The Future is NOW for North Shore and Chasity Patterson

I'll never forget the night, it was cold and rainy and I was upset about the traffic as I drove to North Shore so I'm already irritated and the game was definitely heated, don't remember who their opponent was, this was December 2010 folks but from the anyway, I kept hearing YEEEEEEEEE from the top and asked someone who is making all that noise, not those exact words, and who is his daughter and when I was told abut his daughter being in the SIXTH grade, I introduced myself and told him I wanted to see her in action

After watching Chasity Patterson in her "school uniform", I was sold on her being a "can't miss" something that also has translated into game situation as that stroke has been DEADLY from every way imaginable, so over the years when I'm asked me what YEEEEEEEEEE meant, I tell em it probably means yall in trouble

Clear Springs run enough to get by Cy Fair

Clear Springs has been known to bring energy and excitement since they opened the doors a few years ago and their game against Cy Fair was one of the best I've seen at Campbell Center in this century. With four players in double figures, they get by Cy Fair 71-70 and will face North Shore to see who represents the region in San Antonio

Angela Harris closes out her career with a bang offensively and over the past three games, I've watched her simply go off and last night's 34 point solidifies what I said about her in the SIXTH grade

Rudder wins thriller against Barbers Hill

When you're tired, there's nothing like something to jump-start your body and I felt that this would be one of the best quadruple-header openers I've seen, it hasn't been an abundance of them since the top two division were split but nevertheless, I got to see some spectacular basketball

Patrickia Daily was simply unconscious dropping three deep ones and an and one finishing with 12 in the opening quarter against Barbers Hill, that number was matched by Eagles sophomore sensation Charli Collier and the game was back and forth

Daily (23) and Suber twins, Kianna (26) and Brianna (23) accounted for all but six of their teams points but this was definitely a total team effort. Collier led all scorers with 36, Barbers Hill just kept coming with multiple players stepping up however Rudder is one step away from heading back to San Antonio as Crosby stands in their path, that game is at 1pm

Tompkins first trip to semi's more than memorable

Many schools were all over Brittany Panetti prior to her ACL injury but at 6'3, you know there would still be some after. New Mexico landed a prize as the Tompkins senior's best basketball is ahead of her but she's definitely been a very important part of the Knights run. With Allison and Sarah Goss proving #sizedontmatter and Panetti showing #sizedoesmatter, the bottom line is if you're a player, nothing else really matters and they've all come up huge. Kendall Rollins continues to be the glue, she's going to put up numbers some kind of way and this core group that have played club ball together over the past few years are trying to send a message.

They've knocked off the best team record wise in the toughest district, Cy Woods, and they've knocked the best team on paper in that same district, Cy Ranch to get here so now they're going against the best team in the area, North Shore who came from behind to defeat Manvel behind the clutch shooting down the stretch of the young lady I called "The Future" when she was in the SIXTH grade, Chasity Patterson so at 8pm, I think Ice Cube said it best, "Once again it's on" as we're firing it up all day Straight Outta Campbell !!!!!!!

Noah filling up Ark for Bobcats

With back to back double-doubles or close to it, Olivia Noah continues to be the X factor for Cy Fair. You already know that Angela Harris and Kyler Wyatt are aggressive guards that will bring an abundance of heat on both ends, in fact Harris has simply shot the ball exceptionally well from long range en route to Campbell Center but Noah has came up huge as well, filling in many of the blanks

They are going against a ready for anything Clear Springs squad that has a 30 point margin of victory average after the first three rounds so right after the two 5A match-ups, this game should be something to see

R-3 5A semi's tomorrow

Let's see, Rudder has those Suber twins and Daily sisters but they are "All In The Family" as they're representing their R-3 title from last season when they defeated a talented A&M Consolidated squad, who happened to be their district rival, for the trip to San Antonio. Fast forward to now, Rudder open the Campbell Center up against Barbers Hill, I just got my hair cut at a shop raised above ground so I don't know what that means but I do know they have one of the top 2018 players in the country in Charli Collier

