Westside's Turner Leads Reign Of Terror

MADDISEN TURNER

Fallon Ellis and Kelsey Bone played with my younger daughter on the Houstonian's 10U team, they were eight and seven respectively and held what I thought was the record for the youngest players I had seen coming up other than my own kids. After further review, coupled with a solid nights sleep and the fact that things always pop in my head, it appears Maddisen Turner is. I met Maddisen when my oldest daughter was in the 8th grade, she was four and running around with a basketball towering over kids two and three years older. Technically she wasn't playing ball but I knew she would be a player since her mom was 6'4 and a star player in college, not to mention the first coach at Westside and the person who built that program from scratch into one of the top area teams

DANA SMITH

The younger Turner had a solid freshman season as she also plays for the Westside Wolves and looking at her and another freshman ,Helen VanBeck perform on the Houston Reign, I expect these twin towers to be doing a lot of damage during their next three years, both are a tad over 6'0, VanBeck is also a varsity player at Westside. Here's a wild card for you, Dana Smith is also from that 2015 class, she's also 6'0 and she also shows a lot of promise however she didn't play her freshman season for, you guessed it, Westside. Should she decide to play, that would probably wind up being one of the most feared front-courts in the area before they graduate as Turner is developing guard like skills and showing she can attack from the wing and hit the outside jumper consistently while the other two young ladies are doing damage in the paint.

MADISON AGUILERA

The Houston Reign and Gulf Coast Twister provided another exciting game and the Reign have several players that show a lot of promise from both the 2014 and 2015 classes. I'll get another look at them at the Houston Insiders Basketball Classic . It will be GPR certified which means I'll be covering it!

Unofficial Wildcats Weekend Starts With Wheatley

 Let me start off like this. Wheatley's name was synonymous with boys basketball Pre and post integration. Uptempo basketball was their style and a flair for excitement has fans of over 50 years still supporting their school. My parents were Wildcats, my godfather, above giving me a cut, will turn 80 in a couple of a months was a Wildcat and like all Wildcats they are still going strong, stronger than me for that matter.

MECHELLE CROSBY

In what I'm calling unofficial Wildcat weekend, let me give some pub to a few players from Wheatley that will do some damage since Dimonisha Sophus will be taking her over 30 ppg to South Alabama next season. This talented group of players might have one of the best unknown back-courts in the area. Mechelle Crosby is a gifted and exciting point guard that is not only flashy but makes things happen in a variety of ways on both ends of the court.

ARIEL TAYLOR

Her back-court mate, Ariel Taylor is a solid combo guard with a college body right now. She too can score a variety of ways, defend and is a great rebounder for her size.  These two will be the foundation and the game will start with them as the both can play, you guessed it, the one.

LAURA FAIR

An injury to 5'10 Jayla Williams caused a little regrouping as she is ultra athletic and can jump out of the gym. It would have been nice to help get her on the map this season but those darn injuries seem to come at the wrong time. Although not athletic like Williams, Laura Fair has been a pleasant surprise and although she's still raw, the improvement I've seen in her from the start of the season until now is promising. When you're 6'1 with a college ready body, well you know the rest. Saying they were impressive in the Alodia Primetime Rising Stars Showcase would be an understatement just as to underestimate them for next season wouldn't be wise.

Cy Creek Players Shine On Multiple Teams

Cy Creek was well represented at the Alodia Prime Time Rising Stars Showcase last weekend. From the Cy Fair Heat, Lindsey Gendron, Ikpeaku Iwobi, both from the 2013 class along with junior Alexandria Dougherty played key roles in their game against the Houston Hoops which happened to be one of the most games of the tournament. Gendron played great defense throughout the tournament while Iwobi has the ability, drive and desire to somehow take over games in the paint at 5'8. Sharpshooter Dougherty can drop the long ball with the best of them when open and these three will play an even bigger role as the Creek makes a run at a district title in 17-5A

 

The Cougars were well represented on the Lady Fireballers as well and on yesterday I spoke about the improvement of 2014 Darianne Williams, read story.

