It's Early Folks

It appears Cy Fair is still the best team in the city, after all they have the Number 1 player in the country, Chiney Ogwumike, who I consider the most complete player to come out of Houston. The good news for many Houston area teams is Cy Fair's in Region 2 and if they do make it to Austin, it will be Chiney's fourth consecutive trip. Okay, now everyone should be in agreement on who the best team in the city is however several have different opinions on who has the best team in Region 3.

Jeff Coward of Texasgirlsbasketball.com wrote an excellent article on North Shore http://www.texasgirlsbasketball.com/info/stampede(NorthShorezMustangs)2009-10.html

Many folks feel Hightower is the best team and although I think Hightower is a very good team, I believe North Shore is better because along with being a very good team, they have a kid who is capable of dropping 30 on any given night, Courtney Williams, something Hightower lacks.

There are many other teams like Elsik, Katy Taylor and Cinco Ranch that have a chance to make a run. I am more surprised with Alief Taylor, Bellaire and Fort Bend Austin, who lost by only two against Hightower in the Fort Bend Tournament and is led by super-soph Nicole Blaskowsky. I knew Bellaire's fate would rest in the hands of freshman point guard AJ Alix, shooting free throw, and she has accepted the challenge

The season is about to start the second quarter and I haven't seen some of the other teams who could make a run in this wide open region. Always remember that once you get in the playoffs, you only need to be the best team in that game.