The 5 pm match-up has an impressive Magnolia squad who appears to have mimicked Tompkins in 6A by knocking off some heavy hitters to get here, most recently Waco. They go against the team I told you was the preseason favorite and even though I've yet to see Crosby, who finished ahead of Barbers Hill to win district, I know they have at least four D1 players but that doesn't necessarily assure anything, Rockwall won a state title with one back in the day and in the top division at that

I'll be a tweeting when I'm in my seat and I'll be eating because they always have treats but may the best team on that day win cause I don't care who gets beat, just play hard and smart, numerous college have verified they will be in attendance and they're not coming to see me

UNSIGNED Claudia Curtis helps lead Flour Bluff to Regional Semi's

Flour Buff hadn't made it to the Elite 8 in over 10 years but guess what, they've gone a step further as they face a tough Vista Ridge squad in the R-4 5A semifinals tomorrow night. I haven't seen Flour Bluff play however I am familiar with one of their talented players, Claudia Curtis, who created HAVOC over the summer for her Corpus Christi club team. Even before that, I was impressed with the young lady when I first caught her with the Hoyas, I love kids that play hard and play smart so that was what immediately caught my eye

Over the years, I just kept watching her add things to her game and with offers pouring, this talented young lady will make a decision soon after she takes a few visits but the visit she's interested in right now is that coveted trip to San Antonio for the STATE TOURNAMENT. In the last game, Curtis finsihed with 16 and probably had close to a double but she knows how to fill a stat sheet

Harris on fire again as Bobcat Fight Never Dies

Over the years, I get wind of things parents say about things I don't say and it's all good because I'm going to say what I see and that's just me, no agendas whatsoever, I'm just going to always keep it real. If I had to pick an Elite 8 MVP based on the four games I've watched the last two sessions, it would be Angela Harris hands down. Last week, I said she played the best half I've ever seen her play and last night she put her team on her back down the stretch for the win against Seven Lakes

Leslie Lockridge helped get them going early scoring 6 and handing out a few assists wile Kyler Wyatt was creating havoc on defense and even though Seven Lakes was coming up with numerous offensive boards, the shots just wouldn't fall. The Spartans did make a late run, Annie Bowman came off the bench to ignite them with a 3, Cydney Varner consistently got to her spot for the midrange and Michelle Fokam, what can I say other that she's a BEAST

Harris showed she was a beast as well, scoring at will off the dribble while knocking down the long ball just for fun but what I'm even more impressed with about her over the past two games is her ability to see the floor and with Olivia Noah running wit her, Harris connected numerous times. They have Clear Springs next who won easily against Hightower, both teams have been to state so that game should be interesting as well

Cinderella Tompkins crashes ball

Tompkins surprised almost everyone but me when they defeated Cy Woods last week and I have to admit that even though I called them a sleeper, I never would've had them beating Cy Ranch with everyone. Even though the Knights beat the Mustangs earlier this season, Ranch was without a couple of starters but last night, the #3 seed showed that they are in it for the long haul

Last week, Allison Goss was the catalyst in their victory over Cy Woods and when she went down early, I'm thinking they were in trouble but they weren't as twin sister Sarah handled the pressure and led the team with 16 points. #SizeDontMatter and "game starts at the one" certainly applied last night as they roll into Campbell Center to face North Shore who came from behind late on the back of Chasity Patterson to defeat Manvel

Tompkins will be making their first regional semifinals and you just never know but that game should be interesting to say the least

Navasota advances with win over Wheatley

Navasota rolled on to the regional semi's with a 75-65 win over Wheatley however it won't get easier as they'll  be facing the LaVaga vs Mexia winner and I remember Mexia from my last trip to Austin and I'll never forger LaVaga featuring Baylor signee "Juicy"

Last night's game wasn't really as close as the final score indicated, well actually it was because Prairie View signee Eryka Sydney was on fire in the opening quarter scoring 11 and she probably had close to 20 in the final period finishing with my unofficial count of forty-something which included around 10 three's. The Rattler's Keundra  Eddings was dropping three's herself, I think she had five of them including a 4 point play along with back to back layups ve them a 52-32 lead halfway in the third

