The great thing for me is finding that diamond in the rough and I caught Dannia Gonzalez playing with her Shooting For Success club team in the SYE Tournament I covered in  San Antonio. My plans were to leave the tournament early and try and make my family reunion in Louisiana but after seeing Gonzalez and thinking about the drive to get there for the closing ceremonies, well let's just say I was more intrigued with her drive and hit the midrange. The 2017 Under The Radar guard is continuing making her presence felt as she's one of the reasons her Alexander Bulldogs team is trying to making a district title run

Darria Gonzalez closes out HS career wit a bang #GPRUnderTheRadar

Dannia Gonzalez is just one of those players that gets the job done and I noticed that the first time I saw her play four years ago and even though it was only for a few minutes, I knew this young lady had the potential to play at the next level. Over the years, she grew, got stronger and added even more to her already impressive game which translated into success over both her HS & club ball career where the awards just kept adding up. At Alexander HS in Laredo, she became the first basketball player, boy or girl, to help lead her to team four consecutive district, bi-district and area titles as well as making appearances to regionals in each of those four season

I saw the potential in Dannia Gonzalez a few seasons ago and as I always tell people when you find players that comprehend the game and play within their game, everything will fall into place and fall is the key word as in baskets as the Alexander star was named Laredo Morning Times "Offensive Player Of The Year" this past season

Every year, I've seen this young lady work on something different and the progression she continues to make shows her hard is paying off and after a solid showing in April for Sophia Young Elite Black, colleges are taking notice.
