The Texas Hustle brought two teams down to the Houston Insiders Basketball Classic, both teams were made up with the majority of their players from around Mesquite, and they added fuel to the fire in my saying that Texas is a big state loaded with next level talent. The younger team showed several players with plenty of upside as they brought an endless amount of energy on both end of the court while the older squad survived a bump early to go out and win the WNBA Consolation Championship. Led by Regina Garrett (West Mesquite)and Dawn Nwoko, Hillary Davis and Lauren Bradshaw, all from Mesquite Horn, these young ladies clawed their way to a stunning victory over a very good Alodia team in the championship game which proved one to be one of the toughest and entertaining games in the tournament. Texas Hustle is coached by WNBA Champion, NCAA Champion and Olympic Alternate, Fran Harris. Fran was leading scorer and captain of the first undefeated NCAA Championship team, University of Texas at Austin. She also played for the first WNBA Championship team, Houston Comets. Fran has done a lot for women's basketball and she keeps giving back through her organization, Texas Hustle based out of her hometown of Dallas where she also helped South Oak Cliff High School win a State Championship.