The game starts at the one and Kalendra Jefferson definitely did a good job of running the point and hitting her teammates with pinpoint passes for gimmes as well as attack strong and finish plus she dropped some long ones. Navasota's inside presence Tashyra Banks and Molly Love were hard to match-up with, Banks had to be close to 20 points and I'm pretty sure she had a double double

From the first time I saw Sidney as a freshman, I knew she was special and to close out her career  with a loss might hurt a little but to be honest the Wildcats showed heart because I expected this to be a blowout and once they were down by 20 they could have just threw the towel in  but they didn't with Mahogany Dancy and Sidney helping them make a run. Sidney will do huge things at Prairie View and guess what, I'll be telling a lot of college coaches I told you so

UNDEFEATED Navasota vs Wheatley @ Cy Ridge 6pm TONIGHT

I haven't seen Navasota play all season, well actually I haven't seen them play in a very long time however I know several of their talented players from watching them in club ball and let me say one thing, the weather is changing outside but I'm wearing shorts because the Rattlers definitely bring heat

The 38-0 #1 ranked team in 4A goes against a very talented Wheatley squad led by Prairie View signee Eryka Sidney and several others on the verge of being household names. This should be an interesting game and I'll definitely be there to catch it

Dekaney streak continues

Back when Jaelyn Richard-Harris was with the Lady Roadriunners, I simply loved the way she loved the game, played with passion as well as a having a high basketball IQ and with her being vocal on the floor and actually telling her teammates to "take the shot," I was sold. Fast forward to her senior season and the talented LSU signee has shown she was exactly what I said, the best PG in the area and her Dekaney team is on the verge of yet another regional semifinal

To get there, they have to beat Round Rock Westlake who I know absolutely nothing about and the winner will play the winner of Killeen vs Richardson, a couple of squads I do know something about. Killeen is filled with athletic players who press baseline to baseline and create lot's of points from their defense while Richardson counters with A&M signee Arleighsha McElroy and Houston signee Dorian Branch who account for the vast majority of their offense while Brianna Lester fills in many blanks

On the other end, Horn vs Midway and Bowie vs Pflugerville should provide some excitement , the return of Texas signee Jada Underwoon has Horn on the verge of making a state run but it should be interesting. Back to Dekaney, can they do it, well their only loss has been to E-8 Clear Springs from R-3 and they've defeated Cy Ranch, Hightower and Seven Lakes, all in the E-8 as well from R-3 and they defeated defending state champs Cy Woods. When you throw in E-8 Barbers Hill (R-5) and Brazosport (R-4) to say their battle tested is definitely an understatement

Region 3 Elite 8 in 4A has surprises

I knew Rudder could take licks, watched them a lot last season and the FBISD Tournament this season but many of the players on the team have been observed by me prior to college and I expected to see them again at the Campbell Center where they earned a trip to Austin, I mean San Antonio, in a hard fought regional final against A&M Consolidated and I was expecting a rematch of that game

That won't be happening, Consolidated lost to Magnolia who will be facing Waco featuring those talented Benson sisters in the E8 while Galveston Ball will be playing Crosby, the team I picked to represent the region in the preseason, after all they have four D1 players including a couple that signed with HBU,  Sydney Carr and Shannon Jones

Back to the top of the bracket, I haven't seen Temple so I don't know if Rudder is running into the "Temple of Doom" or not but I kind of expect to see the young ladies from Bryan playing the winner of Barbers Hill and Beaumont Central and that game will kick off the Campbell Center QUADRUPLE HEADER at 3:30

Tompkins vs Cy Ranch @ Merrell Center 7:30 pm

The game starts at the one, always has, ALWAYS WILL however when you have a 6'3 like New Mexico signee Brittany Panetti, hey that rhymed, things can happen in huge ways. Tompkins and Cy Ranch have had their share of injuries the past two seasons and the winner of this game will be making their first R-3 semifinal game at Campbell Center, well actually let me take an assist from the Mustangs PG's dad, they actually made it year before last so this would be Tompkins first if they happen to pull it off

