K5 Elite #SimmieColsonClassic 6th Grade Division

 

I can always count on getting a heads-up from Omar Sneed about up-and-coming talent from around the Beaumont area. Sneed is a former professional basketball player and now a D1 college coach so he and I go way back and before you say how far? 

How about 2018 when I first saw his daughter Kendall Sneed and  I dropped that #D1Lock on her shortly after, I keep receipts, she's playing for Tulane but not just playing, she was named Freshman Of The Year in her conference

Omar gave me a heads up about K5, Kendall's team and I've already dropped a couple of players from the 2031 class Terraji Johnson and Abblynn Balderas on Prep Girls Hoops as they're already on my 2031 Watchlist but how about some others from that class. Kassidy Sumbler, Elizabeth Amlalo, and Grayson Cooper are all athletic guards who applied "on the ball" heat and showed they could score off the dribble but a couple of 2030's will be on the PGH Watchlist for their class

Kimora West, pictured above, is not only tall but "long and athletic" which is the base. Her timing was nice, she dove on the floor for loose balls but watching her go AFTA everything off the rim and play the passing lane was enough. Then she showed she could score around the basket as well as off the dribble

Jordan Joubert is close to having that #D1Lock dropped on her, peep this, she's vocal on the court, something many guards heading to college don't do, and watching her direct traffic blew me away. Her BB-IQ is off the chart, she saw the floor through a microscope but alas, she's a long and athletic guard and that too is the base. She has the HEZ, the STUTTA, and a variety of other moves to get to the rim but those BIG GIRL PASSES JUST DID IT FOR ME

2018 Austin Elite #TJShowcase MS Tip Sheet

Talk about some up and coming talented players in Texas, several just made me smile as I sat back and enjoyed two days of action at the Tyrone Johnson Showcase hosted by Austin Elite so let me start off with some of the middle school and younger standouts. Keep in mind BCS Locks Sammy Wagner and 

Kendall Sneed (Texas Storm) the long ponytail and ability to get to the basket and finish with contact immediately brought back memories of my own daughter but Sneed just left me speechless at times because she scored numerous ways, handled the ball under pressure and showed plenty of poise

Kenna Gibson (HTX Fire 2022) she hit a deep one as I was passing by, she hit another one as I came back and it seemed like every game I watched her, she was dropping the long ball, both days in all of the games. Accurate and can catch and shoot, that's huge

Carleigh Wenzel (SA Finest) HS "be a ready" because this young lady is going to make an immediate impact with her picture perfect jumper. I was on the other end taking a selfie and saw the form and knew it was her, awe man and didn't I call her a BCS Lock, yes I did

Mia Jiminez (SA Lady Hoops) dropped something on the quad that attended the camp but this squad is pretty well rounded and Jiminez adds a little something each time I've caught her. Takes defenders off dribble, nice floater or can mix it up with mid to long range

Cindy Foka (Phoenix) good size and agility, powerful inside and battled for everything off the glass and on the floor. Showed good defense and better upside as she already understands how to ignite the break and run the floor

LA Sneed (SA Finest) explosive guard that simply makes things happen every-time she touches the ball and is one of those "makes teammates better" types. Sees the floor extremely well, great handle  with the ability to dazzle, nice mid to long shooting, huge upside

Jordan Washington ( Phoenix) playing up and I'd have never known and I'm talking 2 or 3 years up. Very knowledgeable which I love to see, doesn't phased, I love that too and gives and receives pressure as she can finish with contact and see the floor nicely

Laney Elmore (Waco Elite Blue) plays beyond her years, already gets it and is on the right track. Attacks basket strong from various angles but her ability to create her shot, under pressure and knock it down is big

Leila Curtis( SAF Camille) explosive off the dribble, attacks relentlessly and scores multiple ways including taking the lick

Loghan Johnson ( Katy Rebels 2023 King) upside is scary, she's athletic, plays passing lane and can defend baseline to baseline plus she handles the ball in the open court and gets to the basket easily and can finish acrobatically

Naujaneete Haynes (SAF Camille) strong finisher, strong rebounder, strong defender so what does that tell you. Never takes a play off, explodes off the ground

Avari Berry (AD Elite 2023) so many talented guards throughout their organization, lets just say Berry is on her way to being ripe as she has an explosive first step, finishes and that combined with a nice pull-up is "ALL DAY" lol I had to but she plays the passing lane as well

Sammie Wagner( SA Finest) I don't even know what to say other than just keeps elevating game from #BCSLock I called her a couple of years ago and she's only a 2023. Physical and Finesse, either way you want it, she can give it with ease

Domnica Armstrong (ATX Fierce) handles the ball nicely and sees the floor, hasn't made it to MS yet so that in itself has her in the mix but what I also saw was she understands the simple things and plays within herself so all of that tells me a lot

