Mustangs get it done as they head to state

Since Deauzya Richards and Ariana Whitfield arrived on campus, I knew that Cy Ranch had the potential to make a run. Joining established area stars like Sydney Coleman (TCU) and Cienna Rivera and the poise of those two freshmen as well as the amazing sophomore Rachel Tapps (UTEP), I felt this team could definitely make a run

Over the next three seasons, injuries played a big part on the Mustangs not advancing, in fact all of their D1 commits, including '18 D'Asia Collins who will be committing soon as well, had to nurse nagging injuries the past two seasons but this season, they not only stayed healthy but continued to improve.

Richards has elevated her game to more than just a scorer, in the quarter and semifinals, she flirted with triple doubles and solidified herself as being able to do everything I said she was when she was in the 7th grade. Whitfield's midrange game is one of the states best and believe me,that will be huge at the the next level and if you don't realize the importance of Collins then you need to Google "the game starts at the one" and get back with me

Big ups to Jayla Buster, a super athlete that can actually play basketball while she and Kween Jean just moved up the list on my Texas 2018 rankings. Jean at 6'2 showed she could definitely score in the Regional Finals but her rebounding and defense has definitely improved over the past few months and she made her presence felt

It ain't over for Ranch, the emergence of freshmen Shadiya Thomas who has that "never scared" mindset is definitely a player that has plenty of upside and will have multiple offers and I guess the biggest surprise for me was the play of sophomore Nia McWhite who caught my eye immediately by just making big plays at the right time

Cy Ranch vs Seven Lakes #Sweet16 #RoadToAustin

When I see Sydney Coleman and DiDi Richards running down the court for layups on passes from Cienna Rivera, Steve Miller's "Fly Like An Eagle" pops up, I know it's old Google it. Here's the deal, Richards was injured in freak accident but was instrumental in their win over Eisenhower. Rachel Tapps was done for the season, but she ain't DONE and neither are the Mustangs, especially since Arianna Whitfield has blossomed into one of the standout freshmen in the state,. Coleman, a TCU signee, and Rivera, a Louisana Lafayette signee, will be key to how far this team goes

Cydney Varner and Michelle Foakum have created problem all season for the Spartans who have found a way to regroup after graduating Christin Inman and Sydney Buchel from last season. Julia Bannister and Katy Keese are among others capable of going off

Coleman helps Cy Ranch advance past Eisenhower

Sydney Coleman played like there was no tomorrow and had her Mustangs team lost, that would be the case, well at least for high school. The TCU commit was everything I envisioned after watching her as a 7th grader as her 17 points and probably close to the same amount of rebounds were huge in their 52-39 victory. Eisenhower led 13-8 after one as Shequeria Debose was trying to send her own message because Debose was hurt during last seasons pregame warm-ups featuring these same two teams

I tweeted  Arianna Whitfield had turned a corner and I was talking both literally and figuratively as her improvement and ability to get to the rim from almost any angle was huge. Ranch was down 15-12 with four minutes left in half when she went to work offensively. Rachel Tapps, came in and did what she does and on a cold night the heat was  turned up on defense and by the time the half ended, Coleman had her double-double or was close to it and Ranch had the lead 22-17

In the third quarter Deauzya Richards came in and joined the act, Richards has been out with a bruised rib and hit some big baskets but it was a variety of Mustangs hitting big shots when needed. Whether it was Abby Davis or Madison Keating, someone other than Coleman got into the act but the game still starts at the one and Louisiana Lafayette signee Cienna Rivera was simply masterful at creating for her teammates as well as herself

Ike was without sharpshooter Sonerka White, she's another player capable of going off offensively. Debose led the Eagles with 14 followed by Jonisia Jackson's 10. White has been sidelined for over a month with a knee injury and her ability to stretch the defense was missed. With that being said, Jhavani Thompson't three late in the game cut the Ranch lead to three but Rivera to Coleman for a bucket, then Rivera with a steal and two free throws sealed it. Ranch moves on to play Seven Lakes in the next round

Cy Woods turns up heat in District 17 race

Move-in Tatyana Perez has been a huge plus for Cy Woods all season and her 18 points and numerous assists played a big part in their victory at Cy Ranch. The biggest part, 6'8 super soph Nancy Mulkey, didn't play because of an injury however Woods placed for player in double figures

