CAROL WILLIE

As long as I can remember, and I can go way back, the Houston area has had over 20 area girls basketball players sign on the dotted line during the early signing period. The Chronicle was missing a few that I had, I imagine they'll be updating so here's there link and here's my somewhat official list. It's here!!!!

It's that time again when several young ladies will be signing on the dotted line and the official "AJ Alix" shirt leads the way. Please note that Girlz Prep Report is unmatched because I have a unique way of saying things as well as calling it before it happens. Texas has always been a hotbed for talent and although it took a lot of work, others have definitely noticed

Please utilize the Girlz Prep Report website because there is something there for everyone.

  • College coaches, know who the players arethat  you may not have heard about until it's too late through the GPR Scouting Service and note that I'm accessible at any time, uh when you subscribe

  • Parents, every player is not "The Real Deal" however there are several options out there and the CONSULTING tab can save you a lot of time, headache and probably money as many have found out that one or two years of college have been paid for with no return

  • EVENTS tab is there for everyone, if I have a tournament bracket, you have a tournament bracket and it's no need to make call after call or trust our local paper
Girlz Prep Report's blog is still free and filled with "USEFUL" information that can benefit you and most of the time layman's terms, subliminal messages are still hidden in certain spots

I believe in keeping it real so that makes GPR "The Real Deal" as well!

Seven Lakes looking for Dekaney rematch in FBISD Tournament

Komal Moudgil

The duo of Kristin Inman and Sydney Buchel have been two of the leading scorers on the team since they were freshmen at Seven Lakes, however in order for them to make a run, they will need some offense from other players and it appears several are stepping up to the plate. Never mind the fact that Spartans have dropped two of their first three games by double digits, that happened against two of the top three teams in the area, maybe state after this weekend.

One of those losses was against Dekaney and since they are on separate sides of the FBISD bracket, there is a chance they could meet in the finals.

Clear Springs wins Texas Invitational tune up

Kaylin Roher

"UTR" Kaylin Roher is just one of many weapons in the Clear Springs arsenal and they have already beat two preseason Top 10 teams by double digits, first Dekaney 59-43 and last night Seven Lakes, 60-50. Even more impressive is the fact that they won both games on the road and after Saturday, they could be the #1 team in the state however a few teams in the Texas Invitational might have something to say about it. I can only imagine how many college coaches will be here for their Friday morning showdown against Manvel in what's worthy of a gold final four, however in giving a plug to a reality show, this game will come down to "The Talls vs The Smalls" so don't be tardy for the party

Cougars outlast Bobcats

Sydney Thomas leads the charge

In a "Topsy Turvy" battle, Cinco Ranch held on to defeat Cy Fair 39-35 in a defensive battle. After Cinco opened up the game with a bucket, Cy Fair would take the lead on a three by Taylor McCowin, one of three she had for the game, and go an 11-0 run before freshman Cinco's Corin Evans shot at the buzzer made the score 11-4 after one. Then Cy Fair would be outscored 7-2 in the second quarter as neither teams shots wanted to fall however this set the stage for some big time plays down the stretch.

Amber Lane

Amber Lane and Angela Harris took charge of the Cy Fair offense in the second half, both getting to the basket almost at will. Sydney Thomas, who injured her elbow early in the game and was noticeably however she made some big shots and big plays, including a three that gave the Cougars some breathing room, 29-23 and then  a couple free throws to keep it a two possession game, 33-28 and the Cougars held on to win 39-35. Taylor Williams came up big on the defensive side with several blocks and put backs in the second half and Angie Moore was solid throughout the game for the Cougars as she finished with 10 points.
Corin Evans, Amy Kubinski, Taylor Williams

"Big Play Syd" finished with 12 points for the Cougars and for their offense to run, she has got to stay healthy  and out of foul trouble as she has the ability to spark the team in so many ways, something I noticed last season on several occasions. Cy Fair has a very athletic team and with only three seniors, I expect they will be in rare form by the time district starts

Sonique Middleton (Cy Fair) Angie Moore (Cinco Ranch)

Eagles Gray continues to impress

Ekiyah Gray (center)

At a shade above 6'0, Ekiya Gray is just one of those players that stayed relatively unknown unless you pay attention to what I write and I've been writing about the young lady since she dropped over 50 in a middle school game. Before you throw my favorite phrase against me or even challenge my evaluation skills, come prepared because there is no grey area on this side either. Being tall, coordinated and doing the things she could do told me she would be a player and what a player she has turned out to be.  This works for several reasons, college coaches saw her and wondered who she was and why they never heard of her which shows  some don't know a Picasso if it's right in front of them, nice touch since gray is also a color

Desiree Davis and Ebony Parker

This team turned around when Gray, Ebony Parker and Regina Scott all stepped into the starting lineup as freshmen and led then to the Eagles to their first ever playoff appearance. Last season, the team wasn't what I expected yet they regrouped and made a mini-run in the playoffs. After losing in the championship game to a ready for anything Cy Ranch team in the SBISD Tournament , KF has the talent to make a run.

Desiree Davis and Jelia Prestion are next level players as well as Gray, Parker and Scott and although Dekaney is the favorite to win district, a health Klein Forest team might just have a say. Gray dropped 37 in their two games on Saturday as she and Davis made the all tournament tea

Willie keeps Eagles flying high

Okay maybe I was wrong about Cy Falls and although I have a crystal ball, for it to work properly the stars, sun and moon have to be doing something, I through the directions away so base it on that. Seriously, I don't a crystal and or any slight of hand tricks to know that this team could be another to create problems. Jasmine Green has taken her game to another level and been one of Cy Falls leading scorers early this season and being complemented in the backcourt by Bree Fabritis and freshman with the right name, Dajia Craft because this is no cheese, I know how it's spelled, but crafty she is.

Add the return of Katie Najvar, one of three or four Eagles who were out with various injuries last season during their state championship run, which makes what they did  even more impressive. What's even more impressive than even more impressive, Carol Willie's 19 points and a double-double en route to an all tournament selection for the third place finisher in the SBISD Tournament has not only Cy Falls fans excirted but TCU fans as well, read more

Youth have Westside hopes high

Jasmine King

For the record, this seasons Westside Wolves team will go as far  as Briana Luton, Jasmine King and Jameeka Gray take them. They're all seniors, they know what to expect and they've been in the trenches so now that we've established that, let's move on. Westside has remained tough over the years and this season could be the one they defeat Bellaire for district, something that hasn't happened since my daughter graduated, but they've been close, awfully close

Tanea Thomas

Pound for pound, inch for inch, there has been no player tougher than King who has had more than her share of injuries yet she keeps coming back stronger and with her and Luton both dropping double figures early in the tournament, that set the stage for a strong finish as a different player wound up being their leading scorer in each game.

Maddisenn Turner, Sentreal Gregory and Tanea Thomas form a nucleus of young players that could conceivably do some damage in the future.

Turner, the athletic 6'1 player that can do multiple things, all good is going to create some problems as she can play multiple positions while the backcourt of Gregory and Thomas could be among the best in the city before it's said and done. Luton was named all tournament as the Wolves took 4th place

New look Klein could create problems

Meghan Temple has always been a fierce rebounder whose play sometimes may have seemed a little out of control. That theory was zapped by me and chalked up to the level of energy she always brings on the court and now she blossomed into a double-double waiting to happen every night as Temple not only helped lead Klein to a 5th place win in the SBISD Tournament, she made the all tournament team

Several young players are stepping up like Lauren Grigsby who along with Temple and Maya Malonson may create some problems in what is shaping up to be one of the toughest districts in the area
