Basketball on the Bayou, some say Battle on the Bayou, but no matter what it's called or even if it's played in New Orleans or Birmingham, this has been one of the top tournaments in my book over the past seven years. We actually won it back in 2005 and some of my fondest memories of the years were watching the Paris sisters demolishing folks and a young Amber Harris throwing down highlight dunks during halftime. Several of the top programs in the country will be in attendance including Florida Essence, Georgia Ice, NY Exodus and of course, DFW Elite
DFW Elite has several major D1 players on their squad. Moriah Jefferson has verballed to Connecticut, Empress Davenport to Texas, while Courtney Walker, above, and Chelsea Jennings have given the nod to Texas A&M and game changers like Ashley Eli, below, will be naming their college choice in the near future.
After winning Boo Williams in April, DFW has been hit with the injury bug and although they are still a superb team, I just found out they have added Brianna Turner, the top player in the Class of 2014 for Battle on the Bayou and Nike Nationals. The addition of Turner is a definite shot in the arm as DFW is coming off two losses to the Fairfax Stars, one in pool play and the other in a nail biting championship game in the Nike Summer Showcase.