The game started off slow and sluggish after Ranch freshman Deauzya Richards opened things up with a long three. Richards has been on an offensive tear and a couple of weeks ago dropped 37 in a game and on this night she led the Mustangs with 16 but this game could be described a number of ways. Like Perez, Ranch point guard Cienna Rivera made things happen as she got wherever she wanted to, creating basket opportunities for her or her teammates

After leading 12-11 after one, Woods stretched the lead to 9 at the half 26-17. Lead was sparked by none other than "Miss Excitement" Tyler Davis whose B2B threes shifted the momentum before the break. The third quarter started slow, the first points came on a Richards basket at 5:46 and when a Rivera steal and assist to Sydney Coleman cut the lead to 5, you could feel the momentum changing yet again.  Not so fast as it was EO time, and Erica Ogumike scored Woods first basket, almost three minutes into the quarter and scored 8 of their 16 in the third as Ranch got big baskets from Abby Davis and were down 42-34 going into the stretch

Woods won 65-46 but this was still a game halfway through the final quarter as Ranch was still by 8. Tyler Davis dropped her third three along with some clutch free throws to finish with 13, while Gbemi Orudami and Ogwumike added 12 each. It's not how you start , it's how you finish and this game got cooking which is what I expected from two of the best teams in the best district. Showdown next Tuesday has Woods against Cy Fair at Berry Center as the race tightens even more

Cy Ranch travels to Ike and I'm thinking last season "What If "

When you talk about bad luck and injuries, the Cy Ranch Mustangs immediately come to mind and when you lose key players, well that create problems as far as the season goes. Last season, they were without Sydney Coleman, who tore her knee not long after their FBISD title, then injuries late in the season to Kara Cezar and Ashley O'Block sort of set the tone on how it would end and that happened to be in the second round against Bellaire

I play back the first round in my head when the Mustangs played Eisenhower at Campbell Center and starting point guard Shaquerio Debose rolled her ankle, during the pregame warm-ups and here's the question of the day, where does the game start? Tonight it's a rematch at Ike and Ranch is coming off an impressive Katy Nike Classic victory and did they did it with Cezar, DiDi Richards and GPR UTR Rachel Tapps all sitting from the sideline

Here's tonight's schedule but remember, always double check

Always verify before attending games

I love hollering TEEEEEEEECEEEEEEEE at games because I think it irritates Sydney Coleman's younger sister and sometimes I just things to humor myself. I'm not humored by bad information, last night the Chronicle had Spring at Dekaney, well fortunately I had talked to some parents and they told me the game was at Spring. This type of stuff truly irritates the _____ out of me, especially when college coaches call and say they are looking for a particular game to attend

I've been complaining about this for years, along with wrong games times and had I not known who played on The Woodlands and College Park teams, that score from last night would have been the upset of the year. We all make mistakes, hey I have typos all the time, however I don't get paid to blog this stuff. I take the time to place links on this and that so the bottom line is this,  I can only provide the information that's out there TEEEEEEEEEEEECEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

No need to Cy for Ranch as they could still make run

Talk about a team with bad luck and Cy Ranch definitely comes to mind. This could have conceivably been there year, even more that last season with the addition of DiDi Richards and Ariana Whitfield, two high powered freshmen, Rachel Tapps and Taylor Hunter moving up to varsity as sophomores and a healthy Ashley O'Block and Sydney Coleman. Well Hunter left and O'Block gave it up for health reasons. Kara Cezar was injured in the preseason and for the Katy Nike Classic, Tapps and Richards were out for the semi's

Even with all that, Cy Ranch won the Katy Nike Classic to go along with an SBISD championship and 4th in the FBISD. Ironically they avenged the loss to Langham Creek in that same FBISD tourney in the semi's of the Katy Nike Classic, blah, blah, blah

Can they get to state? Well they have to be healthy, but that goes for everyone else and again, in a game playoff, it generally boils down to who wants it more and I know the Mustangs not only want it, they believe they can do it. Huge ups to Whitfield for going off for 20, if they're healthy, that's quite a few players capable of putting up numbers and if everyone is clicking, like a Timex they've taken their licking while they keep on ticking, hopefully no trademark infringement occurred

