Eagles fly by Wildcats

Dawson defeated Wheatley 43-36 in a game that could have gone either way. It started off slow, the Wildcats led 9-6 after one and much of their early scoring cam from 6'2 junior Laura Fair who had six points to go along with her three blocks and rebounds each

A Cortnei Purnell three gave Dawson their first lead of the game early in the second, Wheatley didn't score until almost halfway into the quarter when an Ariel Taylor jumper tied the game but Cree Hammond went to work hitting a 15 footer and before you know it Dawson was up by five. The first half was filled with fouls and turnovers and i strange as this may sound, some pretty good defense from both teams and back to back baskets from Meashell Crosby and Eryka Sidney made it 16 all at the half

Dawson's Corlissa Charles was the star of the game scoring 18 points as she just happened to be almost everywhere while Cortnei Purnell continued her "double-double waiting to happen" as I call it and it keeps happening. The game was tied at 33 in the final quarter when Taylor went down for the Wildcats at 4:50 and that appeared to take some of the fire from Wheatley as they wold only score three the rest of the way.

The Wildcats season is over, that's the bad news. The good news is that the core group will be back for one another run. Dawson moves on and will face the winner of tonight's Lamar Consolidated vs Foster match-up
