Sydney Thomas leads the charge |
In a "Topsy Turvy" battle, Cinco Ranch held on to defeat Cy Fair 39-35 in a defensive battle. After Cinco opened up the game with a bucket, Cy Fair would take the lead on a three by Taylor McCowin, one of three she had for the game, and go an 11-0 run before freshman Cinco's Corin Evans shot at the buzzer made the score 11-4 after one. Then Cy Fair would be outscored 7-2 in the second quarter as neither teams shots wanted to fall however this set the stage for some big time plays down the stretch.
Amber Lane |
Amber Lane and Angela Harris took charge of the Cy Fair offense in the second half, both getting to the basket almost at will. Sydney Thomas, who injured her elbow early in the game and was noticeably however she made some big shots and big plays, including a three that gave the Cougars some breathing room, 29-23 and then a couple free throws to keep it a two possession game, 33-28 and the Cougars held on to win 39-35. Taylor Williams came up big on the defensive side with several blocks and put backs in the second half and Angie Moore was solid throughout the game for the Cougars as she finished with 10 points.
Corin Evans, Amy Kubinski, Taylor Williams |
"Big Play Syd" finished with 12 points for the Cougars and for their offense to run, she has got to stay healthy and out of foul trouble as she has the ability to spark the team in so many ways, something I noticed last season on several occasions. Cy Fair has a very athletic team and with only three seniors, I expect they will be in rare form by the time district starts