Tomkins has the Goss twins, loved them immediately in middle school because #sizedontmatter when you're smart, skilled and can score. The athleticism from Kendall Rollins will make her hard to defend as she knows how to score plus Hannah Hudson continues to fill in many of the blanks however Panetti will have a lot to do with the outcome, btw, what genius called them a sleeper, yep

On the flip side, I said Cy Ranch and North Shore were the most likely to represent the region and although many judge things by wins and losses, I judge things differently and with D'Asia Collins back at the one, she's one of the top "18s at her position, things will go smoothly. Rachel Tapps (UTEP) is one of the most gifted athletes that can play ball, Deauzya Richards was called a Top 100 lock when she was in the 7th grade wearing those orange shoes I love and Arianna Whitfield has become a big time scorer

All four have been hurt at one time or another, many times more than one but there here and ready. Who will win it, I stand by my preseason prediction on who it comes down to but guess what, I ain't playing and I don't really care, I just want to see all of the teams play the best they can and whoever represents the region, take care of business in San Antonio because the heat gets hotter around the AlamoDOME

Cy Fair vs Seven Lakes @Merrell Center 6pm

Go to the archives and read who I said were the top two teams in both D-17 and D-19 and here we are as those two districts account for half of the Elite 8 in R-3 6A. Katy Mills Mall and Orleans Seafood aren't the only reasons I'll be at the Merrell Center to watch the Bobcats battle the Spartans, it's a doubleheader and with the price of gas, it's a no-brainer

Cy Fair has one of the most aggressive back-courts in the area with Kyler Wyatt (Prairie View) and Angela Harris (Houston) so if you can't take their heat, it's going to be interesting. Harris is coming off the best half I've seen her play, almost perfect but the X factor last game was Olivia Noah who came through down the stretch with numerous buckets and rebounds finishing with a double-double

Seven Lakes is led by UNSIGNED Cydney Varner, one of the best midrange shooters in Texas and Michelle Foakam, one of the best 5'9 players around the basket in the state. I mentioned you better be able to handle the heat, well Brooke Biggot and Bailey Brown have done just that every time I've watched them but the X factor last game had to be Hadassah Benenoch who simply was fearless and played one of the best games I've seen her play and she probably was close to a double-double also

Who will win, well Cy Fair hasn't made it to the R-3 semi's since 2010, the year they won their second state title and if the back-court is under control and stays out of foul trouble, well it could be a long night for Seven Lakes because they're good for 30 plus between them. On the flip, Biggot opened up last game with multiple three's, something I've watched Brown do all season while Varner and Foakam simply got theirs in the flow. If all are clicking and Benenoch plays like she did last game, I'm excited just thinking about the game

Manvel vs North Shore Tuesday @ Phillips 7:30 pm

With three players back from the state championship Manvel won back in 2014, that should actually mean something however it really doesn't because they're going against area top rated North Shore who I picked, along with Cy Ranch, as the teams most likely to get out of here

Lauren Taylor, the explosive UNSIGNED guard, has already shown me she can bring heat on both ends of the floor. Taylor, Imani Wiley and Alley Caudill are all a little under double digits for the season while freshman Mackenzie " Big Mac" Green leads the team with just over 10 ppg and if it'

North Shore is led by Chasity Patterson who is one of top guards in the country, I said that when she was in the 6th grade, I did a YouTube video calling her "The Future" back then so everyone else is playing catch up because either you saw it or you didn't a long time ago.

With that being said, 6'3 North Carolina signee Alyssa Okoene and power PF Victoria Blankenship combine for 50 ppg, Patterson almost half of that . The Mavericks lost by only 5 when they played earlier this season and on paper, they have no chance of beating the Mustangs. Here's the deal, the game isn't played on paper but.........

