Houston Reign Becoming Scary

Jameeka Gray

The more I see the Houston Reign play the more it appears they are about to turn the corners and become a team to be reckoned with. With four players, Maddisen Turner, Helen Van Beck, Dana Smith and Alexis Onigbanjo standing 6'0 or above and another, the very athletic Jameeka Gray at 5'10, that in itself is something to build on. Onigbanjo attends St Johns, the others Westside. The bigs are solid and learning from one of the best teachers they could possibly learn from, Reign's coach Alaina Turner who built Westside into a powerhouse. Her daughter Maddisen has so much energy and athleticism and the great part is she has no idea how good she can be. Van Beck and Smith have been shown steady improvement and are solid on the inside, the great news, well not for opponents, is these three are all from the 2015 class. They also have a nice group of guards lead by Casey Craft (St Agnes) and Kristin Milton (Second Baptist) both are heady and handle the ball well, not to mention the improvement Maia Chargois (St Agnes) has shown over the last few months. The good news for the Reign is the majority of their players are just finishing their freshmen season and I can only imagine what next season will bring
