Return of Rodriguez good news for La Porte

Elise Rodriguez

I thought this would be the year that La Porte would challenge North Shore for the district title. After all their "Big 3" of Tori Wise, Jeslee Lozano and Elise Rodriguez were back from being All District selections last seasons and with good summers under their belts, they seemed prime for the challenge

Since the game starts where, it's unfortunate that Rodriguez  has been battling injuries all season which trickled over from the end of summer however this 2014 GPR Under The Radar player showed a glimpse of what has impressed me about her since middle school as she gave solid minutes during the Peggy Whitley Classic

With a healthy Rodriguez, to go along with Wise and Lozano, not to mention the emergence of freshman Sierra "SiSi"Wooley , they may do some damage before the end of the season.

Tonight they host North Shore who has been surprising to say they least and move--in Valencia Nelson has been paying dividends for the Mustangs so this will be a tough one.

2014 Under The Radar Elise Rodriguez

Misconceptions always bother me however if a player can hang in the air and score, make reverse layups, split defenders with either a crossover or going behind their back, well that shows athleticism and don't get me started on dishing out assists with either hand but La Porte's  Elise Rodriguez biggest problem is that nagging injuries didn't allow her to do some of the things I've seen her do since she was in middle school during the viewing periods

Rodriguez is one of the top available point guards in Texas, she can set her teammates up for gimmes simply because she not only knows the game, she thinks the game and her grades off the court echo's that. Can she score, well I already said she could with some athletic moves but the mid and long range aren't a problem but her ability to run a team is something you shouldn't sleep on

'14 Elise Rodriguez on fire in La Porte win over West Brook

I've always touched on injuries being vital to how far a team goes in a season and too many of them to key players is, well going to create problems. Let me take a step farther, injuries to players at the wrong time, aka viewing periods, can also take a toll and Elise Rodriguez has had more than her share of nagging injuries at the wrong time. The young lady has qualified both on and off the court and is solid at running the one, which means she can run a team, knows and understands the game and won't hurt you because her BB-IQ is right up there with some of the other top points in the state

The unsigned senior has put together some amazing efforts throughout her career, the latest being a 20 point outburst in La Porte's recent win against Beaumont West Brook 40-38. La Porte is trying to secure the final playoff spot in 21-5A and a healthy Rodriguez has definitely been one of the keys

2014 UTR Elise Rodriguez comes up huge in La Porte win

The prototype point guard, smart, efficient and can run a team however when you add the fact that this unsigned 2014 star from La Porte simply knows when to take a game over, well you've definitely got something to work with. Elise Rodriguez is averaging close to a double-double, points and assists, this season and she simply went off in La Porte's victory over Baytown Sterling. Rodriguez had 19 point and she was close to that double as well in their 57-38 victory

2014 Elise Rodriguez has eyes on prize

Elise Rodriguez has battled back from injuries over her career and her presence was felt immediately when she returned last season to LaPorte in the second half of district play. During the first half, the top three teams in district, North Shore, Port Arthur Memorial and Channelview all won with ease before the return of Rodriguez and even though they all won after her return, all the games were decided by five points or less. This 2014 Under The Radar player can score when she needs to however her BB IQ and ability to make her teammates better while running the one is what caught my eye years ago. Check out the video and will be be following her, well my staff of one will, throughout the season

Healthy Rodriguez good news for La Porte

Expect for La Porte to make some noise in district this season since Elise Rodriguez will be at full force. As a middle schooler, I saw the next level potential in the young lady who has matured and continued to blossom over the past two seasons. Even at less that 100%  over the summer, Rodriguez showed heart while guiding her club team to an impressive finish, including winning the whole thing in Las Vegas

How far will La Porte will go not only depends on Rodriguez but she's the point and a mighty good one who is definitely one of the 2014 players that's "UTR"

A healthy Elise Rodriguez makes La Porte a threat

Maybe I should have called this battle back against adversity day and if any player has had to do that continuously it would be 2014 GPR Under The Radar Elise Rodriguez. Not only is she one of the top points in the city, she can get her point off many ways as her basketball IQ is through the roof. Watching her drop floaters all over the place during the Peggy Whitley Classic brought back memories of watching her in middle school

When the defense gave her some air, she was nailing it from everywhere and although she can just about score at will, her primary purpose is to keep her teammates involved. She had several solid games in the PWC including a double double of 12 pts and 10 ast and another in which she scored 21. That followed a 27 point burst prior to the tournament shows the unsigned senior is clicking and the team will be surprising as long as she's healthy

Unsigned PG Rodriguez and La Porte have tough draw off the top

Point guard Elise Rodriguez has been huge all season putting together several games where she has simply exploded. One of the top point guards in the area, Rodriguez has continued to show what she could do when healthy and even though minor ankle injuries slowed her the past two summers, to simply put it , she can run a team and if needed, score in bunches, check the video below

Healthy Rodriguez helps lead La Porte to playoffs

This was supposed to be a breakout season for La Porte junior Elise Rodriguez but nagging injuries throughout the past summer which lingered into the season had the young lady either playing in a tremendous amount of pain or not being able to play at all .

