Freeman weighing options
Alexus Freeman is taking a break as she decides where her next stop will be after she graduates from Navasota. After a solid performance over the season, high school and club, she has several options that she's weighing and is close to deciding. I did a story on the 2013 point guard a few months ago after watching her play with Katy Rebels-Floyd and her talent and energy level spoke volumes, read more
Simpson's star shining as she commits
I often tell this story about a college coach watching my daughter for a couple of minutes and leaving, then calling a few days later offering a scholarship because they saw all they needed to see. I haven't narrowed it down that much but after taking a good look at Austin Elite star Miranda Simpson over the summer, I was sold, read more
Evidently I wasn't the only person sold as Simpson received numerous offers and decided Providence College was the best fit for her where she will be launching them from the Big East and we'll hear about them in Texas
DFW North duo looking for another state title
Mariah Williams |
I spoke highly of the heat that DFW Elite North Willie brought during the BigTyme Fall Finish and how they put together one of the summers best comeback victories primarily due to the heat from their back-court. Edmond Santa Fe teammates Mariah Williams (2014) and Cameerah Graves (2013) were among those bringing the heat and I'm talking about on both ends of the floor. These two young ladies will now focus on continuing the tradition at Santa Fe which has gone 59-1 over the past two seasons and graduated one of the top players from the 2012 class, Courtney Walker (Texas A&M). I'll be keeping an eye on these two young ladies as their stock continues to rise

Nneka Ogwumike named WNBA Rookie of the Year
Los Angeles Sparks forward was named WNBA Rookie of the Year today comes at no surprise. The most dominant high school player from Houston won a state championship at Cy Fair and helped lead Stanford to four consecutive Final Fours. Her sister, Chiney Ogwumike, the most complete high school player from Houston, has a chance to do same thing , Rookie of the Year, in a couple of years when she graduates from Stanford. Many sisters from the area have gone on to play at the next level but I believe the Ogwumike's will be the first family with four D1 players. Olivia (2014) and Erica (2015) are at Cy Woods and are among the top players in their classes.

2015 Thompson looking to help lead Jersey Village back to playoffs
Brynae Thompson caught my eye while still in middle school and over the past two summers she is steadily increasing her next level status capping an impressive 2012 season which saw her not only make 1st Team All District as a freshman at Jersey Village but closing out the summer with 14 threes, yes FOURTEEN, on opening day at Austin Elite's Texas Summer Showcase
This season Thompson hopes to get Jersey Village back to were it was consistently during the days of Nina Norman, Co Co Reed, Tracy Ray and the Isom sisters, Tasha and Brittanay, in fact their younger sister, Christina Roberts, is a 2016 at JV and has shown some promise

McCowin coming into her own
The first time I saw Taylor McCowin was a a couple of years ago and someone mentioned she had only become interested in the game a short time earlier. Her energy level was very high and although everything didn't always go the right way that initial time I saw her, she never made the same mistake twice and when you have the ability to learn from your mistakes in the beginning, that will take you a long way
As a freshman at Cy Fair, she was forced to learn even quicker as she not only made varsity but was one of the leading scorers on a team that was rebuilding and when I saw her at the Texas Invitational, I could see the improvement from when I first saw her. The next time I saw her was in the summer, more improvement and even more during the BigTyme Fall Finish as she continues to show progression
Expect to hear her name a lot more as she steps under the spotlight for the Bobcats this season, Cy Fair lost five seniors including a third of their scoring from Alexis Chandler (George Washington) however the team will be in capable hands with McCowin and a host of other young players
