23-5A Kempner vs Bush

FCP Top 100 player Ashley Ezeh was a beast scoring the majority of the
points for Bush last night and leading her team to a narrow victory

Kempner has two of the top freshmen in the city, Alex Lapeyrolerie and Kiana Ingram, who form a dynamic duo that will only get better. Watching these two improve over the past 3 years has been pleasant. Alex was on fire last night scoring 23 points, including, at least by my count, 5 deep ones from BTA. Kempner fought hard and was within reach but too much Ezeh

ACL Injury

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

AFTER ACL

When I was growing up, a knee injury meant the kiss of death for an athlete. With the medical advancement of today, athletes are now coming back as good or better than before. Candace Parker tore her's not once, but twice, and came back to lead Tennessee to back to back National Championships.

My daughter tore her ACL on June 19th and was starting 128 days later and her team , Texas A&M,finished the season by making the NCAA Sweet 16 and were ranked in the final Top 10 of both polls.

Two of our club kids, Jasmine and Kierra, tore their ACL's last June, ironically at the A&M Camp. Even more ironic, these two play for the same high school, Klein Forest. The good new and even even more ironic, both kids came back the same game and are currently contributing on a team that has vastly improved in one of the toughest districts in the city.

20-5A Westside vs Chavez

SIERRA SOLIZ

By beating Chavez, Westside stayed one game behind Bellaire and hopes to catch them the next time around. Chavez is led by Sierra Soliz who is one of the top scorers in the city, she was a Chronicle Player of the Week after dropping 40 earlier this season. Westside has another one of those super sophs I've been talking about in Tiffany Davis, pictured next to Soliz in above right photo.

20-5A Lamar vs Madison

Wednesday night, Lamar had a chance to make this a three way tie for first place in district however back to back losses have them in fourth place or the last playoff spot. Lamar was led by Burton (20) while the big kid Caldwell #33, dropped 19 for the Marlins who are now in third place.

21-4A Reagan vs Sharpstown

Reagan stays in a tie with Westbury for second place at 5-2 in district hanging on to beat 2-5 Sharpstown 42-39. Reagan was led by Coleman (13) and Scott (11). Sharpstown was led by Ashley Blueitt (10)

21-4A Waltrip vs Yates

Like their boy's team, undefeated Yates girls are hoping to make a trip to Austin. The addition of Mariah Lee, shooting free throw, gives them instant offense on the inside.

Stars of Tomorrow

Going back to the basics day found me starting off at the YMCA cause it's FUN to play at the YMCA. Seeing these co-ed teams broght back old memories and watching very athletic seven year old girls hanging with the boys was cool.

13-5A Tomball vs Dekaney

District 13-5A has had some of the most exciting games this season and this game was what teams fighting for the top spot in district is supposed to to look like. It had everything, great coaching, great team play, exciting individuual efforts, horrible calls and the fans from both sides were in it from the jump, I felt like moving to the other side and sit on the floor.

It was Dekaney early, in fact they looked like they wanted to put this one away in the first half with an all around effort to take a double digit lead, but Tomball kept fighting.

Led by their "BIG FOUR", Mc Stravick (12), Brown(11), Frank(14) and Diaz (31) Tomball took the lead early in the fourth quarter on a McStravick three.

Taylor(12), Nevitt(14) and Ali(8) all hit some big shots in this double overtime thriller

The star of the game was Durley who dropped 32 on an array of three pointers and acrobatic lay-ups. She has taken her game to another level and is moving in up the top 2012 player in the city ladder, what a year for Houston players . Diaz (2012) was superb as well, carrying Tomball after Frank fouls out, on many "how did she do that" moves, but it was a great game and that for me was refreshing because this season has been, well different.

20-5A Bellaire vs Lamar

Lamar was calm and collective before the game, not wanting to beat themselves as they let Westside slip away.

Bellaire came out with fire in their eyes off the top, not wanting to fall behind early like they did against Westside.

A three way tie for first place just wasn't meant to be and Absher's photo says it all.

Bellaire was led by it's "BIG THREE" Burns (26), Alix(16) and Winslow(11) Lamar was led by Burton(11)

20-5A Milby vs Sam Houston

It's always great to see kids playing just for the fun of it. Neither of these teams will make the playoffs, in fact I don't recall either ever making the playoffs. Sometimes folks get hung up on winning and miss the lessons learned by competing. My hat goes off to many of the teams in HISD.
Felicia Boswell could be a difference maker on sevral of the top teams in HISD. She's averaging close to 20 points per game and scored 35 of Sam Houston's 51 points against Milby.
