HBU hosts Sam Houston

Come rain or sun or sleet or snow, I gave my word so I must go. It's cold outside but they play inside so I'm headed to HBU to see them take on Sam Houston. I haven't forgotten about the freshmen of the holiday tournaments, I forget nothing! Where am I going again?

Cleveland and Mackey explode in district match-up

Qay Cleveland continues to grow and after a solid summer and finally being cleared for varsity at Cy Falls, she is coming into her own. She and Jersey Villages Brynae Thompson are two of the top sophomores in the area and after playing in middle school together, they find themselves going at it

JV fell behind by double digits, much to do with turnovers, mainly Thompson getting in foul trouble however a three by Bianca Sernna with a little over three minutes left gave the Falcons their first lead of the game at 29-28. Those last three minutes of the game however killed the momentum as CF went on a 13-2 run, fueled by Cleveland and Cierra Mackey as they won 69-46

Cleveland led all scorers with 18 and was 12-12 from the free throw line while Mackey scored 15 including seven in the third quarter, she can Cleveland combined 15 in that quarter alone and Jasmine Green added 10. Thompson scored 16 points to lead JV but Jersey Village

Aledo still handing out Justis without Dry

Okay I was hoping to see Texas commit Alyssa Dry play during the Mansfield Rotary Tournament because I really haven't had a chance to see the young lady go to work like I'm hearing she could do but she was out with an ankle sprain. Nevertheless this Aledo team really did impress me on day one after they knocked off South Grand Prairie

Let's start off with all-tournament selection Justis Szczepanski-Beavers who created quite a stir when she moved down to Houston last season and made her presence felt. After watching her play that initial time last season, I had seen  enough and the progression she has made is even ahead of where I anticipated. This kid young lady is handling the ball like a guard at 6'4 and I'm talking C2C and fluidly, so add that with her dominance in the paint in the paint on both ends, well.......

Kaylee Black was showed her ability to shoot the three and  I was also impressed with several Ladycats including Breann Forbes, Mallory Powell and Megan Wood. SGP was a solid team and Aledo turned the heat on and opened that one up on their way to a 7th place finish defeating Har-Ber 55-51

Arkansas team impressive at Mansfield Rotary

Samantha Weber (free throw) and Caylee Wright

The first surprise of my holiday trip last week happened when Har-Ber defeated San Antonio Wagner. I hadn't seen the Arkansas team but I caught a glimpse of Wagner so calling this an upset may be overstating it somewhat. On one of the first plays of the game, Samantha Weber threw a pass the length of the court on the money to her teammate, well sort of because it went over her outstretched hands for a turnover but even though she made that mistake, the poise in which she did it let me know I need to keep my eyes on her and  she didn't disappoint. Neither did Caylee Wright who filled up the stat sheet and caused havoc on defense. Those two, along with Haley McCarver, Tayleah Neal and Bailey Schalk helped Har-Ber to an 8th place finish and Wright was named to all tournament team

Holiday tournaments - the youngstas are coming

Jordan Stover has landed nicely into the starting point guard spot at Cedar Hill as a freshman and after watching her perform exceptionally well with DFW Elite, this comes as no surprise. Stover is only one of many "Fantastic Freshmen" I had a chance to watch last week and that's coming up later today

Who's gonna go in Region 4?

Wagner looked pretty impressive when they came to Houston and although they started off rocky, they won the consolation round of the Mansfield Rotary. After all they have one of the best 2013 posts in the state and one of the best guards in the 2016 class not to mention several pieces that fit well in between. with all that being said, I may have seen a team that's ahead of the pack in R4, read more

Fullcourt Texas holiday tip-sheet

Roshunda Johnson from Arkansas does it, so does Texas own Brianna Hayden and can't miss Di Di Richards. It's called "the pose" and evidently they are doing everywhere as Overton TN star Amber Holmes get's in on the act. That isn't the only act she's apart of as she made the Texas Holiday Ten I did for Fullcourt.com, read more

District 7-toughest in the state

The title says it all but it's always good to have a formula on why. Duncanville and Timberview came down and won a couple of area majors, the TI and Katy Nike Classic. In the holiday majors, Cedar Hill and Timberview were 1 and 2 while in the Sandra Madows Classic, Duncanville and Desoto were 1 and 3. Five of the top spots between the two biggest tournaments in the state fgo to teams from District 7, read more

Reasons why Duncanville

In the title game, Duncanville defeated Plano West 64-32 and even I know that was an anomaly. I mean let's face it, PW went 5 OT's in "The Game" and struggled offensively in the semis against Desoto where those threes just weren't falling the night before, what's the saying, no legs. Plano West also lost to the Pantherettes by 6 earlier this season and is the only team to beat them over the past two

Anomaly or not, I know the areas top two teams were defeated by an average margin of over 30 points in Austin last season and if this team is better and I do believe they might be, here's why

Boyce hopes to make Rosehill Christian the choice

There are many ways to describe players who are offensive machines. You have shooters, those who are left open can make you pay dearly and if they have the ability to create, that's an added plus. You also have scorers and I consider that type of player as one who just finds a way to put the ball in the hole.

When you combine all of those ingredients, you'll come up with a player like Rosehill Christian's Jordan Boyce who has been amazing during the span I've watched her over the summers

Need a three, well she's dropped a ton of them like what the temperature was doing when I headed up I-45 last week . She also has had games under her belt where she has made ten and quite a few where she was close to double digits, which is another impressive feat to add to her resume.

Not only is she an All State performer for Rosehill, she's also been named to the state's All Final Four squad., this season she's averaging over 18 ppg, but get this, over the last five games she's scoring over 30 ppg.

The unsigned Boyce has been added to the "Under The Radar" list however with the ability to score almost at will, she won't be around long.
