These are some of the standouts from the SBISD, CISD and Lady Gander Tournaments along with my Metroplex Friday visit
Gabbie Stanton-5’6 guard-Kingwood HS
Stanton has elevated her status on the floor. Her shooting
has been there but her ball handling has improved. The most important thing
that’s jumped is her ability to run a team and set her teammates up for easy
baskets. She can play the one or two.
Tana Driver-5’1 guard-Irving MacArthur HS
I often use the “size doesn’t matter” with this young lady
because her IQ and skill level can be productive at the next level. Her outside
shooting continues to improve and she always manages to be somewhere around the
ball. Knows how to run a team and get the ball to the right person. Great
assist to t/o ratio. How smart is she? Ivy League type grades and was just
inducted into NHS.
Torrie Thompson-5’7 guard-Clear Lake HS
It took me a while on this one however as the Lady Tip Off
classic progressed, I knew she was definitely a player that could play at the
next level. Stronger than she looks, she’s dives after loose ball, has a good
handle and sees the floor well. Better than average defender that also showed
she could score from mid to long range.
Brynae Thompson-5’8 guard-Jersey Village HS
A lefty that can get to the hole and score in bunches.
Anticipates well and is a decent defender. One drawback is she needs to work on
her right but when she’s on, her ability to catch and shoot from bta is second
to none.
Christalah Lyons-5’6 guard-Dallas Skyline HS
Lyons is an exciting player with amazing speed and I’m
talking with the ball. Her numbers don’t show it because her team is loaded but
she can score from just about anywhere and defend. Good IQ and even more
important she is very unselfish and doesn't take a play off.
