja Hamilton and Dominique Dillingham, however the injury bug hit Dillingham who tried numerous times to come back but it was one thing after another. After seeing "Niques" performance so far in the club season, it appeaars she will be ready to do some damage alongside Hamilton next season and pick up where they left off. On a side note, congratualtions to Hamilton who has verballed to TCU!

Fast and Furious

I attended the  Houston Fastbreakers Summer Classic over the weekend and as usual I wasn't disappointed as their program has some of the top young talent in the city. If you recall, I was the one that called Klein Forest's turnaround last season and left my doubters scratching their heads once again because that's what I do. Ekiya Gray, Ebony Parker and Regina Gray were the primary reason KF went off.  Keep an eye on 2012 Taylor Overton over the summer. This kid has elevated her game and is a next level player.

I don't know if my new "Big Three" will carry Spring back to the playoffs for the first time since 2006, but I do know Bernesha Peters will be electrifying and entertaining. Even though she's undersized, she understands the game and has one thing you can't teach, heart. Adding her, along with the two Brittany's, Smith and Perkins, will give Spring a solid nucleus. The tallest of the three is only 5'7, so the impact may not be as huge as KF's was last season, but it will be an impact because once again " The game starts at the ONE"

BACK IN ACTION

 

I had a chance to observe some of the "Rising Stars" in our area last week and  once again it's refreshing to see so many talented players in our area. Established stars such as AGH Sedalia Ellis, Diominsha Sophus and  Crystal Porter to players ready for breakout seasons like Logan Johnson and Dani Fielder were on hand, not to mention those youngs ladies that put Klein Forest on their backs in route to the schools first playoff appearance.

Speaking of playoff appearances, West Mesquite was 4 points shy of making it to state last season and I had a chance to see why as their point guard, Sha'georgia Williams, showed why she was all everything the past season

The talent in Texas is second none, I preached it for years and we all see how that turned out. The father of one of the top players in the area told me I had showed my daughter lot's of love on the blog during the National Championship run, but the players in the area needed some love too. He's right and I'll be adding more over the next few weeks. Why are these young ladies from Clear Springs and Dekaney smiling? Because they know they have as good a chance as anyone to make it to state next season.

CHRONICLE ALL GREATER HOUSTON

I had  to take a little time off to catch my breath and re-charge after rolling with Texas A&M on their magical run along with enjoying the hospitality and excitement at the WNBA draft. With that being said, congratulations to all of the young ladies selected on the AGH team, however I still feel there should be two seperate lists, one for 5A and one for the other divisions. The All District selections are at the bottom of the page.

FIRST TEAM

Crystal Porter
Junior, Elsik, post
Averaging 18.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and two blocks per game, Porter led the Rams to the Class 5A state tournament semifinals. She also was selected to 
the state all-tournament team.



Courtney Williams
Junior, North Shore, post
Williams, who committed to Texas A&M, averaged 16.9 points and 10.6 rebounds en route to leading the Mustangs to the Class 5A Region III final.



Amber Orrange
Senior, Westbury Christian, guard
Orrange, who signed to play for Stanford, anchored the Lady Wildcats to their third consecutive TAPPS Class 4A state championship while averaging 13.7 points and 8.3 assists. She finished her high school career with 1,775 points, 652 rebounds, 565 steals and 901 assists.



Cassie Peoples
Senior, Cy-Fair, guard
The 5-6 guard and McDonald’s 
All-American averaged 24.1 points per game for the Bobcats. She signed to play for Texas next season.



Jenzel Nash
Senior, Worthing, guard
The senior guard and future UTEP Miner led the nation in scoring this season, averaging 37.7 points in 23 contests.

Sydney Colson and Danielle Adams were taken in the second round of the WNBA draft. I am so proud of these young ladies and I will do a story on my daughter who has accomplished something only a few if any from Houston have done and that's being an All American that won a National Championship and was drafted by the WNBA. All They Do Is WIN,WIN,WIN!

If you had a chance to watch the run, hopefully you realize you just witnessed some of the best basketball, male or female, being played, especially if you saw both finals. Adoara Elonu got us going early, Danielle Adams and Tyra White provided most of the firepower, Sydney Carter gave her all on defense, while Maryann Baker and Karla Gilbert came off the bench to provide valuable minutes. Sydney Colson? She kept everything calm and flowing, just like me (lol). This was a team effort all season and I'll be adding things to the Aggies page over the next week.

HOUSTON LEGENDS-ADOARA & SYDNEY

Ultimate Memorial did a nice write up on your Houston representatives and I've always complained that our local media didn't do enough, so after I'm rested up, I'll do a full length on both. I know more people may have been  ENJOYING that thrilling UCONN vs Butler match-up, best nights sleep I've had in a long time, however if you watched the Women's Final Four, I doubt seriously if you yawned.

Kids who are out there playing, remember NEVER to give up, the game is played on the court. Baylor beat A&M three times, they couldn't beat them. Stanford was the only team to beat UCONN, they couldn't beat them. The Big East was the toughest conference in basketball, they couldn't beat Notre Dame, yet they did because all they did was WIN,WIN,WIN!

Final Four and Indiana Here I Come

In a couple of weeks, GPR will be back to normal however I am so elated and happy for me baby. I have some interesting stories coming up on Texas and it's talented players, but right now, it's about Sydney and A&M.  Here'a a great story about the backcourt and another on top point guards that might be drafted in the WNBA.  As I enjoy the ride, I want to give a special thanks to all those who have been supportive over the years, I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
