Westside duo help bring Showtyme to Hoopfest

Sentreal Gregory and Madisen Turner helped Westsdie make a fantastic run at the end of last season as they were two points away from the E8. Now, the talented freshman and sophomore are ready to take the show on the road with HIO Showtyme. Both have showed that they are among the top players in their class and with promising players like Tierra Robinson and Tenise Burns, they could make some noise this summer

Austin Elite Black continues to roll

Austin Elite Black's Maddie Anderson superlative weekend earned her a spot on my upcoming Tip Sheet but there were several others in the running

Hoopstarz Sims goes into beast mode at Hoopfest

Let me take you back about 10 years ago, my daughter was a freshman at Westside and we were playing in the Lovelady Holiday Tournament which happened to be on Thanksgiving weekend. Their second round opponent happened to be Bryan and that was one of the most exciting games I'd witnessed in my life at the time. Westisde lost 89-86, no OT's baby as it was up and down, baseline to baseline action that had the gym literally rocking.

I said that to say this, Bryan has always put out exceptional players over the years that played hard and never quit and it appears nothing has changed as the Bryan Lady Hoopstarz brought a couple of teams down to the Insiders Hoopfest and showed they are still buying into the philosophy that will always work

Over the years, Alex Sims has shown that you are not going to outwork her on the court. The first time I saw her as a freshman, she was raw is the best way to put it but when you have a work ethic like she showed, not to mention an older sister playing at Lamar, certain things more times than not will fall into place.

She's still a hard worker and the skills have definitely improved as she is a legitimate threat on both ends of the court. That, along with the ability to face the basket and nail the 10-15 footers shows that if you put in the time, it will pay off at the end of the day, well game.

Still Phenomenal at Hoopfest

I was overly impressed when I saw Essence Johnson play for Kashmere last season and with no rosters on Max Preps, I asked one of their coaches to email it to me explaining who I was and what I did. I'm still waiting however it's always good to associate a name with a player who has game and Johnson joins a talented group of young ladies that simply blew me away last season.

Deijah Sonier is still dropping bombs from everywhere, Ashley Dickson is ahead of schedule after an injury during the school year and Kenechi Udechime, Lamycia Hamilton and Madison Shelton have all shown tremendous improvement as the Lady Houston Phenoms are still blowing me away.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Shannon Jones, well actually I didn't and neither will you as she has taken her game to another level. She's also one of the top 2016 players in Texas and with all of that being said, she's made the Tip Sheet Thursday list for sure

No "Tip Sheet" Tuesday

I recall my older daughter being around four or five and she was upset because her siblings were annoying her. After telling me what they did, I gathered them all together and her story changed. I questioned her about and she said "well I changed my mind." Okay I'm changing my mind as well and we'll do Tip Sheet Thursday instead, that still works because of the TST and as Sydney Coleman is signaling, I'll stop the presses on that

I do things a little different and when I cover an event, I cover an event top to bottom and I'm going to be honest, I've probably narrowed the list, well lists since I'm doing HS and pre HS, to about 100 . This tournament was no joke and from the fifth graders like DFW Elite's Mikayla Patterson, yes that's Chasity's little sister  to seniors like Sports Vision's Tierra Riley, there was a variety of everything

Here's a footnote for you

While the Patterson sisters will be keeping me entertained on the court over the next few years, their f\dad will do the same off the court and make sure I don't doze off lol

"Rebels With A Cause" prove several points at Hoopfest

The Katy Rebels have several teams rolling throughout their organization and you can always count on them having several players that can play at the next level. This years Rebels-Floyd team is scrappy and very exciting because they fight until the very end and their fight go them to the finals of the NCAA division at the Insiders Hoopfest

Cailin S and Ashley Lynch put up numbers throughout the tournament while Ashley Ford and Anna Jackson came up with big games as well. Ford hopes to join older sister Eboni at the next level one day and based on what I saw, several of these young ladies have a shot to do just that

Scott more than great for DFW Elite 2019

There's an old saying I've often heard and it's "seeing is believing." I have one even better," if I tell you, you need to listen." No matter how arrogant some of my statements might sound, they are for shock purposes only but believe me, Elizabeth Scott will be receiving plenty of attention before it's all said and done.

I'm just speechless about the BB IQ some of these sixth graders have and Scott's ability to dominate on both ends was truly a joy to watch over the weekend. I won't tell you how bright her future is, but I will tell you to get some sunglasses because you will be needing them

Houston Lady Dominators bring high energy to Hoopfest

When you have players that can bring heat on one side, you better have some that can cool them off on the other and one thing the Dominators do very well is bring the heat and I'm talking multiple positions. With Deja Hughes moving too fast for camera, her game has improved every time I've watcher her over the past two seasons but we'll break her game down along with team after these messages and when I say we, I mean me, more to come

No ordinary Hybrid

Another talented group of middle school players would be Hybrid Hoops and although they are made up of young ladies from the 2018 and 2019 classes, they are legit. Kalari Clark and D'Asia Collins are only two of the bright young stars you'll be reading a lot about from this team, but this ain't the story, I just liked the picture. More on this talented of young ladies and their performance at the #hoopfest is coming so stay tuned.

Several to choose from on Houston Choice

Asia and Shania Woods are a year apart so I'm sure me calling the twins all tournament probably had them thinking all sorts of things however whatever I'm limited in, it's made up on evaluating talent and these young ladies have a chance to do serious damage at Cy Fair next season and also the next level after they graduate.

Blessed with size along with a great work ethic and comprehending the actual game, they were two of the keys to their Houston Choice squad winning second place in the NCAA Division as they made their presence felt. I caught older sister Shania during a tournament last season and was totally impressed with her skill level and she was simply dominant during several games

Several young ladies stood out and speaking of keys and sisters, how about Khale Chandler taking her game to another level adding a little flair and acrobatics to her repertoire as she got to hole with ease along with hitting a few mid-range jumpers with ease. Khale is the younger sister of former Cy Fair and current George Washington player Alexis Chandler. Oh yeah, more to come