2013 Katy Nike Classic All Tournament

It's always going to be someone making dumb statements, anonymously of course, however  always remember if I don't have the information, what am I supposed to do? With that being said, here's another picture of TCU signee Sydney Coleman because when you help lead your team to the championship in the Katy Nike Classic, named MVP, have my initials and do it on your birthday, well pictures galore are coming. Seriously I love it when players battle back through adversity and Coleman going out with a knee injury last season basically killed any chance Cy Ranch had of representing R3. She's healthy and even though others are down, Rachel Tapps, DiDi Richards and Kara Cezar, all will be back. Also a special s/o to Louisiana Lafayette signee Cienna Rivera for, check this, 11 pts, 7 reb and 11 ast which left her 3 reb shy of a triple double

As far as all tourney, this is what I have

Sydney Coleman Cy Ranch MVP
Cienna Rivera  Cy Ranch
Arianna Whitfield Cy Ranch
Ekiyah Gray Klein Forest
Jeliah Preston Klein Forest

Cy Ranch runs into three scare Saturday in #FBISDTournament

One thing talented teams want and that is to be tested early and let me say this about Katy Taylor and Bush, in a one game playoff, anything can happen, trust me on that, I've seen some interesting things over the years and it's not always the best team, but the best team that game. I'm using those two as an example because both took Cy Ranch to the limits, Katy Taylor earlier in the second round and Bush in an OMG thriller that closed the night out

Okay that's two scares but the third came when TCU signee Sydney Coleman went down in the third quarter. Coleman is coming back from a knee injury she sustained last season which thwarted not only the Mustangs district title hopes but that 290W run as well

Didn't see the first game but Crystal Chidomere went off again, UTSA was there to see what they'll be looking at the next four seasons and Louisana Lafayette will be there today to see Cienna Rivera setting her teammates up with precision. That was really a good game, probably the best I've seen in the area so far this season and next week. Next week, guess what hit's the fan at the Texas Invitational? Keep reading!

Cy Ranch overpowers Westfield in opening round of #FBISDTournament

Westfield has a lot of fight and are off to a good start however you have a handful of teams, okay maybe two handfuls that have a shot at getting out of here and just like players who go on to play at different levels in college, the same applied with teams and Cy Ranch happens to be among the best of the best in this area and after this tournament, maybe the state. Those high flying young ladies, DiDi Richards and Sydney Coleman, are just off to a tremendous start and what I'm getting from the youngsters, Richards, Rachel Tapps and Arriana Whitfield, who comes in early off the bench is that they all truly think they can get out of here

I'm sure Cienna Rivera believes it, hey after they knocked off San Antonio Johnson is this very tournament last season I thought they had a shot but losing Sydney Coleman simply did it and always say, you can't lose an SC, imagine if I stop doing what I do. I already told yall how this was going to play out, this team, if they stay healthy, is one of around six to eight teams that can and will make a run

Westfield's Precious Cross came up to me and asked did I remember her and I responded "yeah you owe me some money" and trust me, that's going to work one day. After she told me her name, I did remember because as I said in the story, she was virtually unstoppable, read more

With Cross and EJ Bryant putting in the work on the inside and along with several other talented players like sophomore Deja Keys, this game meant absolutely nothing to me, Cy Ranch is just better, the thing I enjoyed was Westfield fought to very end and that's what it's supposed to be about. I'll catch them later. In the battle of the Mustangs, one team ran faster but the main thing is that they both ran until it was over. Top that!

SBISD opens with few surprises

No crystal ball needed for this one, Cy Falls will play Cy Ranch for the SBISD championship tomorrow at high noon after each go through the formality of playing two games today. Ranch looks a lot better than they did at The Last Run and based on what I saw, I can see why DiDi Richards wanted me to hold off on crowning Cy Woods district champ. Richards is playing huge so far this season and I'm pretty sure being a freshman hasn't fazed her one bit. Even better news is that Sydney Coleman is playing like nothing after happened, she's more fluid and confident than when I saw her earlier. Those two played huge dividends yesterday as they ran the floor while Cienna Rivera was hitting them wit pinpoint passes for countless breakaways and when you through in the fact that the whole team was in sync, they're going to create some problems, especially when you have someone like Rachel Tapps igniting the defense

Cy Falls looked real good early however in the best game of the day, they narrowly got by Klein Forest who played without starters Ebony Parker and Regina Scott and Ekiyah Gray went out late in the game with leg cramps and the offense fizzled away. I'll say this, Klein Forest looked a lot better than opening night against Eisenhower, they have some hungry players who are not afraid to step into the spotlight. Gray at times was simply unstoppable and I truly don''t believe there are 15 players in the area that are better. Falls' Quay Cleveland is putting up numbers early and the addition of Jae Branch gives them some of the best young talent in the area to keep the momentum going as they won't stumbling anytime soon. Ashley Caldwell keeps getting better and I don't think she realizes yet but she's a triple double waiting to happen

I'll revisit day one down the road as I get ready to do just that, OUT!!!!!!

