Matlock ready to solve more cases at BigTyme Fall Finish

There's an old saying that hold true sometimes "a picture is worth a thousand words" and since I have thousands of pictures, like my man Corey said about me having stories stacked, I can keep them coming without even watching another game for a very long time, I'm not switching from the theme of 2014 players just yet, so let's throw Charisma Matlock in the hunt as she get's ready for her junior season at Skyline

Matlock caught my eye at the Tyrone Johnson Classic back in June, above with Jasmine Glee, Christina Propes and my friend of many moons Coach Irving Butler. She continued to impress at the Big State Flava Jam and at 5'10, I think her versatility will take her a very long way.

Matlock will be at the Big Tyme Fall Finish along with teammate Stabresa McDaniel (DFW T-Jack) along with several other outstanding players as I get a look at another solid team from R2, coming off of a 28-5 record last season

Remember Girlz Prep Report is the official media partner for the Fall Finish and like I always love to say, no one does it like I do.

Labor Day Special on what it's about

So many times you can get caught up in the nonsense of this whole thing, especially the politics about how things really work. I dropped my daughter off at the airport yesterday so she could head back overseas and ironically I received a call from a parent.

His daughter is one of the top players coming up, in fact she probably could play for some colleges now. He informed me that a former club coach was trying to recruit his daughter and my daughters name popped up. The guy told the parent had she played for him, she would have been a MDAA, even though at the time he never had one and never did have one under 6'0

I laughed and said, well she was the best player in the state when she came out, she dominated the top point guard in the class and she dropped 40 on Maya Moore's club team just to name a few things, so even though she made the final 30 in the MDAA votes, she should have been on the team however my comments about some of the guys in power back in the day probably had a lot to do with her not.

Back then or even now, I keep it real not to mention we beat that same club coaches team with double digit D1 players numerous times so that comment was and still is kind of interesting, especially since her last club game was six years ago. The parent said he told the guy "didn't she play in the WNBA"

Politics is the reason I started doing this, there are so many talented players out there and if you can play, you can play, that's my philosophy. I got tired of complaining about what the local paper wasn't doing or them doing it wrong so in order to make a change, sometimes you have to just do it yourself

2014 Wheatley trio ready to pick up void

Meashell Crosby, Laura Fair, Ariel Taylor

The Wheatley Wildcats are coming off of a very successful season however when you lose over half of your offense due to graduation and that coming from one player, one might wonder. One might wonder but not me and even though losing Diamonisha Sophus along with almost 35 ppg, the Wildcats have some players who can fill it up. Meashell Crosby and Ariel Taylor caught my eye while they were still in middle school as being poised, energetic and with mad skills even back then. Expect those two, along with one of the top players from the areas 2016 class, Erika Sidney, to continue to put up numbers the way the Wildcats have done it for year. Also a much improved and conditioned 6'2 Laura Fair will help them inside the paint and with the departure of Manvel to 5A, the rode to the area F4 in 4A should be interesting

DFW Talent Pool Never Dry

Taylor Booze

I remember the first time I saw DFW Elite play, they had an outstanding squad loaded with next level players including Takia Starks who became Texas A&M's all time leading scorer and Jillian Samuels, one of the top three point shooters in the country in high school who kept putting up numbers on the court at SMU where she's now putting them up off the court as she's with the staff

That was their top squad however when we played their younger team, it was equally loaded with players who went on to play at the next level and prior to that game I remember one young lady doing some drills worth of her own "And 1" tape, Taylor Booze. That game went three overtimes and both teams combined for probably close to forty threes and out of the 50-60 colleges that were there when it started, I believe just about everyone stayed until the game was over well past midnight.

