2015 Rice Camp featuring several stars

I charged up multiple batteries for a reason, first of all 2019 standout Reagan Montgomery is making the trip down for the Rice Camp which starts at 10am today as she along with several other stars that are ready to showcase their skills. 2016 Angela Wadley, 2017 Laura Daulton and 2018 are among others who will be in attendance as well as 2018 Rayven Patin who is rolling in here from Louisiana, Patin is one of the top point guards in Louisiana, all classes,  so be ready

2015 Tyrone Johnson Showcase ready for action

Yeah Stretch is stretching and Tia Hawkins is getting mentally prepared but one thing is for certain, they along with their Austin Elite RFW teammates are ready for whatever as the top division, Jene Carter features some heavy hitters. RFW is loaded, well so are the Waco Lady Panthers featuring Benson and Benson but it doesn't stop there as DFW Elite Gold ain't playing despite their youth

Texas 2016 standout Faith Cook commits

When I use the search bar and play back what I've written about many of these talented players I sometimes get misty eyed because another chapter is about to close on a talented group of players I've been watching a long time. I saw Faith Cook first play when she was in the 6th grade and knew she had special gifts you can't teach and I  actually caught her dropping 40 in a middle school game the following year, she's one of a few I've had a chance to see duplicating that feat in high school but her being a D1 player was set in stone that initial sighting simply because of her basketball IQ, defense, work ethic and I guess NBA range even back ten didn't hurt but reminisce about the talented young lady who has committed to UTEP read more 


I asked Faith a few questions and she's as articulate off the court as she is on it

Why did you choose UTEP? "I think the school fits me and the style of game I play" said Cook

What do you actually like about the school? Cook replied " coaching staff and their academics along with the El Paso environment. They have great support and love from their city"

I then asked Faith what her goals were at UTEP and without even hesitating she gave me the answer I expected "to win CHAMPIONSHIPS"

I've tweeted and did stories numerous time on " you gotta have Faith" well the Miners certainly do and I do too because with her mindset along with the talented group they've signed, it's going to be some exciting ball in El Paso

Clutch City Tip Sheet #PrimeTime

Last weekends Prime Time tournament gave me a glimpse of even more talented young players that will be entering high school if not next year, within the next couple so it's always good to see the talent continuing to flow. I don't if everyone realizes that I really don't watch scores, I write that almost weekly and at some point it should register but my primary goal is to find players that can play at the next level. Lady Chaos brought a couple of teams down to the event from Louisiana, I didn't know everyone's name when they were here last month but they definitely have some talent as they won 6/7 and 9/10 grades. Here are some of the players that caught my eye over the weekend

2017

Ogechi Nwodo (Knights) college ready body and an abundance of potential. She's around six feet, athletic and goes after everything in the paint, runs floor well and can defend . Just started playing a year ago huge upside

Isabella Rathgeb (Insiders) long and athletic, can get to the rim easily and finish strong with either hand. Good IQ, can also step out and hit midrange and can defend under basket or from the perimeter.

2018

Kalea Hartman (Northside Ballerz) athletic guard that brings plenty of energy on both ends, plays passing lanes well, showed she could handle ball under pressure and hit the midrange plus she gets to rim and finishes with both hands

Frances King (TWELVE) has made a huge jump from last year, more intensity and aggressiveness usually come with maturity but her ability to turn into a scorer, meaning she finds ways to put ball in basket, blew me away


2019

Pamela Igbokwey (3220 Elite) long and athletic, plenty of upside to go with her 74 inches. She understands the simple things and has good skills but what I like is that she can simply get after it and won't back down. Time is on her side and she has a bright future

Alona Gray (Lady Chaos)

2020

Alona Gray (Lady Chaos) lighting has nothing on her as she bolts from one end to another. Loves to D up and plays passing lanes extremely well but trying to guard her is somewhat of a problem with her deadly first step

Khyra Cooper (Madville Lady Ballers) her length, athleticism and age tells me she's a next level lock and once she fine tunes a few things, who knows how high she can go. It's there, I saw that after a couple of minutes and once she lets it completely out....

