Najala Howell is all smiles because she knows even though they may have lost two games on opening day at the Texas Invitational at the buzzer, she knows that they did on a neutral court against two of R3's top squads. A block at the buzzer by Cy Woods Erica Ogwumike gave them their first loss while an alley-oop to Pearlands Keara Hudnall closed out the day with a bang. Desoto brought plenty of energy, several of her teammates were impressive but I'll touch on that later

The Mavericks open today up with Mansfield Summit at 10:30, North Shore tangles with Duncanville at NOON, Clear Springs against Bellaire at 1:30 and Pearland closes the day out at 3:00. All winners advance to gold semi's tomorrow, all losers silver, that worked out to perfection