Shaviant'a Cobb (Waco United Lady Panthers 2022) floater like a butterfly yet she can sting like a bee and I know that's over many heads just like Cobb's floater. Love how she gets to the basket and just puts the ball in, nice midrane and good upside

Yulissa Yebra (SA Lady Hoops 2023) I use "size don't matter when you can play" a whole lot and it certainly matters when you can. Yebra just keeps bringing it, the more I see her, the more I see more and becoming more fluid is showing as well as rebounding on both ends and finishing strong

Amanda Crowninshield ( Texas Elite 2022 Silver) talented PG that understands how to get talented teammates involved. Already showing confidence in her abilities, sees floor, makes pinpoint passes on the money and ca take over offensively

Creerith Plummer (Defenders & DND Elite) played on two different teams and put in work for both, it ain't the squad it's what's in the player, been doing this forever so I already that some thing you can't teach and this young lady's work ethic is "old school" like I like to see. She is showing BEAST-LIKE signs already, battles for everything, finishes strong, huge upside

Early look at 2025 group around Texas

I love this picture, I've explained numerous times that I'm a VISUAL person and although I respect other people and their opinions, ranging from politics to evaluating talent, that has nothing to do with what I think and for 60 years it's worked for me, says the man who has been married 9 times. Maybe that doesn't register but what does register is what you do on the court and I've had a chance to see many young players in middle school numerous times and here are TEN of the TOP 2025 players, in no particular order, that I have personally seen in the past few months and have shown me, it's not what you do, it's who you do it against so please don't send me what someone said or any irrelevant nonsense like stats or efficiency ratings

After seeing Sarah Andrews, Deja Kelly, Jordan Merritt and Deyonna Gaston just to name a few, I knew 2020 was going to be a force to be reckoned with and having a chance to eclipse maybe the best class I saw, 2005 and if you weren't around, your opinion has no value or validity so there you have that and the sad part about it is that if you haven't seen the REAL product, well let me put another way, I've always been a straight shooter, never used one so I sort of know

I'm dropping a Tip Sheet of some 2020 players I saw at Pass Tha Ball's Diamond in The Rough, 24 to be exact but to show how prophetic I am in this, being in MENSA doesn't translate to knowing talent or maybe it does for me but Arrianna Sturdivant did enough to be on my Skilled Up HS Tip Sheet, she's a 2020 and her sister, Andrea, simply blew me away as she'll be on the MS edition, she's a 2025 and what she and LA Sneed did, also a 2025 has my mind clicking about that year already because you know I don't turn my back on TALENT

2022 & 2023 GPR Watch List

I'll break down some of the 2017-2020 players who were in the house later during the week however just because a player is in the third or fourth grade, a keen eye can see and evaluate where they are and how they should progress. From my own daughters, to Kelsey Bone, Fallon Ellis and even Maddisen Turner, I've been around long enough to know how and what those younger than 10 years old should be doing

Houston Area 2024 Watch List

I was watching my daughter, Sydney Colson, play in the 2011 NCAA Final Four yesterday as her Texas A&M team beat Stanford in the semifinals and for those of you who don't know or didn't realize was that four players from Houston were playing, Colson, Adoara Elonu (Texas A&M)  as well as Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford) and all play or have played in the WNBA. The crazy part is our local paper, the Chronicle, had no one there covering the event, I know, it's just WBB yet it also shows the ignorance associated with it from the area

Let me also add another tidbit of information to try and put things in perspective, some of you will get, most want because you're probably listening to an idiot that has ulterior motives but peep this, in 2007 Sydney Colson and Karima Christmas, 2008 Nneka Ogwumike and Briana Gilbreath, 2009 Kelsey Bone and Brittany Griner and in 2010 Chiney Ogwumike graduated from high school and all played in the WNBA after college and it wasn't until last year that players from Houston, Brianna Turner and Brooke McCarty made a squad so if someone tells you the talent now is what it was, they're lying or clueless, it is not the same as far as depth but there are still some very talented players out there and many will play at college and beyond, it's just not as deep

Fast forward to now, I get a kick out of watching the young talent around the state, I don't leave as much as I used to because I already know where the bar has been set after doing this on my own for over a decade and truly observing for 20 years so when I make a statement about a  young player being a #D1Lock,  I'm on the money and I haven't been wrong since I started doing it and there are several talented players in the area in the  2024 Class I will be keeping an eye on.

Some I've even crowned #BCSLock like Gwendlynn McGrew and with that being said, you can throw away the key but I'll be observing the progression of many young ladies who have already shown me they will be playing somewhere at the next level and here we go with a dozen right now, in no particular order, I'll add more providing I have complete rosters and you happen to be where I'll be. always check here