The good news is over the past month, she has been revitalized along with putting up numbers, a recent 20 point outburst against Beaumont Westbrook last week gives you an idea. Also she has helped guide her team during the second half of district, losing to North Shore and Channelview by five and PA Memorial by two, those are the three teams tied for first place in district, and all defeated LaPorte by double digits while Rodriguez was battling the pain

Even though she's still not 100% physically, she's mentally ready as the Bulldogs open up with one of the top teams in the state, Manvel, when the playoffs start next week.

One thing is for certain, this 2014 GPR "Under The Radar" player will be ready for the most important summer of her career

Hot summer has Under The Radar Rodriguez smoking

Elise Rodriguez was one of the top point guards in the area after her sophomore season in high school however nagging injuries over the summer trickled into her junior season at LaPorte however even at 75%, she came back with a bang and helped them make a run including tight games that could have gone either way against the top three teams in the district. It's not how you start it's how you finish and by the end of July, Rodriguez was almost 100%  and a double-double waiting to happen as she was scoring almost at will, how about pulling an Isiah and score 12 points in the last minute and a half at Big State Flava for a win, or the numerous double digit assist games I personally witnessed as well. I'll get a chance to check out ER at the Texas Invitational in November

Return of Rodriguez great news for Bulldogs

After a solid sophomore season, Elise Rodriguez was ready to explode during the club season however nagging injuries somewhat slowed that down even though her team won a big event in Las Vegas where she showed signs of what she could do, she still wasn't herself

Well it appears ER is back in the operating room after helping lead La Porte to a victory over West Brook earlier this week and almost pulling off a double-double. Rodriguez is one of the UTR players for 2014, check out both 2013 and 2014 on the GPR website

Unsigned Rodriguez returns with a bang

Elise Rodriguez missed the Texas Invitational however much needed return to La Porte came at the right time. Last night, Rodriguez scored 22 points and came close to a double-double with her assists. The 2014 GPR Under The Radar player is ready to help lead her team in district with hopes of reaching the playoffs

Unsigned Rodriguez on point for La Porte

Elise Rodriguez is one of the top unsigned point guards in the state and her presence has been felt throughout her career when healthy. I comment about her ability to take over games when needed from the one but the pass first point guard primary goal is to help make her La Porte teammates better. She's often close to a double-double, points and assists and in her final high school season she is one of the reasons the Lady Bulldogs are in a three way fight for the final two playoff spots in District 21

Tomorrow night, they have district leader North Shore at home

Hoops GPR UTR players shine at #3rdCoastMWS

Elise Rodriguez and Cree Hammond put in the work at Team Ichiban's Memorial Weekend Showdown. Rodriguez is almost 100% and her ability to not only run a team but also set her teammates up is only overshadowed by her improved scoring ability

Hammond is at the magic 6'0 number and can jump out of the gym. She continues to elevate over players to get her shot off, rebound, block shots or whatever else as she sometimes appears to defy gravity.

Si Si will be back for La Porte Bulldogs

I had to take about 100 pictures of Sierra Wooley before she decided on which one I needed to keep and normally I just throw random photos up but I've been knowing Si Si forever. Wooley is battling back through her second ACL tear  but she's itching to play and her addition to a very impressive La Porte team would create some problems. The team has talent, I can't say enough about Elise Rodriguez, well I will on Tuesday, and this is a young lady that knows a little about injuries herself

Jesslee Lozano and freshman Jordan Ochoa are two of the top long ball threats in the area, Brittany Bradshaw, Vanessa Stelly, you know what, just chill, I'm doing something on the Bulldogs when district comes around because I'm thinking something is going to happen huge.........

Fastbreakers still explosive and making noise

You can never have too many scorers, especially players that can score in bunches. Elise Rodriguez recently joined the Fastbreakers and in a matter of minutes went off for around 10 points in their consolation final against Cy Fair Platinum 16U. Then you have Lauren Grigsby and Cree Hammond, both showed during the school season that they are capable of putting up numbers.

Those three are newcomers and when you team them with Ekiyah Gray, one of the most underrated players, not by me, in the state over her career along with Regina Scott and Amber Lane, you have the makings of a very explosive and potent squad