Three area Tournaments

Rachel Tapps is ready to get wrapped up at Cy Ranch as the Mustangs defend their SBISD title. The 2016 GPR Under The Radar player is making some noise and she's learning quite a bit from a couple of seniors that are about to sign, Cienna Rivera (Louisiana Lafayette) and Sydney Coleman (TCU). I'm thinking the Mustangs are the favorites but I'm sure Cy Falls and Klein Forest will have something to say about it starting tomorrow

The Lady Gander Tip-Off and Conroe Tournament begins tomorrow as well and this is perfect for me as I'll catch SBISD tomorrow and the Conroe finals on my way back from Dallas Saturday morning. Thanks everyone for sending me the brackets and I've posted them under the EVENTS section on girlzprepreport.com

SBISD Tournament packing star power as Coleman commits

Sydney Coleman has "the pose" down to a tee and after her weekend commitment to TCU, that's also taken care of as she's another "can't miss" seventh grader I expected big things from. Coleman is one of many stars for Cy Ranch that will be showcasing their talents at the SBISD Tournament next week and the Mustangs are also one of the contenders in R3 that have a shot at making it to Austin

Klein Forest, one of the favorites in area R2, along with last seasons 4A-F4 rep Lamar Consolidated

Big Three ready for run at SBISD Nov 7-9

The Big Three from Klein Forest is ready for their final run, in fact they were runner-up at the SBISD last season but wait

Cienna Rivera and Co won it last season and are ready to do some damage, especially with a healthy Sydney Coleman and Ashley O'Block, not to mention super sophs Rachel Tapps and Taylor Hunter plus those fabulous freshmen, DD Richards and Ariana Whitfield

Uh oh, Richards and Coleman are getting ready right now

Cy Ranch battles through injuries at The Last Run

Kara Cezar, Sydney Coleman and Ashley O'Block had second half season ending injuries and that cost the Mustangs a legitimate shot at getting out of here. If they stay healthy, those three, along with Cienna Rivera (Louisiana Lafaayette) and the improvement of both Taylor Hunter and Rachel Tapps gives them a shot

But wait, how about throwing in that dynamic freshmen duo of DiDi Richards and Ariana Whitfield and you know someone will be there to lend a helping hand. Cy Ranch ain't moving out of the Top 5 if they stay healthy which they weren't completely themselves after the first day, but the season is young

Cy Ranch stars still working after 40/40 #AutoAwesome

One thing I like is players giving me their opinions especially when thy are articulate and make a reasonable case. I said Cy Woods was the team to beat and Sydney Coleman gave me her opinion and why I might not want to make a hasty decision a few months ago. Then Deauzya Richards broke it down from her perspective on who had been injured, who was moving up and the freshmen that were going to contribute, she happens to be a freshman, so as you can see, the senior and the baby are still working and even more important I found out these photos are called Auto Awesome, thanks Google+

Another Oklahoma team Showcases talent at Flava

I've enjoyed watching Oklahoma teams since way back in 2004 when I watched Earnesia Williams (Texas) and Danielle Gant (Texas A&M) battle Marissa Coleman's squad at AAU Nationals in Virginia Beach. Since then several players from the state have gone on to do remarkable things and of course, Oklahoma is loaded with talent

Alexis Mbroh made a Tip Sheet and London Archer could have easily made one as well because at 6'3, her athleticism enables to block and rebound at a remarkable rate, not to mention she has nice moves in the paint. Talk about athleticism, how about Sydney Chastain changing hands while hanging in the air for baskets, this isn't a common sighting on the girls side

Kaci Richardson, Shilah Young and Maci Exum were sometimes overpowering in the paint, all three are 5'11 and Richardson can even put it on the floor and also sees the floor well. Throw in the fact that Mbroh, Tamera Shaver and Ashley Gomez can all shoot the three, in fact Gomez might have had one of the highest percentages at Big State Flava. The bottom line is this team filled with 2016s is solid and they showed it