That was over eight years ago and even though Marques Jackson is no longer with us, the tradition has remained the same as the program continues to produce next level players galore. Their 2016 squad was very impressive during the Big Stae Flava with several players standing out including Gabby Gregory, Jordan Stover and Alexis Baston all about to enter high school, along with a 2017 young lady I featured on a Fullcourt.com tip sheet, Bria Powell from the 2017 class

These are just a few, I'll be keeping tabs on that team in the not so distant future as everyone showed a tremendous amount of potential

Thomas taking over helm at Cinco

Cinco Ranch always manages to stay in the hunt for a district run. Year after year, not matter who they lose, it seems other players are ready to step up and continue the Cougar tradition. 2014 Sydney Thomas is coming off of a very productive club season as she's the heir apparent to running the point for the Cougars, in fact if you use that ever so friendly search bar at the top of the blog, you would see she was a catalyst in several victories last season including their upset win over Katy Taylor.

Ogwumike duo ready to do damage at Cy Woods

Olivia Ogwumike

In keeping with the Labor Day weekend theme of 2014 players, what better family who put in the labor over the years can I name other than the Ogwumike's and Olivia is ready to team up with baby sister, who is anything but a baby, 2015 Erica to try and keep Cy Woods in the hunt of what should b a very wide open district race. Cy Falls and Cy Woods lost so many next level players last season that both teams will be a lot different however with Olivia on the defensive end and Erica on the offense, well we'll, and that menas me, will keep our eyes open

Erica Ogwumike

Nash ready to step up to the plate

The theme of this Labor Day Weekend will be GPR's focus on the the 2014 class, well it actually started last week but Texas is loaded, well the nation is loaded when you really think about it however right now, the Houston area has several players from that class who played in the shadows of 2012 superstars, Jasmine Nash being one of them at Klein Collins. Veja Hamilton (TCU) was the go to girl during her KC career which led to a lot of Sunshine for the team while she was there, either you get or you don't. Unlike the band, this team still could create problems this season as they will now be lead by Dominique "Double D" Dillingham, who has already committed to Mississippi State but Nash will be the missing link

Earlier today, I spoke about Jonee Jones doing things that don't always appear in the box score, add Nash to that list. As you can see in the picture above, Nash just about always had to cover one of their opponents top scorers and even though she is a capable scorer, she didn't have to that for Klein Collins. This season will be different, a new look, a new era but again, they still could create problems

Jones ready to parlay successful summer

2014 Jonee Jones wasn't the first option for DFW 2013 while she was on the floor, nor the second , third or even fourth times. You have to remember that the team had Jewel Angelo, Micarah Malone and Mackenzie May, all capable scorers from the 2013 class. Angelo and Malone led St Pius to one of the private school state Final Fours while May helped do the same thing with Barbers Hill in 4A and they put together an admirable showing at the Big State Flava Jam

Nevertheless she chose her moments carefully and did some of the things that don't always  show up in the box score a lot of folks worry about however those little things helped her team become successful, which is probably what she'll have to do on her already loaded Manvel squad .

Maybe I should have called them super loaded because they were loaded before the addition of a couple of new players, Angelo being one of them along with Rangie Bessard, not to mention two of the top players from the 2014 and 2015 classes, Brianna Turner and Jordan Hosey.

Jones caught my eye while she was still in middle school and although her name may not pop up in the box score a lot this year, she'll play an integral part on the team many consider, including me, to be the team to beat in R3

The Chosen One helps lead chosen group

As a nine year old, I was amazed at the poise Brooke McCarty showed on the floor at such a young age and after watching her a few times, it was inevitable that she would be a force in not only Houston and Texas, but the country before it was all said and done. She may not be able to leap tall buildings with a single bound however what she has shown to those who play catch-up on evaluating talent is that she was definitely given the correct name, "The Chosen One". I've thrown eight names on the front page of players who can go from the 2014 class but it doesn't stop there, trust me, read more

In the area, the big question will now be can 2014 top 2012's group of close to 90 players who have gone on to the next level

Guess who's coming to BigTyme Fall Finish

Also Clear Creek will be there with their offensive machine, Brentney Branch an SFA commit who I've watched since she was before 10 nail jumpers from everywhere, along with a much improved Amber Harris.

Another added bonus, the defending state champion from Oklahoma, Millwood High, will be bringing their high octane squad to the BigTyme Fall Finish September 29-20