The wild card for the Cougars has to be Dani Fielder, wait I'm sorry, Danny "Airborne" Fielder. One of the most athletic players in the 2013 class is also one of the most underrated and when I say athletic, I'm talking about she can do some things on the court like guys, now that's serious. Her mid-range game has definitely improved since I saw her as a bright eyed freshman and all of that unbridled energy has been has been harnessed and she has turned into an very good ball player. With last seasons top two teams in 17-5A going through major face-lifts,  the district may be up for grabs and Cy Creek wants their names placed in the hat

GPR Covering Insiders Basketball Classic May 18th-20th

Brynae Thompson and Anna McLeod are two of the top freshmen in the state, how high these young stars rise in the Class of 2015 is simply up to them. In a city this huge, there are players everywhere and as you can see by the number of signees that  I've listed as the area makes a run at 70, understand the importance of positive exposure and based on the number of hits I receive daily, Girlz Prep Report is giving plenty of positive exposure to players I have seen this club ball season not to mention the numerous players added to my scouting service

Spotting talent is my specialty and although Eryka Sydney is still in middle school, she's another Sydney I project to explode before it's all said and done and remember where you heard the name first. Girlz Prep Report will be covering the Insiders Basketball Classic which starts the weekend of May 18th. 13-5A Realignment Brings Surprises

The addition of Kingwood and Atascocita may not be the only changes coming in District 13-5A if the rumors floating around come true. Nevertheless, Klein Forest stars Desiree Davis and Jeliah Preston are all smiles as they figure the Golden Eagles will be in the hunt against Dekaney for top spot. Here is the 2012-13 alignment

Pearland Hawks Showcase Up And Comers

Let's face it, there isn't much out there as far as publicity for area girls basketball from knowledgeable people . Sure you have magazines talking to club coaches who pump up players in their programs or the occasional bits and pieces from our local paper, usually during the playoffs but as you can see with Houston area making a run at 70 area next level players, there are gifted talented players all over the place and many of those players were diamonds in the rough but have worked hard from the initial time I saw them to get where they are

MADDIE POWERS

The Pearland Hawks have several of players in their program which had two teams, 2015 and 2016 squads, featured in the Alodia Prime Time Rising Stars Showcase and to be honest I saw several players from their  program who show promise with plenty of upside. Jessi Mueler at 5'9 might hit the magic number of 6'0 before it's all said and done, she has get hands and footwork while playing the post and the young lady just won't quit. Maddie Powers is still in middle school however she plays on the 2015 squad and let me tell you she plays. Although raw in a little areas, the confidence is there and with maturity she will also develop into a very good ballplayer

 I'll get a chance to see these young ladies again soon and now that I Have them in my sights, these Hawks won't be flying under the radar anymore

Brianna Fuller Is The 64th Area Signee

After Ronisha Major graduated, many thought Huntsville would fall apart however Brianna Fuller and Ceidra Coleman made sure that wouldn't happen. Fuller, the long and athletic post /wing has turned into a force for Huntsville and flourished her senior season when she needed to become more of an offensive threat. She has decided Northwestern will be her next stop where she does some damage

Lady Fireballers Williams Shows Progression

Darianna Williams wasn't on varsity at Cy Creek last season and I caught a glimpse of her earlier this season and she showed promise. Almost two months later, this 2014 Houston Lady Fireballer went completely off in the Alodia Prime Time Rising Star Showcase scoring from a variety of ways whether from way outside, hitting the pull ups in traffic or attacking the basket from a variety of ways. If she continues improving the way she has, Creek may be able to make a run at the district title, more on her and her Creek teammates including stars Dani Fielder and Iwobi Ikpeaku coming tomorrow

Cy Ridge Star Atkinson Becomes 63rd Player

 Cree Atkinson is used to being squeezed on the basketball court but being 6'1 and blessed with an extreme amount of athleticism has enabled her to get out of tight jams. At Cy Ridge, she kept the school competitive and helped them make a run at the playoffs. The All District player has decided to continue doing some damage at Blinn. 70 is definitely a possibility !!!!

Hoops And Heat Provide Thriller

BECKETT & CHAVEZ

One of the most electrifying game in the Alodia Prime Time Rising Stars Showcase had to be the one between the Cy Fair Heat and Houston Hoops Bobby.The Heats Laura Chavez and Hoops Ma'Kayla Beckett provided most of the firepower, something you can expect them to do for their respective schools, Morton Ranch and Beaumont Ozen, once they return for next season. Chavez has always been known for her three point shooting ability has added a little something more to her game. Beckett on an already loaded Ozen team showed she is definitely a player as well that can not only drain the three but score from a variety of ways on the court.
