Rice Edges SMU

 This was by far one of the best college games I've seen this season and the smallest player on the court came up big. 5'0 D'Franz Smart was honored for an assist mark prior to the game, see kids, height isn't a deterrent and she scored a season high 15 points

Kristin Hernandez starred at Duncanville HS, played with my daughter in a high school all star game and beat her in another when she knocked down a 45 footer at the buzzer. Today, she hit a 35 footer at the buzzer to extend SMU's lead at the half 32-28, one of her two threes. She was one of the original "big guards" that could score at will

Akil Simpson was a freshman at Duncanville and on the same team with Hernandez when we played them for the Sandra Meadows Championship. Always a very sweet young lady, today she dived into the press table for a loss ball and knocked it back on me and took the time to say excuse me

Kristin Askew starred at Mansfield Timberview and is still an energetic point guard that makes things happen. Her dad, Corey, and I go way back and he's the director of the powerhouse DFW Elite program

Samantha Mahnesmith (Kennedale) was one of the best long range shooters to ever play in Texas.

6'3  Heidi Brandenburg is from Garland and transferred from Missouri is one of the best outside shooters at that size I have seen

Mansfield's Alisha Filmore was on fire in the first half, scoring 10 of her 12 points which led SMU

Sophomore sensation Jessica Kuster led Rice with 16 points and like Filmore, 10 of those came in the first half

One future star I won't name do to excessive recruiting by area club coaches along with several other area players were in attendance, including three of the hottest prospects from the Class of 2013
