Katy @ Hastings

The "Under The Spotlight" game was supposed to feature Westside @ Atascocita on the GPR website however that game was moved up and due to prior commitments, I couldn't make it. I did get a chance to peek in at Katy and Hastings, both teams having a common denominator in defeating Dulles by one point.

Dulles, btw, finished as consolation runner-up in the Ft Bend Tournament and I wanted to see this new look Hastings team since Marla Brumfield took over as head coach. I had no idea Hastings former coach, Bob Wall had stepped down, just as Doug Lechtenberger did at Dulles. These are two of the finest gentlemen I've encountered since my involvement and several great memories are forever embedded in my mind.

Marla Brumfield has played at every level. Her first taste of stardom came as a player for Elsik, well she was a star even before that, then she went on to play for Rice and later in the WNBA

Throughout the years, the Alief district has always had athletic kids and nothing has changed. Darian Page is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

Kibriyaa Roach-Caines provides that extra spark

Shanice Porter has great hands and finishes well

It will be interesting to see if either team can make the playoffs, both have uphill battles in front of them

On a senior dominated team, the future may be in the hands of sophomore Chelsea Oguagha

Courtney Cox is Katy's leading rebounder

Marley Brown is the leading scorer for Katy

Megan Jackman dropped a couple of deep ones in the first half for the Tigers