Clear Springs vs Hightower Tuesday @ Manvel 6pm

Clear Springs and Hightower met back in December in the Sandra Meadows Classic, how ironic and six degrees of separation sort of applies as SMC winner Duncanville is the favorite to win it all but first things first. The Chargers won that game by a little over 20 but this isn't the same Hurricanes team as they met on that cold winter night, wait, I wasn't even there so scratch that

Tasharian Robinson has put up numerous triple doubles over the season and averaging just that in district play while fellow 2017 standout Sierra Cheetam leads the team in scoring at 13 ppg, both are among the states top juniors, followed by sophomore sensation Dymond Gladney one of the top PGs in her class in Texas is right behind her at 12 ppg, senior Destini Hall at 11 while Robinson is right around 10 so when you have multiple players that can score double digits, you're going to create some issues but the biggest issue all Charger teams have brought over the years is "HEAT ON D"

On the flip side of that SMC game, no Taylor Holland, no Treazure Mouton as both were out with injuries however they've returned and when you add a couple of D1 players into the equation, you don't have to score an 800 on the math portion of the SAT to figure this will be a different game. With explosive Maddison Glass running the one, as well as long ball threat Jasmine Harvey, you've got some firepower but a big S/O to Eneily Rodriguez and Lenecia Mitchell for helping keep things together as they get ready for the run

Who will advance, I have no idea but this should be an entertaining game filled with excitement and both teams have already been to state so the tradition is there

Multiple E-8 teams "been there, done that"

I was thinking about the 9 area 6A teams remaining in the E-8 and all but Tompkins have advanced to the Regional Semifinals and since both teams play each other,, that's about to change a little after 9pm on Tuesday

On top of that, out of the remaining 7 teams,, Manvel, Cy Fair, Clear Springs, Hightower and Dekaney have all made it to the State Semifinals, Manvel and Cy Fair both have won state titles, well the Bobcats have won 2

Elite 8 set for R-3 6A

After Tompkins defeated preseason TABC  #5 Westside by 30 in the SBISD Tournament championship, I had a parent  ask me about rankings, team and player and I responded that although I respect the work others put in, I don't really care about a lot of that because most of it is based on what was done that previous season on who you're gathering information from

Let's go back to what I said on November 4th
READ MORE

Ironically all six teams are still in the hunt, five in R3 and one in R-2 while Cy Fair was my initial #2 pick in D-17, the toughest district in the area right behind the team I figured had the best chance to get out of here, Cy Ranch in a draw with North Shore

Didn't really have a gauge on that 8th spot for R-3, Manvel had to overcome a lot but they made it so if I appear to be rude when someone tells me "this person said this" or "that person said that" it's nothing like having information to substantiate what is being said and remember I actually called Tompkins a sleeper

Interesting double doubleheader in Katy tonight

Okay here we go, second round and doubleheaders definitely have me excited and since D-17, one more time, "the toughest district in the area" has all four playoff teams alive, this is where anything can happen, or is it. Cy Woods vs Tompkins at 6 pm followed by Cy Ranch vs Katy and Morton Ranch is one of the I-10 West spots I have my eyes on but I'm in a no lose situation because it should be some good basketball and I get to hit Orleans and the OUTLET

At Mayde Creek, I called Seven Lakes a sleeper in the preseason, well they're going to have their hands full with an long range Cy Falls squad. Unsigned Cydney Varner is one of the top remaining players left in Texas ad also one of the best midrange shooters in the state. After the 6 pm game, Bellaire vs Cy Ranch should be entertaining as well so eenie meenie miney mo, maybe I'll bring Baby LoLo

Round 2 has possible upsets

Let's see, D-17 swept their first round games and with the exception of Bellaire, all HISD teams in 6A lost in the first round which sort of makes for some interesting basketball especially since the Cardinals are going against Cy Fair, one of the areas hottest teams.