Priscilla Williams ( Shooting Starz) I saw this kid walking bouncing the ball and asked what grade she was in and just on that I went to catch her game. She's close to six feet, she's long and her range was worthy of ABC TV last night. She creates extremely well for her age and I'm thinking HUGE down the road

Precious Daily & Cornecia  "Sissy" Thompson

2021

Sissy Thompson (TWELVE) has an arsenal of weapons I've seen few with at her age, she certainly understands the most important things, how to score and how to stop whoever she's guarding from scoring. Huge upside for both her and her cousin Precious who has been out with a minor injury and I have both pegged as among the tops in their class in TX

Kailey Yokum (Lady Chaos) Physical player and doesn't mind giving or receiving it on either end but that tells only part of the story as she showed she could rebound, defend and finish and that along with her age spells trouble on the court

Collette Taylor (Elite)

There is nothing like catching talented players for the first time and this past weekends Prime Time event at Texas Tornado had an abundance of talent including another 2020 "can't miss" prospect I've found hidden away, she'll be coming on the ever so important Girlz Prep Report Tip Sheet

My first look at Collette Taylor was a good one, she's a small guard that can create her shot as well as create for her teammates plus handle the ball under pressure while I had yet another look at Aaliyah Williams, a young lady I wrote about over a YEAR ago, it's always a good idea to use the search bar but I caught Williams with Lady Chaos a few months ago and the progression continues for this talented 8th grader who has plenty of upside read more

Precious & Sissy (they're cousins)

I wonder if Precious Daily and Cornecia Thompson are smiling because they're finally going to be able to play ball in school, I doubt it because these are couple of the best 2021 players I've seen in the state and both have plenty of upside left so when we come back later, remember I told you so. Team Absolute Lady Blues 7th/8th Grade #PrimeTime

Another solid group of talented players from the Lady Blues and although many are already showing signs of playing at the next level somewhere, I was overly impressed at the comprehension and aggressiveness displayed on all four teams. Here's the deal, once you comprehend something at an early and you're willing to work at it, you've placed yourself in a very good position

Korriana Reynaud definitely showed some signs as she, Jerkalia Jordan and Miasa Berry all took turns putting up numbers while Kacy Chrisand Takela Smith added that and some. Big plays from several other players on the team including Le'Jonne Blackmon and Dionne Atkins but as I stated earlier, all of the teams definitely have some talent

Team Absolute Lady Blues 6th/7th Grade #PrimeTime

I didn't get to see a whole lot of the two older teams from New Orleans, next time we meet, I gotcha but I did get to see Breanna Sutton score almost at will. Kori Joseph Tomyree Thompson and Soniyah Reed also put up numbers while Kamryn Bartholomew, Shirley Legaspi, Korriana Reynaud and Mishell Gasper added bits and pieces to their attack

2005 What A Class

Texas has always had talented players, that's a given and because of the states size and girls competing even more at younger ages, that's not going to change however several things have changed along the way and if you weren't around, you really don't know what I'm talking about.

I had a gentleman tell me I wrote about this team that I called great and their team beat the team by 30. My response was I can't tell you everything I've wrote over the years but I can certainly you what I have never written is that a team was great

In honor of today not being Friday the 13th, I wanted to throw a couple of teams that were great, the 7th grade Houston Hoops and the 8th grade Cy Fair Texans who were beating and competing with some of the top HS teams, not only in the state but the country.

Six Hoops players actually left to form the Texans however the names on both of the teams reads like a Who's Who of talent, TK Lafleur (Nebraska & TCU) Ebony Mangum (LA Tech & TCU) Aubrey Cook (Texas) Brittany Toran (Texas A&M) Morgan Clyburne (Stanford) Jessica Morrow (Baylor) Traci Ray (Utah State) Takia Starks (Texas A&M) Meagan Valicevic (Tulane)

I'm missing some but you get the picture and let me say this, either team at their respective age would compete for a TEXAS state title, trust me and I'm talking 6A. These are only a few from the most talented class I've seen from the state

Team Absolute Lady Blues 5th Grade #PrimeTime

As impressed as I was with the 4th grade Lady Blues team, the 5th graders simply turned the heat up and if it wasn't hot enough, they kept adding wood to the fire. Raegan Harold already shows signs of being an explosive scorer at a young age as she put up numbers throughout the event. Ah'Jaia Kenner also showed she could put up numbers but then again they were getting points either from Jayden Coleman and Niara Simmons or Alia Landry and Sydni Wiltz but it didn't stop there

Reniya Joseph already understands the simple things and I predict her to create numerous problems in the paint as she was a double-double waiting to happen. She along with Emily Bourg and Tamiya Mitchhell showed they could also make big plays at the right time but some of the biggest moments came on baskets from both Yanila Morales and Irmani Turner
