Even though it was pouring down outside, inside it was raining as well, with talent that is. Whatever your preference in basketball is, you could have caught a glimpse of here. I had a chance to witness several impressive team and individual performances and I'll split em up as we go.
If you caught the Manvel vs Hightower game, you might have possibly watched a preview of two teams that definitely have a chance to make it to Austin in March. Manvel played without Jade Castille, a young lady that whose back the team rode to the 4A Region 3 Final 4 last season. The good news is Castille will be back, topping it off with better news in the additions of Brianna Turner and Jordan Hosey, two of the top players in the country for the classes of 2014 and 2015. More on them later!
Hightower was supposed to be done when they lost Jasmine Brewer and Azaela Hall after making it to state season before last, well they made to the Elite 8 last season. Before folks start turning on the oven since Raven Lane and Brittney Matthews have moved on to the next level, think again. The Canes front court is probably the best threesome over 6'0 I've seen in the area. Jasmine Prophet, the move in last season has provided offense from all over the court along with steady rebounding.Tyler Gilbert has always been regarded as one of the top big's in the area, she simply has the mindset to dominate the paint. Her twin sister Taylor wasn't always considered one of the top players as she was a little raw here and there but she's a perfect example of what putting in the work can do showing she's not just the other twin. Don't worry about the guard play because energizer bunny Alaina Heard will keep applying the pressure on both ends. This young lady only knows how to play one way, hard! I also found out Manvel will be playing in the Fort Bend Tournament so you may get a chance to see these teams go head to head once again before the playoffs.