North Shore tangles with a dangerous Clear Falls squad, the Knights have a little bit of everything and exciting Dekaney puts their 30 plus win streak on the line against Austin Westlake

Brazosport's Jas Harris has been flirting with 50 points for a few games so it should be interesting how far they can go as well as Wheatley led by Eryka Sidney who has numerous 40 plus point games herself

Opening night of playoffs have no surprises

With Cy Woods and Cy Ranch both winning on Monday, the toughest district in the area is on the verge of sweeping their first round games but that was expected, especially with Cy Ranch at the 4th spot

SCORES

Many interesting games on tap for tonight and I guess the Westside vs Tompkins should be rather interesting, the Wolves lost by 30 to the Knights back in November but Tompkins has had some key injuries and this might go either way

Reagan's Unsigned Jones ready for final R-4 run

So many times I catch players for the first time and I just know they are legitimate D-1 prospects and although others may not see it, I haven't been wrong yet. I hear people say this player can't do this or that and the irony is I caught a glimpse of some of the similar things said about another former high school player named Stephen Curry who is a pretty good player on the other side right? That might not be the best example, boy's basketball is totally different from girl's and if you don't realize that stop reading now but talent is talent and to be successful on the girl's side is something I definitely know what I'm talking about

San Antonio Reagan's Mailee Jones is one of those LEGITIMATE D-1 players, she's smart, she can score and contrary to rumor, she can defend as I've seen her go against some of the top guards in Texas and put the clamps on them. What truly put's Jones on another level is her competitiveness as she won't quit on her team and she lives for the pressure as I've seen her take numerous shots for the win and unlike my postal carrier she delivered on time.

Jones goes against McDonald's All American Amber Ramirez San Antonio Wagner's team in the opening round in what should be one of the best opening games in the state. In the above video, watch her score on a variety of ways and below is a link to her YouTube videos which includes full games

Area 5A playoff schedule

Last season's 5A R-3 semifinals were definitely a breath of fresh air and I'm wondering if district rivals Rudder and A&M Consolidated will reach the finals again. Several teams are the hunt, the explosive Bush squad is one of them, what about Crosby, a team with four D1 players or one of the top players in the country who happens to play for Barbers Hill

Then again it may not be any of them because Waco and others are more than capable of putting together a run

Area 6A playoff schedule

First round games are generally not interesting in the playoffs due to the  1 vs 4 as well as lopsided districts that meet because of alignments but  with all that being said, over the years, several districts have been swept in the first round and not just in the Houston area.

This year there are actually several games in the first round that have already caught my eye, Westside vs Tompkins in particular as the Wolves lost by 30 back in the SBISD however injuries to the Falcons have seen the team I considered a sleeper to get out of here drop to an R-19 third place finish in Region 3

Over in Region 2, it's Dekaney and everyone else from the area as the Wildcats have won 31 straight since an opening day loss to Clear Springs so it's possible that the Houston area might have two representatives in San Antonio. Here are the opening round games for 6A

Sophomore Ott continues to stay hot

A healthy Jordan Ott is what caught my eye in what seems like an eternity ago but the Lake Travis sophomore continues to blossom in her second full season of varsity. Big guards that can score are always going to be a premium and this talented young lady is one of the top players in Texas 2018 class, check out her video

OTT SOPHOMORE HIGHLIGHTS

Possible Mustangs vs Mustangs or Wildcats coming at ya

Rachel Tapps is all smiles as the UTEP signee gears up for her final playoff run with Cy Ranch one of the teams I figured would be in the mix once it's all said and done. The Mustangs have been plagued with injuries once again however they could be  heading for a showdown with another team I also figured would be in the running, North Shore, in the regional semifinals

To do that, Ranch would have to defeat district rival Cy Woods in the quarterfinals, the Wildcats went undefeated in district however one of their losses was to to Cy Ranch and they also lost two close ones to those other Mustangs as well. This is going to be one of the most interesting playoffs I've seen this century and don't be surprised if things look a little different after the first two rounds  but here we go

Last season's 5A regional final game between district rivals A&M Consolidated and Rudder was one of the best games I saw all season and although Rudder won, several messages were sent including a special to me. When I first saw Aerial Starks, I knew she had the tools to be more than just a D1 lock but my biggest concern was if she believed she was that type of player, well 27 points later, I was assured knowing that she knew and more importantly I was RIGHT yet again

