Darianne Williams has always been on a team where she was a role player, be it high school or club ball but this season, she showed what I've always said and that she's not only talented but she knows she can be "the girl." Last night, it was a battle between the Lady Cougars as both Cy Creek and Nimitz have the same mascot and in the early going it was Williams and Nimitz star Alacharion King putting their teams on their backs as both players were near double digits in the first quarter which Creek led 12-8
After that, it was all Creek the next two quarters as Williams just scored on an array of baskets, be it long range, midrange, grabbing steals going coast to coast or backdoor cuts for lay-ups, she found a way to do a very important thing, put the ball in the basket. Jessica Munoz got into the act putting together a double-double finishing with 12 and 12 and Nimitz just couldn't regroup as everything just seemed to go Creek's way
This is how crazy the game went, with time running out in the half, Williams was trapped by a swarm of Nimitz defenders however she amazingly found Brianna Deakins who banked a three in at the buzzer giving them a 29-15 lead and that shot seemed to do it as Nimitz was outscored by 15 in the third quarter. Williams was captured by #AutoAwesome and she simply was just that scoring 25 points. Deakins added 11 and Caitlin Stephenson was the the fourth Creek player in double digits with 10. King was high scorer for Nimitz with 13
