Yesterday was my fourth college game in eight days and I've had a chance to witness some excitement and heroics to go along with some pretty darn good basketball. Jessica Kuster excited me as a freshman and based on what she's done at Rice during her career, the heroics just seem to keep happening as she helped lead the Owls to a 74-68 win over Marshall in overtime. Kuster scored 28 points, moving her into second place on the Owls all time scoring list after just becoming their all time rebounder on Tuesday
Kuster needs only 52 points to become the all time leading scorer, Rice next two games will be on the road before coming back home on the 29th against Tulane and then again on March 1st against Southern Mississippi so it's only a matter of time before the young lady, who also added 17 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season gets the scoring record as well
Several players played a part in the Owls victory, freshman Maya Hawkins made her third consecutive start since coming back a couple of weeks ago, Hawkins had been hampered by an early season injury and everyone I've told about what to expect from this young lady saw a glimpse of the future as the former Mansfield Summit star scored 20 on, get this, 6-13 from bta. I started calling her "The Hawk" after I saw her play defense a long time ago, she's flying high right now
Speaking of flying high, former College Park star Megan Shafer came in during the stretch and created some problems as she simply was around that ball grabbing some huge offensive rebounds and scoring some points in the process. Leah Scott put in some admirable work for Marshall, she was one of three players in double digits

This was a very, very good game, several area high stars were on hand, if you follow me on Twitter you'd know that, well that is if I know they're there, not quite 20/20 from afar but I saw this game up close and very clear, I'm still replaying it