Fast forward to now, after losing to Rudder by 3 in the first round of district play, A&M Consolidated picked up a huge win last night with Starks dropping 31 from a variety of angles and distance, this includes 12-14 from the line, and my biggest question to myself is will these two talented teams make it back to Campbell Center, who knows, but it is about ti become super interesting

College doubleheader tomorrow , well sort of

Former Clear Springs star Courtney Latham and Tulane Green Wave invade Hofheinz Pavillion against the Cougars at 2pm tomorrow to start my day then I'll teleport over to Sharp Gym to watch a couple of more former local stars Taylor Schippers (Concordia Lutheran) and Brentney Branch (Clear Creek) come to town to play HBU at 4pm

Parents, again support your local teams and get your daughters out to watch ALL levels of the next level so they'll know what it takes and not take someone who doesn't know Where They From when they come at you with nonsense and foolishness

TALENT IS EVERYWHERE

Langham Creek in must win situation in D-17 showdown

The toughest district in the area is going , let me hashtag it #downtothewire

My biggest concern with Cy Woods was losing 2 D1 guards, that BCS frontcourt is solid but you HAVE to have guard play and the guards have stepped up which has a lot to do with them winning district

Cy Fair has come out of nowhere and all but secured 2nd place in D-17, there simply playing as a team better than they were in November and could make a deep run

Cy Falls right now is 3rd place, multiple long range shooters reminiscent of state R-3 rep bomb squad

Langham Creek's youth have carried them this close to the playoffs, something they haven't seen in a while and they're tied with Cy Ranch, a team plagued with injuries, again, and also the team I predicted along with North Shore that would make a run

TONIGHT

Cy Falls at Langham Creek, this could really become interesting  and here's why

2016 Road To San Antonio starts not now but ......

North Shore and Cy Ranch were my picks to get out of here in 6A during the preseason and while The Mustangs have solidified their chances the other Mustangs have been plagued with injuries and right now find themselves in a tie for the final playoff spot in D-17

Here are the questions I pose to myself

1. Will D-17 have two teams in the regional semi's at Campbell Center
2. Will someone other than either Mustangs team make it to San Antonio to represent R-3
3. Can anyone from any region beat Duncanville

Those questions will be answered starting February 15th

PLAYOFFS

HSAA teams make noise #SpaceCityJam

Let's see, the 14U and 16U HSAA Blue Angels' teams won their divisions at the 2016 Space City Jam while the 18U Varsity squad placed third behind talented  New Way and SATCH squads and what has me really sold is the pipeline because that young squad of 8th graders definitely has some players to be reckoned with

Clare Simpson's size and skill set weren't the only things to impress me, love the way she battles and her upside is going to be something to see She and Megan Leupen bot showed they could battle on the boards on both ends of the court

Also impressive were Joey Thorman and Maci Martin that simply filled in many of the blanks that helped them win the championship but it doesn't stop there as Gracen Williams, Sophia Thompson and Anna Thompson all made the Tip Sheet in the 2020 group while Miss Amazing Maggie Thompson just blew me away and she's in the 2022 class

SCHENCK super in so many ways #SpaceCityJam

I've written about tons of players over the years, some not so bright remarks have come my way about "my favorite player this or that" and I have to reassure people that I only have one favorite player and that's the one in the picture with the president.

Madison Schenck definitely has a special place in my heart and it's not just because she's a talented basketball player that has expanded her game from the first time I saw her in the 8th grade where she was primarily a post player but simply because she's a good person that actually cares about others

Her recent signing with St Edwards wasn't a spur of the moment deal, she was toying with idea of playing D1 ball but after weighing all of her options, size of the campus, ability to go in and play immediately, the warmth she felt on her visit all played a part however she's also looking long term and ranking of the school academically definitely played a huge part as well

She closed out her final Space City Jam with a bang, 30 points and 28 rebounds and her points came from long and midrange, put backs or simply taking players off the dribble was no surprise to me and after watching her work on her weaknesses all of these years, I assured her no if ands or butts, she definitely has D1 talent and she will excel at the next level
