I might be smiling, but honestly I am a bit confused with all of the upsets happening so early in the season.I guess I shouldn't be because here are my exact words at the end of my breakdown of the teams for the upcoming season. "Sometimes the best team doesn’t always win, that’s just how it is. Injuries, grades, and bench play will all matter before it’s said and done and with the Houston area being so evenly matched, right now it’s a toss-up"
Here are the Chronicle's Preseason Rankings, actually they did a pretty good job
Cy Falls and Atascocita are the lone unbeaten teams that were ranked in the Top 10. The other eight teams have all lost more than once, with the exception of North Shore and Elsik.
Katy Taylor won the Ft Bend Tournament Championship by knocking off Elsik 54-47. Like Hightower, Elsik hadn't lost a game this season, having defeated three of the top teams in the area, Bellaire and Woodlands, along with Seven Lakes earlier in the day 58-39.
Cy Falls wins the Gold at the Texas Invitational, beating Klein Collins for the second time this season by double digits
Atascocita will have it's first real challenge on Tuesday against one of my sleeper teams, Clear Springs who is also undefeated.
Seven Lakes was also one of my sleepers and even though Elsik laid the hammer down on them, those kids grew up a lot by coming back to beat Hightower.
With Taylor winning the FBISD Tournament and Seven Lakes finishing third, does the performance by Cinco Ranch against North Shore combined with their one point loss to Bellaire in the Bronze Championship mean District 19 is on the verge of becoming the toughest in the area since Memorial was added?
